Eric HIPWOOD
Harris ANDREWS
Jonathan FREEMAN
Shadeau BRAIN
Connor BALLENDEN

I have done a bit of googling and having no luck, would there be a list around of every Lions academy player who has ever made it onto an AFL list at another club?

Then there's the half dozen who've gone to Richmond and North I think

It's a very long bow to draw to credit the academy for the development and subsequent drafting of some of those kids. Some of them got picked up post academy life and were absolutely demoralised by the academy process, but the Lions were happy to list them as 'drafted from the academy' after they got picked up.

Can’t pick them all Miller!

How is Jaspa fletcher have not heard anything about him since he was drafted thought he would be pushing for selection by now

Rumoured to be debuting this week....
Huge game to be debuting in if so, away in a stand alone Friday night game against a big Melbourne club at a sold out Marvel.

Expecting to see a video on lions.com tomorrow morning with Fagan announcing it to the team... anyone on here know Adrian, give him a call and see if he's flying down for the game.

Agreed, will be huge if true.
But we've done it with Tunstill before so no surprises here.

wasn't the right thing to do then and this would be the same.

We'll keep trying until we get it right and Fagan can say.....

I do t think they’re intentionally going ‘it’s a big game so time to debut someone’. I think they look at who they think should come in and pick them regardless of the context of the game.

It may have not ‘worked’ for Tunstill but it was perfectly fine for Wilmot. Worked so well that he hasn’t left the side since and probably won’t for the next decade barring injuries. In fact Marlion Pickett debuted in a Grand Final and it was a perfect decision.

It’s not a problem in my opinion. I think it’s just stands out because we got humiliated that game.

Well it looks like we are going to be fine for inside mids for the next while anyways. Does make it interesting what the list management team would think as an area of need for this years. In regards to the notion of some of our players on the outer (e.g. Dev, Prior and even possibly Lohmann as he resigned) one would think to target next years draft for compensation. Possibly even free up the possibility of moving next years first into this years somehow. Melbourne’s first rounder (not Freo’s) would be handy.

I did look at I think in the off season. We seem to develop more total talent that plays at least 1 game than most of the other academies. But we dont seem to develop as much top end talent (or at least high draft picks)
Andrews was pick 61 and Payne (lets all hope he keeps improving) was pick 55, and both QLD Lads from our Academy.

Tall KPPs. Invest and develop.

And a ruck. I still hope Lane clicks and stays long term for us.

Without knowing if we have any incoming trades in the works, I’ve mentioned before that I’d consider trading our future first plus any third and fourth round picks we have in this years draft, for Gold Coast second round pick plus their future second round pick and future third round pick.

As it’s a pick trade, I’d save it for draft night, as Gold Coast won’t be able to take so many late picks to the draft.

We’d be taking at least four picks to the draft, with the intention of only using two (ours and Gold Coast’s second round picks).

Take the two best available KPP’s.

Upgrade one of our rookie listed players, with the intention of picking one of our academy KPP’s as a rookie.

Keep the last list spot for the SSP. Maybe Cameron jr is lined up as an incoming small forward, or we have a good look at any possible KPP’s that were delisted by other clubs or missed being drafted.

When did Lohmann resign with the club, I didn’t know he signed an extension with us?

Andrews at pick 61 was a bit misleading - he was bid on under the old system at pick 34 and pick 61 was our next available pick.

With the Ashcroft lads being on the shorter side as well as Neale, and not overly quick, I would suggest any other mids we look to add in the next couple of years should be tall and/ or quick. Just to keep that balance.
Reportedly, we have a couple of 6’4”/6’5” mids in our academy, but they’re only U15 or U16’s this year.
