Why wouldn't you want to come to the Lions at the moment? Best team in the comp with a pretty strong projection for the next 10 years. Hawthorn did well last year but can they back it up? Also, is Sam Mitchell going to end up being outed as a bit toxic? Time will tell I guess but I could see his coaching tenure going pear-shaped pretty quickly if he isn't careful.

Jeff White’s an AFL legend? 🤔
How would you refer to him? Number 1 pick, AA ruckman, Demons BnF winner, State of Origin Victoria rep, 250+ AFL games, played in the 2000 GF etc. He kind of did everything a ruckman can realistically do without winning a flag.

Would you prefer something like former AFL star?

I’m not being critical, but labels such as legends and stars is bandied out way too often for players that don’t deserve such standing.

Matthews and Voss are legends. Ackermanis and Lappin were stars.

I’d go with former AFL player or former AFL no 1 pick when describing White but that’s me; all semantics really which I should’ve left alone.
Fair enough. I think it's mostly subjective anyway since we don't have recognised criteria for those words (unless we're referring to the Hall of Fame Legend status).

The point of the post was that convincing sons of notable VFL/AFL players to stay in Queensland instead of joining their father's club in Melbourne would be a great sign of growth for footy up here and both of our clubs have the opportunity to do so over the next 24 months.

Drafts are 12 and 24 months apart, but you would take Bridge or Gilder over Hodge for your half backline all day and twice on Sundays. He would want to improve alot, (as he may well do !)

Any word on whether Lucy Ashcroft is going to join your academy this year? She could potentially be your club's first father-daughter pick now that we know the whole Ashcroft gang has moved/is moving back to Queensland. Google suggests she played U15s footy for St Kilda City last year and would be in line to play U16s footy this year. I remember the first time I heard of Lucy Ashcroft was years ago back when we (the Suns) were pushing hard to enter the recently established AFLW competition back in 2017 and she was the centrepiece for a photoshoot they did:

Can't say with certainty, but 90% sure she will.

If you extend it by another 3 years you can add Romeo Lester to the list :D. I think you're missing Tim Notting's kids in the list. I'm not sure if any of them are even interested in footy but Tim married Olympic gold medallist Jodie Henry later so there's some great genes there.

Tim's oldest was born in 2006 - https://www.afl.com.au/news/531158/nottings-first-baby

Tim married Jodie later and they have 3 kids - https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.c...henry-making-a-difference-for-new-generation/

Based on picture below from 4 years ago, there's some interest in Lions + Fitzroy !

Wow. Had no idea that Notting ended up with Jodie Henry! I assume they've been exposed to both footy & swimming and that might end up being a really tough decision considering they potentially have the opportunity to win a gold medal at the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.

I used to swim with (a long way behind) jodie's father and uncle. Both really nice guys and super talented. I think there were other family members also great athletes.

The Henry-Notting kids will have awesome raw talent. If they choose to use it is an entirely different discussion

Both of my parents were gifted musicians just sayin
Okay, but could they take photos of Lions players in 35C preseason heat and have the patience to follow a side during those horrible years and pay membership for that privilege.
