Looking at the players still left on the board there are still a few there who would be good pick ups IMO... >

Koen Sanchez - Small Forward, natural footballer with pace.
Archer Reid- Key Forward, highest rated KPF left, bit worried that the knock on him from some is lack of physicality.
Joel Freijah - Wing, long striding with pace and endurance.
Kane McCauliffe - Inside Mid, powerful bull with a good kick, we'd be reaching but I like him.
Arie Schoenmaker - 3rd tall defender, great kick.
Shaun Mannagh - Forward/Mid, energiser bunny mature ager.
Tew Jiath - 3rd tall intercepting defender, good disposal and athletic.

So was that 5 or 6 prospects compared to Charlie Curnow? I lost count.

Also the media training they go through drains any semblance of personality from the boys. Give me a Wilmot any day. Granted it doesn’t help having that plonker Dixon interview them.

And you get sick of the same 15 awkward looking blokes with horrendous haircuts hugging the draftees.

I think west cost will go Edwards. That leaves us with Reid. Good pick up for second round. Not much we can do with our picks. Our second pick is the interesting one

Not to mention watching the Fox show and the numerous references to ‘unicorns’.

WTF is a unicorn and where the hell did that term come from in 2023 referring to draftees.

I’m seriously lost with this new BS speak.

Please someone enlighten me.

I only had it on in the background so didn't get too bored of all the talking. But was very amused by the couple of kids who were just there woth friends and clearly not ready to be picked up. Those moments of pure joy make it worth it to me

Best players available tomorrow night:

Ruck - Mitch Edwards

Key Forwards - Archer Reid
Logan Morris

Half Backs - Luamon Lual
Archie Roberts
Tew Jiath
Angus Hastie
Cooper Simpson

Key Defenders - Ollie Murphy
Zane Zakostelsky

Currently picks 31, 42 and 89 (Michael upgrade)
I have (as needs):

Talls
Zakostelsky
Reid
Edwards - could go at 30 (and WC have a pick[40] before our next)
Murphy

Wing
Schoenmaker
O'Leary

Sm Fwds
Sanchez
O'Driscoll

And as "Others"

Mids
De La Rue
McAuliffe
Sruk
Hall

Gen Fwd
Morris
Callinan
Ollington

H'Back/Fwd
Roberts
B. Ryan
Shipp

Pick 31 - I would go tall (as I don't think any of the above talls will be there at 42) - Reid if we want it to be a fwd, Murphy if we want the solid pick defender, Zakostelsky if we want to back in his potential ............... me Zac, but tempted by Schoenmaker (and he won't be there at 42)

Pick 42 - Who might still be available ? Probably not Schoenmaker, Morris, Roberts and I think Sanchez is a remote chance to be there if WC don't pick him, but no cert.
O'Leary could be and fits a need. Of the rest, well I "fell in love with Sruk" but don't see us taking him. I see, De La Rue and Callinan as skillful picks. We have plenty of half backs on the list.
I would take Sanchez if available, Callinan if not.

And I'm guessing we have some rookie spots (Cockatoo and Michael), so I think there will be a place for my man Sruk.

Edit: Forgot about Mannagh ..... I would certainly consider him, if available at 42, as a replacement for Zorko for the next few years.

I've always thought of unicorn players as once in a generation like your Dusty Reid I think makes sense but you're right Mick did use it for quite a few players

Saw this on the night, clearly we didn’t end up with 24. Can anyone throw a bit of light on what happened here?
or was it just Foxtel getting it wrong ?
By the time 24 came around there were 7 bid matches.
Each one pushes you pick and other clubs picks back.
Bids at 3, 9 ,14, 15, 19, 24, 26

24 + 7 =31

It was pick 24 at the start of the draft, but there were 7 academy and father son kids drafted in the first round, which pushed it out to pick 31.

Our second pick has pushed out to pick 42.

I like the hypothetical picks but you know the Lions always go someone random.
Yeah I love how The Lions put the names randomly on a spinning wheel and let it rip, Wherever it lands we call out the name.

Archer Reid or Mitch Edwards for me at our first pick.

For me, Edwards has everything teams I like in a modern ruck. But we have two young rucks tied up on contracts at the moment.

I still question Archer Reid, as I see him as being very (very) similar to Tom Gillett.

No idea who will still be available at our second pick.

Would be happy with Luamon Lual, Cooper Simpson or Joel Freijah. All three players have genuine speed and decent or better disposal.

I like Simpson, as he has a strong contested game as well, and I see similarities to Bailey. Can play forward and on ball.

We won't go Edwards. We brought in Flynn as a FA & drafted Harry Barnett last year so not really a need. I think we go Archie Roberts if we don't trade it & slide back.

Edwards and Simpson would be a great outcome. They have been my two choices for a while now.

I still think Edwards can be a marking forward, and has a few years to develop into Joe’s replacement.

I agree Simpson has traits of Bailey, but I see him as a slightly taller version of Zorko.
