Okay so… this is what I sent to the club on attempt number three. And I tried super hard to stay civilised:

Dear Kate and Gary

I emailed you twice in the last year. I was sorry to have had no response. I emailed you personally, since our MFC club says that members and fans may do this in the interests of transparency. I followed up with another email several weeks later requesting some response and have heard nothing.

I was not rude to you. I simply explained why being a long-time member, donor and sponsor of our players is hard going currently. I didn’t expect a personal email from you as I know you are likely very busy, but I did anticipate some kind of polite, holding response from a staff member along the lines of “we appreciate feedback from…”. I have many friends who are supporters of other clubs who have contacted their club with their views, and they were shocked that I have heard nothing. I was not abusive to you or anyone. This time I will also send the email not just to you but also to the Chief Executive Officer in the hope that someone at the Melbourne Football Club cares enough about its paying members to at least acknowledge me as a supporter and member of this club. Or even as a human being. I reply to emails when I get them. I’m busy too.

So here we are. We managed to draft one of the most exciting talents of the league in three decades. He wants to leave. In the media today were rumours that one of the other most joyful and exciting players I have seen at Melbourne (or anywhere else) wants to leave. The rumours about the second remain rumours, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised. I hope that you are able to find the time to tell Petracca and Pickett that I will miss them very much in Red and Blue, but will watch their careers anywhere because these players are why I enjoy Australian Football. I want to see talented players fly - not be weighed down with the ball and chain that is our club is in 2024. Or 2023. Or even 2022 - we all saw it coming.

That said, I am a paying member and given all the ugly things that have come out, I would like to know when we are having a proper and independent review of all parts of the club? All parts - including leadership, administration and direction? The line that “we are always in review” is not good enough. Where has that got us today exactly?

Please understand that I am not after flags, though it was amazing and lovely when it happened, even to us fans in lockdown in Victoria. If I was to fixate on flags, I wouldn’t have emptied my pockets on membership, donations and player sponsorship on MFC. But I love my club and live for those times when I can get excited about our development and leave a game, head held high, because win or lose we were exciting to watch. For some years this hasn’t been the case. We were wonderful fun in 2021. We aren’t now. And it’s not about the players.

I am concerned that you yourselves may measure your success on the increase in member numbers. Don’t. They will decline. The players who are leaving are what got us new members, not the board, not the administration. I’m also concerned that in speaking for the club, it is entirely left to Max Gawn. It feels as though he has plenty on his plate. Could we not hear from the President for example? Could we even have a tiny update on progress to have a proper home from anyone at all?

No doubt you aren’t reading this, as you haven’t read my last two emails, but if you are then I hope you understand that the “club” is the members. Otherwise it doesn’t exist. So while you are super important people, I should be pretty important to you. And I would like you to treat members with more respect than has been the case under your tenure.

Petracca will no doubt be traded. I wish I could be traded too.

I hope you respond this time.

Yours sincerely

… PG

Dear valued member, thank you for taking an interest in the MFC. Enclosed is a personally autographed photo of Max Gawn to add to your collection. In regards to your specific comments about the club, our research indicates that one person cannot make a difference, no matter how big a screwball she is, so let me close by saying F you and the horse you rode in on

I wish they had sent me this email!

Would genuinely reinvigorate my interest in the club

Regardless of all that, I agree, a KPF isnt going to fix anything, get rid of the coach then we can talk. Building a team in Simple Simon's vision in lunacy.

Thank god no one wants to come here now, enough of wasting money on Goody ball.

Mark Robinson: Former Melbourne president Joe Gutnick backs calls for a full-scale review of embattled Demons

With focus on the Dees at an all-time high for the wrong reasons, a former president has backed calls for a full-scale independent review of the club in the wake of the Christian Petracca stand-off.

Former Melbourne president “Diamond” Joe Gutnick has supported calls for a full-scaled review of the embattled football club.

Distressed by the Christian Petracca stand-off, and other recent controversies, Gutnick said he was disillusioned having to watch the club “fall apart and disintegrate” in recent weeks.

Gutnick’s concerns comes as the Herald Sun can reveal Petracca’s partner Isabella Beischer – formerly a lawyer at the Hall & Wilcox legal firm, is now the business manager of Trac 5 Pty Ltd.

She is the key driver of “Brand Petracca”, which reportedly is one of reasons influencing Petracca’s desire to pursue a trade to a big Melbourne club.

She became Petracca’s business manager in April this year, two months prior to Petracca being severely injured in the King’s Birthday clash with Collingwood.

Gutnick said he would be moved to support a potential challenge to the Demons’ board, but would not be part of any ticket.

“I’m not interested in becoming president again – I’m a supporter, a member, and I’m concerned the whole club is falling apart and disintegrating in front of the AFL world,“ he said.

“Something is wrong and it’s incumbent on the board to make an independent review.

“Whether it’s the coach’s fault, whether it’s the board’s fault, or the football department … is there is not enough unity at the club? All these questions are being asked.

