Re: Adam Kennedy.

The GWS media release is ambiguous, but according to Retirements/Delistings on the AFL website, Kennedy has retired.

Sad day to lose an OG. Kenners has always been my favourite Giant.

Way back in 2013, Mrs Noodle worked for a company that was a minor sponsor & the Giants put on a bit of a do, inviting us (well, her through work) to watch a training session at the still being built Tom Wills & interact with the players after. We were standing there after the session wondering what to do next when a young Adam Kennedy came up, introduced himself, and asked us how we were going.

He bent down to our then 6 year old son, asked him his name and who his favourite player was. Young Master looked him straight in the eye & said “Tom Scully”.

Without missing a beat, or showing any disappointment that Young Master hadn’t said “you” like he probably should have, he said “Right, then let’s go find him”.

The next 10 minutes were spent with Kenners taking Young Master around, introducing him to the likes of Cal Ward & Dylan Sheil & asking after the whereabouts of Tom Scully. He briefly left us to go inside the change rooms & emerged a minute or so later with Tom Scully in tow.

He introduced our son to him “This is your biggest fan, Tom” and made sure we got pictures and chatted with us while Tom did his thing with young master. Tom was great by the way, all the players were (and still are). It’s one of the things I love about this club.

But from that moment on, Kenners was my & Mrs Noodle’s favourite Giant.

Great clubman, heart & soul player, great bloke - and underrated as a player - certainly by more than a few on here. When he was fit, he was in the 22 & deserved to be there.

150+ games is testament to that.

I for one am sad it has come to an end. I wish him well with whatever the next chapter holds.

Edit: looking at the photos we took that day Cal, Dylan & Tom all stood next to Young Master bending over slightly, arm around his shoulder - you know, typical player/kid photos - Kenners photo is different though, he’s down on one knee so he was the same height as him. Just a little difference, a little more consideration, a little more reason he is our favourite.

Great story and very sad to see him leave. There are now just 3 original Giants left (Toby, Coniglio and Ward), and I thought there was a chance that we could give him a year as a rookie given the number of our players who seem to be leaving us this year. A great loyal clubman who has only ever played AFL with us, and the very best wishes for his future after AFL.

Imagine the $$$ Callaghan will get offered
No doubt, but there's a fair chance Harry has hit a higher total - with free agents it takes one club to put the effort in to convince them to leave and then it can rapidly become an auction once that happens. With Finn or others it's usually just the former because other clubs usually have their own plans for the picks required to trade for a player.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a trigger for a 5th

You'd think losing 2 academy graduates in Cumming & Perryman, they don't want to lose a third. Even if he's a role player. But they also don't want to pay too much or have too long a contract from their original plans. Tricky.

To me it's just a case of the market setting the price and seems we have had to act accordingly.

I'm actually a little surprised there's so much interest in JP. He's a solid citizen who's definitely up to the level of senior footy, but we're not talking about the next Bont, Cripps or Daicos here.

I hope the club doesn't flinch. I'd like him to stay but not for crazy money that hampers our salary cap down the line.

If the Perryman deal is 900k that's band 1 comp locked in.

Peatling is interesting. I agree he's a solid player but we really can't afford to spend too much cash on guys like this if it hampers our ability to hold Finn and Cadman.
I wonder what the pick in return would be? Adelaide surely don't have enough ATM for us to want to do a deal.

I'm surprised at the interest too. He'd been solid for most of the year, but hadn't locked a spot away when Cogs and Kelly were available, so while he'd clearly be good depth for any club, some of the speculated $$$ thrown around seem high (like Perryman's figures). But losing other players has - IMHO - put a bigger emphasis on retaining him from the club's perspective: there's now a political/strategic imperative to retain an academy graduate. We need to be circumspect, of course, but I suspect we'll go beyond what we were initially comfortable in terms of $$/years to attempt to retain him.

What pick would you value Peatling at? Adelaide has #25 - although pushed back after FA compo picks come in, plus father/son and academy selections, likely to be around #30. Do you expect more for him - which would be early second round or late first round territory? Yes, they also need to deal with Melbourne for ANB, and they'd presumably want that pick at least.

The $$$ and contract length that is being thrown around how about a future 1st and give a 2nd round pick back (or something else) this year 🤷‍♂️

Be good to death ride them next year

We certainly shouldn't pay crazy money. But when it's comes to a west Sydney local we should be prepared to pay what's reasonable or slightly above to keep a Sydney local who is one of only two west Sydney guys who have been AFL standard since the birth of the club.
