Not against a KPD just not with those two picks if we went with our third go for it. We need a KPF and a small forward right now especially the SF
I don't believe a KPD who has slid to 40 something in the draft is highly likely to spend his time at the Swans other than playing VFL.
While Cochran has played in defence I'm not sure that's where his long term future lies. I think his first season will be all about developing skills and trying things (at least I hope so!).
All I'm saying is that most here seem to think that the fact that we will be bringing Cochrane into the squad will be the answer to our defense issues. I hope he will be but I would not be betting on it.

Tyrone Leonardis didn't like Adam Goodes.

Leonardo Lombard would declare war to defend Adam Goodes' honour, conquer the lands of those vilifying Goodes, and then paint a mural about it on the ceiling.
I look forward to my ceiling getting painted by Leo. I wonder could he do a dinner scene like Micky did? Or a boozy one like Toulouse? I bloody don't want any of Monet or Manet's friggin' flowers, I have a whole country full of blossoms. But a bloody good dinner scene, that's the one we need. Goodsie, Micky O, the Big Fella, Kells, Skilts & their partners all clinking the chrystal

Why wait until halfway through the next season when you could address a need for the whole season?

There's younger mature age mids around (I've mention some in a bunch of my scenarios), but if your goal is to win a flag in the short term, then a 27 year old could be fine.
We traded in a bloke who played 5 or 6 matches but arguably was the difference between winning a premiership or not. 2012.

We're not just talking about 27 year olds, but I guess the guru has spoken. Mature agers are always useless and 18 year olds are just as ready to impact.
I know right Brew is better than Sheldrick/Cleary/Campbell/Wicks.

Reckon you could play him as a small forward and he would apply more pressure than any of them even though he is a tough midfielder

Personally wouldn’t take a KPD- we need a forward more! Did you not see how putrid our forward line was most of the year? Heeney saving everyone’s you know what’s isn’t sustainable.

Key Forward-Small-Forward (first two picks)

Third pick (Kennedy OR a small defender)

4th Cochran

I would like another one in between the first two and the third but everyone on here hates me saying I’d trade our f1 to do it. That’s what the cost would be (minimum)

Trainor is an interesting one. I think he was rated the best tall defender and a top 10 pick up for most the year. However, all the mock drafts have him sliding, to the point where he hasn't even been invited to attend the first evening. It looks like he is a good chance to be available, possibly even on our pick 22 (which will end up being 26).

With Rampe not getting younger and the question marks around our backup tall defenders, is he too good a prospect to knock back, especially given he can play forward too?
I really hope not. Looks a spud on the limited tape I've seen.
I was amazed he was considered so highly even a month ago. Strong chance of 'tall kid does well in junior footy but with nothing to set him apart in seniors' IMO.

Grundy, Rampe, Melican, Aliir say hi.

Stewart, Ryan, Sicily, McGovern, Wilkie etc.

I'm on board with using our F1.

By our powers combined!

If we take the second Whitlock we can hedge our bets. He's both a KPF and a KPD.

I have to confess - I was a bit baffled by the drastic slide in late phantom drafts & assume it’s due to concussion concerns.

I dont have any real insight into the non-WA kids, but I’d be delighted if we drafted Trainor, as good judges have rated him extremely highly.

Those same good judges certainly seem to regard him as a superior talent to the Whitlocks or any of the other talls around our range.

Yes, he’d be a risk. But I’d like to see us take the risk.

RMC phantom predicts us taking:

PICK 22: Luke Trainor (Sydney)

“This probably the one you pull out for Trainor… it’s such a Sydney pick. I think he fits a need and provides some extra depth in that back half, but obviously has the traits to also turn into a forward. The Swans always work them out pretty quickly so can do that again with a slider in Trainor.” – Peter Williams

PICK 26: Cooper Hynes (Sydney)

“That’s the second time Ed has snuck in before me for a prospect… for Sydney again they lost Luke Parker so I’ll go with Hynes. He provides a hard-edge in midfield and up forward so can slot into that exact role and he seems like a very Sydney selection. They’ll get the best out of him.” – Peter Williams

Can't see why we would pass on Matt Whitlock or Jonty Faull to take Trainor. Then Hannaford is available at our second pick, though I could see some attraction in Hynes. Guess we'll know soon enough.

“..the Swans are also big fans of Faull, who’s strong overhead and competitive, yet agile and clean below his knees for a player of his size. Alternatively, Vic Metro defender Luke Trainor is a big chance to slip through to their second first-round pick. Touted as a top-five prospect earlier this season, Trainor is precise by foot and is strong in the air.”

ESPN’s final predictions:

Sydney: 19, 22, 44, 59, 85, 91
  • 22: Jonty Faull
  • 26: Ollie Hannaford
  • 40: Riley Bice
  • 52: Joel Cochran (Academy)

Lazy stuff at Pick 40. A half-back/wing is the most stocked area we have.

Can't discount the club going there though, which would be a fail.

Prefer to take Kennedy there to be honest if he’s there

There are 15 non F/S or NGA players taken after that pick, that would be a better pick for us than Bice or another HB/wing.

They've got my man Phoenix Hargrave taken with the last pick by Richmond. I'd be thrilled if we could get him with our last live pick.

This is why I've been adamant trade in our future (whether it be a second or a first not sure on the going rate), get another pick between 28-40. I'd be happy flipping our future to this season.

KPF/Small forward (first rounders)
Midfielder or medium forward
Mid or small defender
then match Cochrane

Yeah, I'd be happy to get another Top 40 pick.

We might also wait until the Cochran bid (which I think comes before our 4th pick), then trade back in immediately if there's someone we like still around, just like we did to get Snell.

I don't have a set order of need to address at each pick, a lot depends on who is still available. There's players to address each need at most points of the draft.
