FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

Normally the drafts lately have become more and more predictable and boring. But is anyone else getting the vibe that this draft could throw in a few surprises given the evenness of it? Hoping we have a few sliders for our picks due to other teams positional needs etc.
Everything changes if teams light on KPP take them early

That said, I do like some of the KPD that may be there in the early second round

If Reid and Berry were both available at the Powers pick there is no way they'd go Reid over Berry. Not only are they high on Berry but the go home factor likely scares off Freo and GWS.
Question for you, are there any KPP you’d take at our second pick if they were potentially available?

I’ve been really enjoying watching Matt Whitlocks games for Country

But also like Dennis around our third

I have heard we have put significant work into Barrat although he isn't exactly a genuine key position but I do like him. In terms of genuine talls Mraz and O'Farrell are the two that stand out for me and could've gone alot earlier if not for injury although with the type of injuries they had it's no suprise they've slid.

Another third tall I heard us linked to today was Ned Bowman. Not one I've seen spoken about on here and not one that has been high on my radar but he does have an impressive highlight real and capability to play half back, wing or forward.

All of the above apart from maybe a slight reach for Barrat are all going to be there for our last 2/3 picks.

Yeah I like Bowmann but more super late or rookie selection because he has exciting moments but not often enough and he might need a bit more time than higher selections

I do like Mraz to, moves very nicely
If we were in the market for a KPF I’d have loved to have looked at Sims

Both seem like they cover a lot of ground given how big they are

I’ve actually been thinking about starting a YouTube channel of my own but focusing on the Western Jets & Werribee VFL team, since that’s my area

The Jets have given us some really good players over the years
If you have time on your hands, go for it. Will be a good way to pass the time, and get out of the house a bit. Plus too many try and bite off too much covering everything and everywhere. Always good to have more in depth focused people, on specific teams.

I think it'd be great to have someone with a niche like you suggested, rather than another generic "here are my random thoughts on draftees regurgitated from the opinions of journalists and draft watchers I've read online".

If you did start something up with that focus on Western Jets / Werribee, I'd definitely subscribe mate

Grego is related to Zak Butters
Hm, interesting ..(second cousins lol)
Did Zak pass on the poster of Bont to Grego? Or has he still got it on his bedroom wall?

I've probably said it once but I'll say it again. Kayle Gerreyn. He has some really serious talent.

I wonder if he can take that aggressive game and find a place in the backline because I definitely don’t know how he can rest up forward in our current forward line situation or any ruck we recruit for that matter

Zac Merret comes to mind.
Tim Kelly. Touk Miller. All pretty handy. None lightning quick but certainly not slow and cut their teeth in the middle of the action in the modern game without being contested dominant players.
Tim Kelly was playing against men in the WAFL.

Touk Miller at age 16 was considered a possible no 1 pick. He captained VM & Calder cannons as an inside midfielder, very different to Reid. From his draft profile:

An inside midfielder who loves the physical stuff, he racks up clearances and contested possessions like nobodys business. His focal point is at stoppages where he crashes in and gets the ball out to someone on the outside. He’s actually quite aggressive when it comes to getting the footy and tackling, a quality he embodies when leading as he did as captain of Vic Metro at this years national championships.

PS: Miller's a gem who donated his AA blazer to his junior club, Maribyrnong Park (the same club as Jordan Croft and quite a few others)

Merrett's speed was his POD in his draft year - plus he's from that incredible football factory (Cobden). Always had 'power'

I'm all for drafting Reid if he slips to us, but history (and studies, not my opinion) suggest that a CP floor is generally required for players to make a centre square transition. FWIW the analysis started after Cale Morton barely fired a shot from Melbourne (pick 4) and draft watchers put together CP stats from previous drafts.

I would be shocked if we picked Gross , just doesn’t fit any need that I can detect.
Just fail to see any elite traits.

Surely Oliver or Clarke before him for us ?
I'm the other way on Gross.

To me he would be a competent candidate for half forward role year 1 and could transition to the midfield pretty quickly.

I think his all round game is solid. Aerobic capacity looks good, sound overhead, quick enough, gets involved on the scoreboard and has a bit of grunt about him. Admittedly the disposal isn't always top notch

Agree there'll be better options with our first pick, but if he's still there at 29, I can see him slotting into our list nicely.

What happened to the Camporeale twins? They’ve clearly fallen in the pecking order because I swear they were both top 15 at one point.
Twomey might have had them in his early form guide but that’s more players to watch out for and not a strong take on this years crop

SA seem to really suck at promoting their best talent though, they should be producing just as much top end talent as WA

I'd be pretty happy if we drafted Hannaford with our 1st pick. His highlights indicate he could play any of midfield, wing or half forward. Has pace, incredible tackling ability and abundant energy. Couldn't go much wrong with this kid.

It seems most mids just haven't kicked on as much as expected, which is why there are talls/flankers rising up the boards late. It makes our selection interesting as we traditionally look at guys who improve during their draft year. For that reason I don't think Moraes is in the frame for us.
