What’s that line from Draft Day “Every Year Someone Comes Out of This Looking Like a Donkey”

Tonight, it’s us.
And maybe some other years as well, although I think Richmond and North are worse.
I think the big winner could be the Richmond 2004 list manager. His selections might prove better than the 2024 list manager.

After reading the rookie me central information about Angove, there's no doubt he's the type of player we want in our team, but again, the value we gave up for him is going to way on this pick hard.
Kingsley has a really clear vision for the way we play. It’s the Richmond manic fast way and you just load up on these types.

I don't have any issue with taking players that fit the brief but you still have to assess value both now and into the future.

North are going to be at best a middling team but most likely a bottom 4 team again in 2025. Even if next years draft is average that would either be a very good pick or great currency to do other things.

Anyway that’s enough negativity from me for tonight hooroo!

Really seems like Kingsley is a lot more hands-on then Cameron ever was with draft selections.

I guess not all clubs would have had the same offer.
North might have asked for our F1, not F2 to go with pick 24.
Seems like a selfish pick from Caruso, also they don't want to look bad by taking a tall who possibly forces another existing player to leave.

Yeah surprised we didn't take Shanahan and pick this guy at our 30's pick
Either that or trade back.
That guy will still be there.
I think Caruso picks them in the order he rates them rather than being cute thinking the next guy will be there later.
Last year he could have picked Leake and Gothard the other way round and kept the second rounder we picked up.

Why the fu*k did we not do that deal which Richmond just completed with Nth, these guys are morons.

This is criminal management considering we had 3 picks and our 3rd could have gone much later.

I just think these guys get too caught up in operating in a different economy. Value is value, Nth’s first for 24 would have been a gift.
Our second isn't as valuable as Richmond's, North probably wouldn't do it.
We were on the phone before our pick.
I assume willing to trade.
Perhaps down rather than out of the draft with the pick.

I don't think so.
Oliver and Hannaford are highly touted and suit us.
Just because a pick is unexpected doesn't make it a bad pick. We have to wait for that.
I recall people bagging the the 2022 draft and how we got played.
That draft is starting to look really good for us.

Yeah seems really quite insane that we didn't take the north offer. We had a pick in the 30s that we could use on the Cody bloke and I really doubt anyone else would've picked him before then (except maybe Sydney who also did something crazy) but there's no way not letting Sydney get him is worth more than a F1 from North. There has to be more to the story right? But I genuinely cannot think of any reason why
I reckon North was offering first round pick swaps for us and Sydney

It is , but who knows. We pick Sheazel we might have won the flag this year. We could have Sheazel, Caddy. Cadman and Gothard might end up a better duo, we know on about 10 years or so.

Sheezel was considered a flight risk.
We could have picked him, he mopes and goes home and we look like idiots.
You never know what could have been, but you do what you did get which was an excellent result.

Im not bagging the players we picked, I’m bagging our strategy. We didn’t maximise the value of our selections. If we did the trade with North and still really wanted Angove we could have easily achieved that as well. It’s just a missed opportunity.

We could've picked my 70 year old dad and still not looked as ridiculous as North this year.
