The most annoying aspect is that we never seem to be the beneficiary of a player wanting to walk away from a successful club, while entering the prime of their career.

When we land a big fish it’s someone at the end of their career (Grundy) or when we lured Franklin it was on a record deal even though he supposedly came to us. It’s never easy.

But just in the last decade we’ve lost Tom Mitchell (Brownlow medalist), Dawson (AA and club captain) and now Warner (AA). All three genuinely rated as stars when we lost them and there’s no shot of really being adequately compensated.

Forgive me for not wishing them well on the way out when we’ve created a winning environment for all of them for very little reward.

This only makes a flag this year even more crucial as our big three is about to be decimated by 1/3. Basking in a premiership for the next 6 months will definitely soften the blow and hopefully another superstar is just around the corner for us.

Bloody thankful that Heeney and Gulden are NSW boys! What a perfect advertisement for why we need the academy.

Hence why the traditional AFL states don't like the Academies.
Because we develop home state talent.
Harder to take from us.

Very annoyed if we lose Warner.
Worst case scenario?
We lose this GF.
We lose next year.
Warner leaves.

It will be 2016 all over again when we lost Tom Mitchell after the disappointment of being cheated out of a GF.

Gives me bad vibes about this GF if Chad has leaving us in the back of his mind.
Everyone can say what they want, but IMO his commitment to us is diminished compared to that of a Jude Bolton or Adam Goodes or LRT & the extra edge required to win a flag is not actually there. The flash & glam is but not the real grunt.
I would love him to prove me wrong away from the SCG this Saturday.

I still think he will go all out to win on Saturday. I’d never question that. Trying not to envision the worst case scenario, if we win this Saturday I suppose at least we got a flag out of it and I won’t stress as much about him leaving.

Have we lost Warner?

Reality is I feel we as fans get way too invested in players. These players are humans, who on earth knows what is driving them home and it's not always money even though it seems that way. Do the WAG's have a say sure, most partners do, mine sure on earth has a big say where we live and what not and it has nothing to do with money despite me getting significantly more at my current position.

Even if we hold him next year, we get a top 5 pick, plus maybe a f1 (with a 3rd going back to WCE), that's a good return if it comes to it.
It's not the player I am invested in.
I am invested in the pieces of the puzzle put in place to contend & then win premierships.
Warner is a vital piece of that puzzle much like Dawson was & they were both invested in quite heavily with our time & resources, only to see them go to a lesser club who have shown nothing but mediocrity for the best part of 20 years.

Having said all this, I don't begrudge them chasing the dollars but like Dawson, I wish them all the best with their money & can only hope their new club fail miserably throughout the rest of their careers.

It only makes me appreciate our hard working premiership players more, because they were loyal & got the most out of themselves for the club to help themselves to a premiership. Those players that chased money or came to us for money, seem to all end up unhappy at the ends of their careers. Barry Hall & even Bud didn't seem to leave us contently.

Those that came to us for opportunity have mostly been by far the best & most successful & rewarded club men we've ever had.
I like fast but also loyal players. ;)

I'm with you here DA, drives me mental. I know Sydney is expensive, but these guys earn good money and if your average Joe can somehow buy a house here, then these blokes certainly can.
Freo had THREE chances to pick Chad before we did, but saw nothing in him, maybe Chad should remember that when it comes to contract discussion time.
To be fair to Chad, his whole family is over there and he seems very tight with them. It's not uncommon for people to work, live and travel away from home but once done spreading their wings, come back to where their roots are.

The important thing for us as a club is to only offer what is fair and if that doesn't get the job done, extract the maximal compensation from whichever WA club he goes to.

Yeah I know DA.

The negative me just can't see a scenario where we win.
Three losses in a row has polluted my mind.
But win or lose, if Chad is going, then we should get it done now so that we can invest in those still at our club or those that may come to our club.

I love the Finn McGuiness type player so go get him Swans.
JJ hasn't let us down because he wants to be an AFL senior footballer.
The bloke above will bring the same hunger.

Has something happened with Warner in the last few days that I have missed?

Otherwise, up until now I am yet to see a single piece of credible evidence that he has any intention of leaving.
Apparently those with inside mail have heard his GF wants him back in WA at the end of this contract. He asked for a trade this season and Sydney said no

Surely we would at least ask the question of Serong?
Chad's trade value would be higher by a touch.

If we let what could be the most exciting player of the next 5 years go for a couple of draft picks it's going to be tough to swallow.

At least the Hawks got 500 goals and 2 flags from Buddy.

Good. Another GWS bonus to even up the NSW competition bites the dust. Thanks. Feel much better today already.

They don’t need that area it’s not even not a footy area that was taking the Mickey

I don't think mentally, he will be any different this game than last game, and he went okay then!

Was our only player worth anything last time dead set could have won the Norm Smith and we almost got flogged by 100
