Doing a few different draft scenarios for us, fwiw. The assumption behind all of them are Cochran going somewhere between 45 and 55, with us still having a pick somewhere in the 60s or so (unsure how many picks will be used).

This first scenario is probably my #1 to cover various needs.
  • Davis the best medium forward available (Hynes maybe slightly more a mid/HFF).
  • Sims is a fwd/ruck, but one of his strengths is one of our weaknesses, contested marking, which none of the other key forwards around are known for. If mobile types are OK, Faull swapping with Davis or Matt Whitlock are options too.
  • Phoenix Hargrave (181cm) is a no-frills contested mid with clean hands, decent up forward. Played 6 SANFL games.
  • Loch MacTaggart (184cm), as well as one of the best names at the draft, is one of very few small/medium defenders who are actually mentioned as lockdown options. He may get to the rookie draft, may not even be drafted at all, but this is a need for us, so willing to take a punt.
  • Kobe Ryan (183cm) is a 20 year old mid from West Adelaide who after missing being drafted, won the SANFL Breakthrough Player Award last year and this year made the SANFL Team of the Year averaging 26 disp, 9 tackles, 6.6 clearances.

This next one prioritises the best KPF likely to be available (though Jack Whitlock might be there). Davis again. Boxshall (187cm) as a bigger mid who can spread as well (Hargrave feeds others). Angove as a decent half/small forward option, though touch and go whether he'll be available. MacTaggart could be there at the end of the rookie draft tbh.

This one is all over the place. I've relented and prioritised a small forward in Dattoli who can go into midfield. We've also decided Cochran isn't enough in the tall defender market and hedged bets with Matt Whitlock who could play at either end. Given Whitlock might end up down back, I've gone Bailey McKenzie as a 192cm forward who can push up as a link player, but also kicked 6 in a Coates League prelim (for 27 goals in 10 games). Tom Murphy grabbed as a mature ager to provide some extra midfield depth in the haul (alongside Dattoli's cameos) and I've Loched in MacTaggart again (seriously have not found other one-on-one small/medium defenders).

This last one is the Kinnear Special. He's / I've decided Oliver can become the next Cunningham, despite currently playing half back (with a combative and courageous streak). Kennedy (180cm 2-way mid) has been swooped on before others can get him in the 30s. This leaves us with some more speculative KPFs at Pick 40, but worth a shot. Sulzberger (187cm) can kick some goals as a medium forward with a decent frame, but also spend plenty of time in midfield. Unwin is a mid/small forward whose goalkicking suffered this year spending time away from the F50 and some awful accuracy, but the best of the remaining small forwards possibly at this point.
Disagree Hamish Davis is the best medium fwd, I think Josh Murphy from Murray is

Your scenario 2 has THREE Claremont players.

Which is acceptable.

Dominant team this year, Dan Curtin brother looks like he'll be an early pick next year, big unit
Every year WA produces some high caliber talent.

This year, Claremont pulverised the WAFL colts comp, even with Davis playing up in the seniors.

There’s some real talent there. Davis, Boxshall and Angove will surely be drafted.

Hayes, Dennis, Ravenhill and Van Der Stryuff aren’t without hope either.

And yep, Curtin will be a very early 2025 selection.

I just wonder if Pyke’s departure has lessened our Claremont connection.

Any flight risks?

Tomlinson
DGB
Parfitt
Sam Day

Are they any better than our top 23-27 ? If the answer is yes - bring them in.

He's certainly been prolific in a few games, but hasn't performed at the same level as Davis.

It does seem strange he isn't really mentioned anywhere though.
Davis kicked 7 goals in 7 games at WAFL League level (in 2 games where he kicked 4 and 3), whereas Murphy kicked 32 goals in the 11 games he played for Murray

Both kicked 7 for U18’s teams respectively.
