Haha what a joke that was.

Mon Conti overlooked. **** Dawes off and replace her with the third best player in the comp. Sound fair?
Yes, Gould and Dawes were the two biggest mistakes, in terms of inclusions.

Conti biggest miss for the 21. I probably would've had Jennifer Dunne (over Brenna Tarrant) and Maddy Prespakis in the team also, as opposed to not even making the squad.

2024 Telstra AFLW Rising Star voting
1st – Matilda Scholz (Port Adelaide): 57 votes
2nd – Shineah Goody (Port Adelaide): 48 votes
3rd – Amy Gaylor (Essendon): 26 votes
4th – Lucy Cronin (Collingwood): 22 votes
5th – Beth Schilling (West Coast Eagles): 12 votes

Emma Moore has surely outed herself as having no f*cking idea with these votes

2024 Best and Fairest
Ebony Marinoff - 23 votes
Ash Riddell - 20
Madison Prespakis - 18
Emily Bates - 17
Monique Conti - 17
Georgia Nanscawen - 17
A very familiar leaderboard.

Marinoff two previous 3rd-place finishes. Riddell already had a 2nd and 4th place. Prespakis, Bates and Conti have all won it before. Nanscawen a 2x VFLW B&F winner.

As usual it's more a matter of who's not high up there which raises eyebrows. Particularly in AFLW where we are yet to have a random one-season wonder win it.

Aside from Claudia Whitfort last year (who is still young) and Courtney Gum in 2018 (who was old) every player to make the podium in 9 seasons has been a longtime standout.

Marinoff is the deserved winner, but I'm very confused how someone who averaged 26 disposals, 6 clearances and a goal a game is not right up there.

Good day for South Australian talent with Scholz winning the rising star and MOTY, Munyard winning GOTY, and Marinoff winning the league MVP.

Meanwhile we have now gone past the point where the completely disregard of Garner every year was kind of funny and now it's just plain baffling.

This year I think Nanscawen and McCarthy will wildly exceed votes given by the AFL website, based on the AFLW umpires' time-honoured creed: if in doubt, go with the blonde or long-sleeve-wearer.
Only half true. McCarthy picked up just the 10.

But the blonde rule still holds up pretty well. As seen with Gabbi Featherston getting a vote for her 5-disposal, 4-hitout game in R2. And with some real generous votes to Brea Moody, Taylor Smith and Paige Trudgeon.

Trudgeon might've been another case of mistaken identity though (presumably with Serene Watson).

Of most interest in the AFLPA MVP nominations:

Brisbane nominated Charlotte Mullins. Ahead of, most surprisingly, Sophie Conway.

Abbie McKay nominated by Carlton. The real surprise occurred last night when she was not one of the five Blues to get at least one B&F vote.

Crockett-Grills (played 10 games) over G.Prespakis (9 games) and Bowen (11 games) is a bit of a surprise.

GWS not nominating Goldsworthy is noteworthy.

Kate Shierlaw missed 2 games, but it was Mia King who missed out on the nomination.

Jesse Wardlaw not top 3 for the Saints.

And West Coast went with Beth Schilling over Charlotte Thomas.

Below is the complete 2017-2023 leaderboard for the League B&F. 260 players have polled 1 vote or more. I think it's correct, there might be some mistakes...

I do think other mids where more impactful than Conti but once again

I think players should be picked for the positions they play well in with the same approach as though selecting to vs another team ie
Wings for that position, lockdown def on small fwds etc…
With those fwds selected if Olaughlin is fwd with Gilroy for example, those selected Defenders wouldn’t be able to deal with them.
I love Randall, but she’d blow up chasing Gilroy….annoys me.

And on Conti, probably shows the Tigers Coaching dept isn’t making the most of its strengths and needs more of them.

of those 5 disposals only 1 was effective. Jasmine Garner 33 disposals apparently not enough to nudge out Featherstone.

Didn't release the vote breakdowns unlike previous years. But like previous years, or most of them, the players have simply closely echoed prevailing media narratives.

The biggest surprise imo is an injured Kearney sneaking a top 5 place in the captains category, having always been overlooked previously while putting in top notch seasons.

Bit surprised not to see Rowbottom in that list.

*I think she’s on 61 votes…?
