FYI

Will add a 2024 NAB Draft & Trade tracker thread, stickied.

Tag me when we have a confirmed trade/draft and I will update the thread accordingly

My concern with Reid is that we just moved on MacRae and Daniel because they didn't have the transition speed to play outside roles and could be liabilities defensively.
I wouldn't want to replace them with someone who has similar deficiencies, especially when our team can struggle with the defensive side of the game

This is why I think he’s not an ideal fit for us. We don’t already have the elite pressure forwards to offset a defensively weak small at half forward. Caleb Daniel could have done the role that people think Murphy will do to a tee this year, if it’s what the coaches wanted, but they didn’t. Daniel ran a faster 20m sprint at his combine than Reid did this year. But maybe he adds size eventually and ends up as a Steele Sidebottom and we find the quality pressure forwards elsewhere.

RE Cal Twomey's phantom draft (Hynes to us at 20), I would rather trade back a few slots, get an extra asset and then grab a Hynes, Hannaford, Oliver etc than just settle for him there if nobody drops.

I think teams will be very keen to trade up to our 1st and grab one of those talls, would be a little disappointed not to get creative if a Reid, Berry, Hotton etc didn't fall.

Twomey says Hynes with our first and Moraes with our next

Would not be particularly happy with those two as our first two picks. I posted earlier about being leery of big bodied midfielders in the under 18s as usually their big point of difference is size.

edit: Twomey has good mail for the first two rounds so might as well accept that we're not going to be happy with our picks.

I have called our first round pick the last 2 years with no inside knowledge, just dumb luck.

One was a bust (Clarke) and the other (Sanders) should be a good thing, I hope.

I’m calling Murphy Reid this year, but I suspect he will be gone by the time we have our pick.

As I write this, it has occurred to me that maybe Clarke was a second round pick.

Early second, yeah. Buss was our first.

Hynes is like Josh Dunkley version II to me with a bit more of a burst in speed

Moraes has some creative ability to go with his inside ball winning

Neither really help us sort out our need for more run off of half back or through the midfield

I think they both compliment one another quite well but they’re two very safe and boring selections

Can see Hynes playing games very early on, regardless of who drafts him

Hynes is the answer to the question what if Charlie Clarke was two inches taller and a bit slower?

Wouldn’t be stoked going Busslinger, Sanders, Hynes with our firsts in three consecutive drafts. Can’t be banking on finding athletic/quick players late in the draft every year.
