AFLW 2024 - Round 6 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
If Gawn’s injury was career ending still think it would be stupid for us to get English. Therefore, I can’t wait to see Tim in the red and blue next year.
Although not massive stars, McEvoy, Nank and Boyd were very good players. Boyd arguably won the Dogs that GF. Cameron is showing he's more than handy as well..I think Grundy has been one reason for Sydney's dominance this season. Also TDK for Blues has been really impressive. Xerri and Meeks rise have helped lift their teams. I think it's an important position. I don't think you can completely ignore it tbh. I like what I've seen of Verrall. Really don't rate Fullerton at all.A short history of the last 10 premiership side’s ruckmen:
2014-15: Ben McEvoy/David Hale
2016: Tom Boyd/Jordan Roughead
2017, 19-20: Toby Nankervis/Shaun Grigg
2018: Scott Lycett/Nathan Vardy
2021: Max Gawn/Luke Jackson
2022: Rhys Stanley
2023: Darcy Cameron/Mason Cox
Gawn’s been great but decent ruckmen aren’t terribly hard to unearth.
Agree it's not unimportant, but most of those blokes listed were at 2nd clubs via cheapish trades (Boyd obvious exception) and/or were later picks to start with.Although not massive stars, McEvoy, Nank and Boyd were very good players. Also everyone of those were brought in cheap when they were ready for a crack at a flag. Don't need to waste money and picks on finding another 10 year ruckAgree it's not unimportant, but most of those blokes listed were at 2nd clubs via cheapish trades (Boyd obvious exception) and/or were later picks to start with.
No need to cough up something silly for English when Verrall could do, or we flick a 3rd rounder to someone for a ready made ruck.
Yep. I guess I was trying to point out that we can't have a mug in the position. Obviously dont need to overpay for someone, and Verrall is tracking OK, but the position is still an important one. That's why I think Verrall is a better option to replace Gawn for the next few weeks and not Fullarton who to me, is more of a forward/relief ruck.Agree it's not unimportant, but most of those blokes listed were at 2nd clubs via cheapish trades (Boyd obvious exception) and/or were later picks to start with.

Yeah I reckon chasing key forwards is only slightly more sensible than going after ‘quality ruckmen’.3 guys in the whole comp have kicked more than 40 goals. If we go and waste money and picks on a key forward I'll laugh. JVR and Fritsch is easily enough. Just get good players
Max King goes out an saints have their best inside 50 conversion of the season
Not a coincidence

Ultimately, we’ve already hit up the draft for JVR and Jefferson (who is finally starting to show some signs in the VFL) we’ve also brought in Kentfield. We are in desperate need for dynamic midfielders and will have a Steven May sized hole to fill in defence before too long. Throwing away huge amounts of cash and trade/draft capital for KPFs would be irresponsible imv.
I have my doubts with Petty he just seems to be quite fragile - ends a lot of games hobbling and every chance he seeks a trade back to SA in the future. I reckon our KPD situation is more urgent - will any of May, Petty, McDonald or Tomlinson be on the list beyond 2025?Good post.
The KFF thing is interesting for us as we can theoretically fill our Steven May hole in defence if we somehow land a Waterman/Treacy type and shift Petty back to FB who I think makes a very good long term FB.
Or we just back JVR in and play a 2nd ruck/KFF who's somewhat competent so JVR doesn't have to 2nd ruck. Or play a smaller forward line.

it'll be cool, we'll just make him play injured.I mean I love him, but his injury history is a massive concern and would cost us a fortune in a trade. Still, if you gave me the option of Allen or the other names that have been mentioned here like King, McDonald and JUH give me Allen every time even with his injury history.
