Are you for real; who hasn’t used a fake ID when they were 17 or had siblings, ransom strangers at the drive thru or mates siblings buy you grog when you were u/18 or u/21 in the US and coming across that there’s jail time attached to it. Give us a break; have you seen how much youth crime exists in this country with burglaries, bashings, ramming police cars etc etc and none of them see jail yet a kid buying his mates some grog is now getting jail time or worse yet a ten game ban. I’m sure those nobody decision makers must’ve felt big handing down such a penalty. Pathetic.
the suspension was handed down by the tasmanian devils on to one of their players. how they handle their own disciplinary matters is completely unrelated to other youth crime or jail sentences. its whataboutism that does not even make sense in this context.

Pretty sure the club intends Smith to be our next KPF/part-time ruck at this stage rather than a full time ruck. Lane is more a pure ruck - he looked promising at stages last year but was fairly anonymous in the games I saw this year unfortunately. Still early days for him though.
From memory Lane only played a year or two of senior footy in Perth before we drafted him. Prior to that was playing country footy. Hopefully he is given time to show what he can. They certainly showed patience with Archie, albeit he probably gave us more glimpses along the way of what he might be capable of than Kalin has to date.

Nothing "now" about it. But the point of my previous comment seems to be what you missed.

I got my free copy of the Rookie Me Central draft guide and looked at a fair bit of footage and I would be happy with a couple/3 of these guys with our first 2-3 selections (currently 30, 39 & 51), I also expect us to try and move up the draft board on the night. These are players that could realistically be available to us, not pie in the sky dream scenarios.

Will Dawson- Can play key back/forward/ruck, I'm hoping he is a forward replacement for Joe after a few years development, really looks like he has something in the "highlights".. high upside IMO.

Joel Freijah- Tall(190cm) elite endurance winger, needs to work on contested game.

Phoenix Gothard- I really like this player, he is a very quick agile small forward, on his video footage I am amazed he isn't rated higher, good replacement for Charlie/Linc in a couple of years.

Kane Mcauliffe- Probably not a need for us but I really like the look of him if he's available at our 2nd/3rd selection... contested beast with power and pace.

Archer Reid- Another option as a developing tall forward, might be gone before our 1st selection unless we move up the board, Reid is rated higher than Will Dawson by just about every draft pundit but I prefer Dawson... looks like he enjoys the contest more.

Riley Weatherill- Development tall forward, worth a shot with a late selection if still on the board.

If still available as a rookie selection I would consider Patrick Snell(Lions academy, key back), Joe Fonti(wing) or Sam Van Rooyen(key forward).

Phoenix Gothard and Will Dawson would be my preferred first 2 realistic selections barring an unexpected slider on the night.

Gothard looked impressive to me. Definite small forward replacement. Little bit of Toby Green about him. He’s my choice of this group.

Not convinced about Dawson. Serviceable and got reasonable ground and contested skills for a big bloke, but still a bit raw. He also has a strange kicking action and needs to hold his marks. May take 3 or 4 more years of skills training.

Freijah moves well, moves well and from all the media build up, I was expecting an Isaac Smith clone. Needs to contest harder, and is a bit predictable with his ball use.

McAuliffe is a beast, but a bit loose with his aggressive competitiveness. Good left foot, but not always on target. Reminded me a bit of Beastmode.

Agree on just about all that jfn.

McAuliffe quicker and better endurance than Matho but yes some parts of his game do look similar.

Dawson is a bit of a gut feel thing with me, something about the way he carries himself says upside.

Possibly because he has a bit of Sam Skinner about him, minus the ACL’s.

Athletic and a bit of aggression in his game.

I reckon you are spot on with your predictions as we will look at players that AFL qualities with an upside. I am sure our first strategy will be to try to move up the draft board by swapping our first pick with the Gold Coast to get a player we really want. This of course depends on where the Gold Coast academy players get chosen. If not Dawson would be my first pick if available as we need a developing tall and he seems to have the right attributes. Then from there a wingman or small forward whoever is best.

Mitch Edwards looks a great prospect. Great leap, good contested mark and very mobile for a 206cm ruck. Played some ressies this year too.

I still think we should take the best available ruck just based on lack of good key defence or forward options around our pick.

I also like the look of Archer Reid. Has the mobility and size to play ruck, forward or back. Also less of a flight risk than perhaps an Edwards who is tied to Fremantle’s NGA I’m pretty sure. We would have to trade up to get either. But one of Green, Edwards or Reid (less so) could sneak to our first.

If we end up taking the best ruck in the draft at pick 30ish then that’s a steal for mine.

Whoever we do draft, I hope they have a bit of mongrel in them. Especially the talls. Smith, Lane, Fullerton, Ballenden, Schache, and others we've drafted over the years have shown talent but have been a bit soft or timid. I think it's probably why we haven't seen these players truly push for a first grade spot. You can't coach or train mongrel or hardness into a player, you either have it or you don't.

I get that talls need a bit of time to develop their game and fill out their bodies. But I really believe they need that aggression or hard competitiveness to take that next step. The talls we've drafted over the years that have those qualities have made it into the team. Gardiner n Hippy have that aggression, Andrews n Payne have that competitive determination. Skinner had it and was on track to break through but injury cruelled him.

I really can't see us going for another player who is predominately a ruckman(Archer Reid yes as he is a predominant KPF), Fort and O have at least a couple of years left and then we have Lane and Smith as developing rucks.

100% with you on this, must have a thirst for the contest/physicality, Will Dawson has that.

I’m not overly keen to “reach” for the best tall available at our first pick. Definitely prefer to take a best player available approach, regardless of position.

Ruck, half forward or wing, should all be available at our first pick.

I like Dawson as a potential later pick, but honestly wouldn’t be surprised if both Dawson and Archer Reid are both picked up by North in the mid 20’s, as they look for KPP prospects with their end of first round picks.

I guess it depends if posters believe if Smith or Lane have AFL potential.
