No doubt there’s a shortage of quality venues still.

In terms of injuries will be interesting to see how teams and lists are at Rnd 7 and further when the players routines change back to having a main training session thru the week.

It’s almost like a tournament at the moment.
Does keep it front and centre though.

Why the chance of a shift?
Low capacity at Punt Road.
Last venture there was a lockout when hawthorn were struggling in their first season.

Capacity is lower than it was back then, and hawks and Richmond both a big finals chance.

I'm not spiralling, my hawks contact has told me this is why there's a delay.

Port Melbourne and Ikon Park the shift options

I'll take a punt at guessing what Week 10 will be in terms on scheduling.

*This is with the allocated grounds as of Oct 5th. Possibilities of Rich v Haw going to IKON Park or St Kilda v Brisbane going to Frankston for either capacity or TV Broadcast Standard Lighting.

Thursday 31st November
7:15pm - Geelong Cats v Adelaide Crows at GMHBA Stadium

Friday 1st November
7:15pm - Melbourne vs Collingwood at IKON Park

Saturday 2nd November
1:05pm - North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos v Gold Coast Suns at Arden Street Oval
3:05pm - Port Adelaide Power v GWS Giants at Alberton Oval
5:05pm - Fremantle Dockers v Western Bulldogs at Fremantle Oval
7:15pm - Carlton v Essendon at IKON Park

Sunday 3rd November
1:05pm - St Kilda vs Brisbane Lions at RSEA Park
3:05pm - Richmond v Hawthorn at Swinburne Centre
5:05pm - Sydney Swans v West Coast Eagles at Henson Park

Reasons behind timings.
Thursday - Cats won't be in the finals picture, so short turnaround not a concern. Adelaide will be coming off a Friday night game. Crows will possibly be the highest ranked non-vic team. Gives them max rest for a home Friday night final.

Friday - Dud game, but already fixtured at IKON Park and can be used for night footy. Will be a Fox Sports 504 game.

Saturday - North v GC is will a slaughter. With no lights at Arden Street, this timeslot gives North the maximum possible break for what should be their Number One ranking.
Port v GWS, first of the "maybe they could win this to make the finals" games. Port v GWS also wouldn't draw a big TV audience, so this slot is where to hide it (Derby Day will be on Ch7)
Freo v Doggies - This could determine the Dockers place in the 8, with the Dogs just trying to get through the game. Time works for WA TV audience (2pm), and not many in Vic will watch.
Blues v Bombers - Depending on results over the next few weeks, Bombers might be a chance of sneaking into 8th. Rivalry game and uses the IKON Park lights. No brainer for this timeslot.

Sunday - First two games work for ch7 being in Victoria. Both Saints v Lions and Tigers v Hawks could both shape the Top 4 and see a team fall out of the 8. Good way to finish off the regular season on Ch7.
Swans v Eagles. Unlikely the Swans will be in the hunt, but maybe Daisy's Eagles need to win this one to make the finals? Time works for the WA audience, and was going to be on 7Mate anyway, so no issue with 5pm time in NSW.

Port Melbourne is ZERO CHANCE to due Cricket being on there.

If moved, IKON Park, played most likely on Sunday arvo.

The release isn't even being delayed. They've never had it out by R6.

And btw today's game at Punt Road is predictably sold out, so that logic doesn't fly either. (then again, what does logic have to do with AFLW fixturing)

That would take Ikon Park up to 9 games under lights for the season. I think they can only use them 10 times a year, so not leaving a lot of leeway for finals... not a deal breaker, but wouldn't be surprised if they play it safe.

Putting the Swans on at 5pm would be some strange mixed messaging, considering the AFL gave them the season opener because of their crowds last year.

Just double-checked this. The limit is 12 per year, so quite unlikely to be a factor.

That aside, forcing Collingwood to play off a 5-day break vs Melbourne's 8-day break should definitely be avoided. And it can be, given Port Adelaide's shiny lights make their game vs GWS a fine option for the Thursday night, and then the Cats could play Friday off a 6-day break rather than 5.

The issue then becomes when do you play Melbourne v Collingwood at IKON Park?

Saturday double-header?

Wouldn't want it on the Sunday, as you'd want on that day games that will shape the Top 8 to be on Ch7 - plus if the rumoured Richmond v Hawthorn move happens.

Carlton v St Kilda and Collingwood v Richmond were the Sunday arvo games last year.

All-Vic matchups favoured over top-8-shaping games.

Ikon hosting the early and late Saturday matches is a lost double header opportunity, otherwise it is good this is locked in and fans can make their plans.

If ladder form holds, week 1 finals should be:

Saturday 3pm: NM v Adel - Arden Street or Ikon Park
Not on Friday, as that would give higher-ranked North a 6-day break vs the Crows' 7-day break. With it being NM week 1 vs a non-Vic team, maybe they'll go with Arden Street to maximise atmosphere, idk. Likely on 7mate due to horseracing but wygd.

Saturday 7pm: Haw v BL - Ikon Park
Means both teams head into finals off a 6-day break, but it should give the loser a 7-day turnaround for the SF--best to have all week 2&3 games on Saturday (per the GF this year). Frankston is likely unavailable.

Sunday 1pm: PA v Rich - Alberton Oval
Could be pushed forward to have 3 games on Saturday, but Sunday is probably vacant in terms of Ch7's main channel in the traditional footy states.

Sunday 3pm: Frem v Ess/Melb - Fremantle Oval
In the second Sunday slot due to timezones. Shouldn't be Saturday, again due to 6-day vs 7-day factor.

If we play Hawks away week one be interesting to see if we play at Frankston or Princes Park. Even though I live closer to Princes Park I want Frankston just for another ground to tick off.

Hopefully the Grand Final will be at Docklands rather than Princes Park should North or Hawthorn earn the right to host.

Won't be at Frankston as works have started on the oval's playing surface and won't be done until April next year, so Princes Park would have to be the venue.

Also, motorbikes have Marvel Stadium booked on 30 November, so the AFLW Grand Final is unlikely to be played there.

Speaking of which, we are on track to hit 2 million attendees all-time at this year's GF. Currently ~76k away.

It would be practically guaranteed if the match was at a 20k+ venue. Might still get there on the back of Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and remarkably Fremantle playing home finals (in front of a crowd) for the first time.

Docklands is out (bbl)

There isn't a cricket match at the G for a week after the 30th, surely Cricket Australia can stop being so uptight and let it be held there.

Given the quality of some aflw grounds, sure, but the entire centre square being cricket pitches probably isn't great
Cricket pitches aren't 50 metres long mate, nor are they 5 metres wide.

AFLW games have been played at Mackay during cricket season with no issues. It's just politics.
