We're not just talking about 27 year olds, but I guess the guru has spoken. Mature agers are always useless and 18 year olds are just as ready to impact.
Why wait until halfway through the next season when you could address a need for the whole season?Never said mature ages are useless but there’s a slight difference between a 27 year old and a 22-23 year old
The mid season draft is what is there to pick a mature ager if need be

There's younger mature age mids around (I've mention some in a bunch of my scenarios), but if your goal is to win a flag in the short term, then a 27 year old could be fine.
Disagree. We won’t need them- sign them to the VFL and take them in the MSD if need be. Wouldn’t even want his type anyway. Might as well have picked up Matt Kennedy from Carlton if we wanted that
Pretty decent hand actually for finishing 2nd and not losing anyone in their prime.Really Draft night is more exciting if you hold several top 10 picks.
Our hand is very meh
I wouldn't. Not really the lockdown type we need and concussion risk. If our 3 existing senior KPDs were durable/not approaching retirement, maybe you could take a punt.
He's described as a 3rd tall / intercept type who has lockdown ability as an area of improvement. We've got Melican, Snell on the way, Cochran incoming, and Blakey as a 195cm intercepting halfback.I would have thought someone 194 cm that can read the play and contested mark would be pretty high on the list.
Real concussion issues definitely a spanner unfortunately

Whereas you'd generally want 2 out of 3 KPDs as lockdown types and we have Tmac, Melican if we see him as the 2nd, Edwards.
I think it would be stupid for North to take another midfielder when they have a glaring weakness in defense. No-one disputes FOS is the better footballer but why draft something you don't need and ignore a player who can help you with what you DO need.Cal on the interview this morning on the draft show. It is hardly some shock.
What it means though is North aren't trading 2- they were only considering it (fractionally) if FOS was taken at 1.
I'm not sure where you're getting the contested mark ability from, everything I've read is that he's a gun intercept mark. But nothing about the contest and his lockdown ability is his weakness. We don't have a player in the top 40 for contested marks and never replaced Paddy. Blakey has that to his game but it's not his one wood.
Guys like Melican or Snell will have a part but it doesn't replace the big need for confident aerialists that demand the ball.
This guy's been dominant in an area we lack imo

If Harry Armstrong gets to pick 15 /16 like Twomey predicts, we should be bundling what we can to move up to get him.

Aliir aside, they're 2m or above which helps.A contested mark is anything under physical pressure or in a pack
Guys like Aliir, Andrews, Comben, Lobb who are interceptors and not necessarily lockdown types take a lot of contested marks because they're confident in the air and get to those situations.
This is why I'm surprised so many here saying we shouldn't be taking a KPD as one of our first two selecions because we will be taking Cochrane. The fact that he may slide through to the rookie draft doesn't instill confidence in me that he will be the answer to our defensive needs.True although the success rate of taking an 18 yo rookie is not much better. The reality is that by the time you get to what is essentially a pick on thr wrong side of 50, the hit rate is rather low.
