Exactly, its way too early to tellWho knows, he might end up as a third mobile tall forward.
And I’ll admit, because he hasn’t been exposed to footy as much, it could take time and yes, he could very well fail.
Because the talent in the draft has become evidently more stronger, and more players have started to emerge as higher picks, a player like Joel has gone down rankings to the point of going unnoticed - so the chances of a cheap pick with a late, or even making it through as cat B rookie is a stronger possibility as the draft gets closer.

Do to his athleticism, his upside is big. His acceleration is elite. One of the knocks is his ability to hit a target. This is more based on not properly knowing what he's doing, rather than a flawed technique. This just naturally fixes itself with game time and confidence in his role. I don't think the Academy settled him in a position, which has probably been detrimental. He needs a period of time with one clearly defined role (in the VFL), and let him nail it.

The acceleration thing? Go check his highlights. Other kids just can't do that. As for Brander, no one is going to spend #13 on Cochran. Brander was a way better player at this age. Cochran can hit a target, he just doesn't properly know what he's doing yet. He's played everywhere but never truly learned how to play a position.

More the hitting targets thing, I recon the last thing I want is a player who can't hit a target when turnovers lose games these days. It's probably why I've been consistent in this, not matching before the 4th round, even then not sure I would personally. Feel he's a rookie pick, be perfect if we could get him through to the Cat B rookie. Think I have him 60+ and that's very generous.

For Cochran, long term his position seemes to be an intercepting third tall down back.

I too don't like drafting players who can't kick. If you can't kick, unless your Cripps or Fyfe, generally speaking you can't play. Cochran's kick is fine.
Maybe not, but it still feels like an odd thing to be going onto another team's board to discuss.
Cochran is likely a 50+ pick or rookie draft selection. Dunno why another team's supporter would care.

He is worth something in the 50s or 60s. We have pick 73. Even if he's available, I doubt we would take him.
I'm not saying he's amazing, and I'm not trying to talk you into anything (because you have no say in who the Swans draft). I'm just saying he has some serious athletic ability and might be worth a shot.

Joel’s kicking per se is fine, but like all newbies, it will obviously need some development and improvement, refinement.
I find that because he has an athletics background, his speed can cloud his disposal efficiency (in that Collingwood VFL game is was 62.5%) so his kicking action is reasonably ok, he just needs to learn to slow it down a touch, look up, and hit the target.
As I said earlier, he’s suffered from not having consistent game time this year, as donmost of our Academy boys. They only ever get four games in the Coates League, and maybe four games in U18’s.

From what I've seen and heard Joel has the raw material but is a fairly late arrival. We have time to develop him into whatever role he seems best suited to. For a newbie it's simpler to play in defence but with his characteristics, if his kicking comes on, I would be interested in seeing him tried as a third tall in attack with his speed and leap. We talk a lot about our talls being cumbersome.

I don't mind David Cuningham actually. I always rated him as being a solid player at senior level. Injury prone but useful as a forward type.
A hailmary? fringe mid at Carlton not exactly sure what he could improve on from Adams.
I mean he is 28 why are we bringing in someone who has not averaged more than 10 disposals a game.
