Horrible trade if we do that
I think 8,47, f3, for 16,21 f2 is a fairer trade, but I hope we do better than that. It depends are we driving it, or are they.

They get who they want at 7 ahead of us at 8.
16,21 is 100 points ahead of 8,47 after bids that widens considerably.
Also f3 f2 swap means a guaranteed pick swap in their favour for 2025.

How do we think a trade looks.
8,32 for 15,16,21 according to their board.
Surely not.
I would rather do 16,37 for F1,62 with North.
No chance we trade 3 first rounders for 8.

There are plenty of options for GWS to be involved in pick trades this year; I just hope that if they do one it's reasonable.

I think it will be a straightforward one (if it occurs):
  • with Saints, around their #8 for our 15 & 16
  • with Melbourne, around their #9 for our 15 & 16 (Demons have been suspiciously quiet ... they always seem to make bold trades, and I would not be surprised if they manoeuvred for Norths #2 pick)
  • with Eagles, Port or Freo, who want a tall and would be happy to get an extra pick off us to slide down a few spots
  • a straight swap into a F1.
I'm still big on Xavier Lindsay and Harrison Oliver, close to the two best kicks in the draft. We've got the speedsters; what we need to add is some class.

I know that these are just puff pieces that afl.com.au do each year, but this one's interesting. Hugh Boxshall is definitely likely to go later in the draft, and isn't "notable" except for some good (though not outstanding IMHO) results in the WA state combine - and I don't mean that disrespectfully to the lad, but being realistic.

However, I just wonder whether he might be the kind of lad that Adrian Caruso looks at with #37 (if that's still live) ... gives me vibes similar to Joe Fonti from last year.

WESTERN Australian midfielder Hugh Boxshall is shaping as this year's draft bolter after pushing aside the disappointment of missing an invite to the national Combine and finding another way to put his name up in lights.

A big-bodied midfielder in the mould of Elliot Yeo, Boxshall's season had been interrupted by untimely injuries, but the teenager still believed he had done enough to earn a chance to showcase his physical attributes on the national stage. Gutted to just miss out, he dusted himself off and instead produced an outstanding performance at the WA State Combine to rank top five nationally in the 2km time trial (No.2), agility test (No.3), standing vertical jump (No.2) and running vertical jump (No.4).

Boxshall's Combine performance came after a patch of excellent form late in the year with Claremont's colts team, culminating in 30 disposals in the premiership-winning Tigers' Grand Final against Swan Districts. "I played as an intercepting half-back all my junior years, and then all of a sudden this year I've just kind of tried the new role early in the season to go into midfield and I really liked it and I flourished in that role," Boxshall said. "I always wanted to play in the midfield and I felt like I had it, but my colts coach got me in there and also said at that stage in the pre-season, 'I reckon we can get you into the state team'. Off that form in the midfield, I got selected and played a couple of good games and then returned from state and played a couple of good games as well. So that's kind of where it came from."

Through Boxshall's form late in the year and his combination with co-captains Hamish Davis and Austin Van Der Struyf, the Tigers midfield turned from an Achilles heel into one of the competition's weapons.

What we need is an extractor and a connector and both need to have composure. I’m sick of seeing our blokes trying to do things 1000 miles an hour and then fumbling and screwing it up.

We need composure, clean hands, and good foot skills, a person that can feed the stars.

We also need somebody that puts his head over the ball and gets clearances, a person that takes some pressure off Tom Green.

The rest we have.

Friendly reminder that Rowston is a very strong clearance player.

GP he was a talented junior and has shown it sometimes in the twos but he never showed anything in 1sts particularly at clearance.

That is not to say I disagree but he first needs to have a big pre season and stay non-injured but even then we need more depth.

If you only have one elite bull the oppo can disarm you by tagging him out, you need multiple options and blokes like Kelly and Callaghan are frankly more silk than grunt. We need grunt players.

I agree and the annoying thing is there were a few decent ones getting around for cheap in the off season.

Wonder if Leake overtakes him in 2025

Big internal wraps on both and there is a spot up for grabs
I dont think it is an either/or situation. They are talking up both of them quite alot.

From what I've seen Rowston certainly has the intensity and tackling ability to be a weapon in the middle. Love to see him get his hands to the ball first in the 1s more.
Struggled big time with injury this year so I'm expecting him to break out next year.