“Most importantly, there’s no one in the Melbourne Football Club who doesn’t like Petracca – he’s been a super player and a super representative of the football club, so why is he so adamant about leaving? It’s perplexing. There’s something wrong somewhere and we have to get to the bottom of it.”

Melbourne board challenger Peter Lawrence this week joined former great David Schwarz in calling for a full-scale independent review of the club’s operations.

Demons’ president Kate Roffey on Thursday rejected such a move.

“No, I don’t think so,” Roffey told SEN. “We’re always looking at reviewing, we’ve been constantly working on all sorts of things throughout the year. That’s never a stagnant process.”

Gutnick said: “She is wrong. I think (a review) is needed. Why won’t she have one? People are disillusioned.”

Asked if he had faith in Roffey, Gutnick said: “I can’t really comment, I don’t want to be critical of any individual, the coach or the president. I don’t know what the real issues are, and I don’t think too many do know, and that’s why we need an independent inquiry. We need to get to the bottom of it for the sake of the supporters, the sake of the players, and the sake of the future of the club.

“Maybe that can save the rift with Petracca, that would be the best outcome for everybody.”

Gutnick, who was Demons’ president from 1996-2001, said he had this week written an email to Roffey, chief executive Gary Pert, board members, coach Simon Goodwin and captain Max Gawn expressing concerns – and had not received back a single response.

“Being an ex-president, I thought I would have got something,’’ he said.

Gutnick said he did not have details about former president Glen Bartlett’s legal battle with the club.

“But to dismiss a president in the middle of the year, and he has all these gripes, and they haven’t been able to resolve it, and all these issues with (Joel) Smith and drugs, and this and that … it’s just not right,’’ he said.

“We were in such a good position in 2021 and it’s gone downhill. There’s this disunity, disillusionment with supporters, something is wrong.’’
You know your club is in a world of pain when Joe Gutnick is the voice of reason.

I’m almost impressed at the entirely off-topic sideswipe about brand Petracca.

You can totally tell they wanted that one out there, but couldn’t work out how to land it. So let’s plonk it in a random article about Joe Gutnick.

Yeah that jammed in there was so weird and out of place, lol. To be expected from a weirdo like Slobbo I suppose.

Was almost funny.

Now we’re in this great scenario where the accredited media won’t be able to choose whether it’s more fun to shaft us or Petracca first. I might keep a scorecard. Or not. Everyone connected to this story is now screwed.

You think that's bad you should see the other piece Robbo wrote today.

Oh don’t make me walk to the IGA.

What was in the other?

Don't understand the obsession with his social media accounts and his Mrs running them. I think that is absolutely nothing in a grand scheme of things.Trac and his management have just come up with a PowerPoint presentation for Perty and Goody of "Here are 30 reasons why you should allow me to leave the Melbourne Football Club" . Most of them are nothing, just used to make his list of complaints look longer than it really is.

Reality is I think there are three and they are fair enough

1. You almost killed me and my family don't like you.
2. I think the coach has lost his marbles, I'm sick of playing boring contest and defense footy but I'm too nice to tell him.
3. The club doesn't take off field issues seriously enough. Drug and alcohol culture. Not enough professionals like me.

What was in the other?

I won't post the whole thing but it opens with this yarn.
The rustic Marion Wine Bar in Gertrude St, Fitzroy, was the scene for a peculiar little gathering of Melbourne players on Tuesday night.
Clearly, the players didn’t seem to care – or they thought they couldn’t be heard – by the table of serious football fans sitting at the next table.
The pleasant surprise seeing AFL players on a windy Tuesday night was one thing, their astonishment at what the players – clearly frustrated – were saying about Christian Petracca was another.
So much so, notes were taken.
Words such as “weird” were heard, and how Petracca’s “weirdness” was accepted at Melbourne, but would not be accepted at another club.
And that it was hoped that “Lamby” – presumably list boss Tim Lamb – didn’t muck up the trade deal, either for Petracca or “Nibbler”, which is the nickname for Alex Neal-Bullen, who has requested a trade to Adelaide.
The players, it was noted, also expressed hope the club would come out of this period OK.
This citizen journalism is the latest layer of discontent surrounding Petracca.

So the leading AFL journalist at Melbourne's leading Newspaper has quoted some 'football fans' who took notes on the private conversation of some unidentified Melbourne players they were sitting next to at a pub and decided to publish it.

'Citizen journalism' is what it's called apparently.

That's so good haha. Even the players say "WHAT WAS TIM LAMB THINKING???"

You would have to be pretty stupid to have a sensitive conversation about a hot media topic in a public bar.
That's why you need this

Fan fiction is citizen journalism!

I really must start buying that thing. Those extracts are diamonds.

In other news please shoot me now. The western world has been sitting on a shaky version of its own vision of itself for a while now, and I’m pretty sure it has already disappeared up its own arseh*le at this point. The only delay time is how long it takes anyone to notice.

Save it for tomorrow ffs, we are on a 4 days of bad news streak here and you just wasted the Kozzy talked to Freo headline on the same day as the Roffey interview. WHAT WAS RYAN DANIELS THINKING???
