Yes, that's interesting.

And I personally like Lindsay and think he would be a good fit.

So, is Caruso not interested, or has he managed to hide any interest in him?
I was thinking about this and this is my logic (crucify me if you want!).

We do like Lindsay and he’s a very good fit for needs but in terms of trading up to say Pick 8 (not considering Academy/Next Gen bids) we don’t have him as highly as Trevaglia who is our highest rated player in that part of draft.

Then if we hold we don’t expect him to last until our first natural selections if we sit? Perhaps also we are not prepared to yield a pick to move slightly up to get him?

This is all a whole lot of guessing but just trying to piece it together given we must have shown a decent level of interest in him for so much speculation.

To me Berry is a very good fit for needs as he has some dash, flexibility to play around ground for team needs, and shows good defensive accountability. He looks a Kingsley prototype player, as does Harry Oliver.

Trevaglia’s professionalism and elite running ability make him a no brainer.

the reason I suggested it was that 21 will become 25. So it’s a second rounder.

32 might move 1-2 spots but 47 comes in a fair bit.

So you would be winning
it is still round 1 even with the expected 3 or 4 bids. Regardless of bids, the first round ends after Richmonds pick that is currently 23.

There are 2 picks picks between 21 and 32 that will be used with bids. Our pick falls at least 9 spots. I suspect Brisbane and Essendon will trade them out and the gap will stay at 11. You are correct 47 will come in.

We do not win with that.

There is zero chance we trade all 3 first rounders for 8.

The AFL has unveiled the list of 20 promising prospects invited to the highly anticipated 2024 National Draft, set to take place November 20.

The complete list of invitees is as follows:

No Taj Hotton, Luke Trainor, Ollie Hannaford or Cooper Hynes. Interesting.

Very interesting. The Whitlock's and Shannanhan surprised me a little.
Probably good for us, someone showing interest in talls, likely to see a mid get to us.

That'd surprise me.
But what do I know.
I feel like we are well sorted for talls
To start, I do expect that we'll match any bid on Logan Smith. But he essentially just replaces Preuss as a ruck. (But with Madden rucking in VFL, Smith would spend some of his time up forward developing in VFL.)

Otherwise, I would opine that we have a slot for one additional KPP overall. If we treat Keeffe as a KPF (after all, that's where we played him in 2024, as secondary ruck in the finals), then there is a spot for one KPD. Given that Aleer and Derksen could leave next year, my personal view would be to grab a quality KPD to at least get a year under their belt.

If we consider Keeffe as a KPD, then arguably we might select a KPF. But that to me leaves the forward line pretty crowded (Hogan, Cadman, Stringer in AFL; Riccardi, Gruzewski, Smith & draftee in VFL). Plus drafting a KPF and having recruited Stringer would likely indicate to Ricca and Gru that it's time to bail next year. But it may be that we view one of the KPFs too valuable to pass up when we have 3 picks in the vicinity, so a case of "best available selection". It probably helps that Jobe Shanahan is actually from NSW, and the Whitlocks are from Murray, so at least country Victoria and near the NSW southern border.

I am surprised at Taj Hotton's absence. I would have thought that it he gets through to our pick we would likely select him.

Trainor slipping due to concerns about his head knocks; Hannaford a bit of a bolter; Hynes was early second round in most mock drafts could be all borderline for the first round, so perhaps AFL playing safe and not wanting to invite them in case no club called their name. And perhaps playing safe with Taj too, given his ACL may scare off some clubs.

Maybe we selected Lindsay to sneak to us (fingers crossed) or we expect to trade up.
Agree on Smith, we'll match.
As outlined, feel we are good.
Madden is probably a ruck/forward as well.

Do you think with Hotton the fact it was non-contact ACL and that his brother has been an injury train wreck might be scaring off the clubs in a very good draft?

The wraps on him are enormous, Matty Lloyd loves him.
Yes. And apparently at one stage didn't want to leave Victoria, so is less attractive to interstate clubs (who hold a swathe of picks in the teens).

Supposedly softened that non-interstate stance - possibly seeing his brother delisted so early, or just some maturity gained from dealing with injury.

Can't tell for sure until the ND.

Yes, but even if you played each one 50% ruck, 25% forward, 25% resting, that's a full forward spot that Smith needs to sit in.

We may just accept that friction on the VFL team as the cost of selecting a KPF if we like Shanahan or Whitlock.
Brisbane has played three rucks in different positions in our reserves because we almost always carry a senior ruck, a backup ruck, a developing ruck and a rookie and have for years. It can be tough for the younger kids because they might not get the gametime they need/expect but it's only reserves. Plus rucks always seem to be injured because of the nature of their bodies and the position.

Are we not a little surprised we haven’t yet brought in at least one senior ruck as cover or are we satisfied Madden is ready to step up?

Keeffe did really well at the tap and has some super attributes (tough/good tank) however his lack of mobility and heinous kicking for goal are problematic.

I feel like the oppo were over the moon when he was marking inside 50. It makes him nearly a liability in attack where they just let him roam free hoping he takes the shot.

Madden had a really good reserves year. If we think he's good enough for a handful of seniors games then that's about the same we'd expect/hope for from a more experienced backup ruck, and they'd probably demand a higher wage given the change of scene required.

Gotta hope Riccardi and Gruz back themselves to keep/get their spot over Stringer. Totally a mentality thing....they aren't gonna succeed at another club just trying to find a spare spot.
Stringer could be a bust for us.

No that I am any way an expert or inside knowledge but I think a lot of live trading of picks will happen on th enight as clubs see where players are falling and opportunities will present based on this. Norths #2 may go beforehand as North and Demons or Tigers work out where their top players are on others draft boards

I would like the club to use the future 1st with either #15 or #16 to move up with with Saints or Tigers if they have a player lower ranked but other clubs will be in the same boat. (Hope to Gazump the Swans if they are looking to move up

If the club does manage move up likely targets would be Travaglia or Lindsay and most have TT higher and without all the info it could be either and I dont see either falling to #15. Murphy Reid an outsider if the club moves up

ESPN latest rankings

If the club manages to keep its #37 a few have mentioned, more on a needs basis and not sure how ready he is for senior footy but an injury free run and a few standout games and in the back half of the year he could step up

42. Angus Clarke
Glenelg/South Australia
DEF, 188cm
2024 Champs: 4 games, 17.0 disposals, 3.2 marks, 1.5 tackles
SANFL U18s: 10 games, 16.7 disposals, 4.9 marks, 2.4 tackles

Clarke has the size, athletic profile and confidence to impact early on at senior level. His championships put his name in the second round frame and it looks like sticking on draft night, where clubs are keen to draft the next running defender that can lock down defensively. Clarke travels four hours for training and games after being jettisoned into the elite talent pathways.

Best traits similar to: Mason Redman

I am too iffy on Taj Hotton with the injury and potential go home factor and others around the clubs pikcs are more forward half players that i dont see as a need for the club and in terms of the talls Shanahan is the one that I like the most and he is likely to be available at #15 or #16

5 or 6 more sleeps until draft night?

I know it must seems like it is asked every 2nd day but the club has 4-6 main list spots and 2 rookie spots? Paton from Saints and Bell from the academy. I actually thought if the club wanted another experienced defender Bonner ex Port and Saints would be an option but he may not fit the club and also available list spots

Im suggesting we dont need to pick another tall at all. Especially a forward. I reckon we are all set there.
I could probably reason a tall back.

I think they are very comfortable that Madden will be good enough in the near term and Keefe is there for insurance only for this season.
Obviously we will match on Smith as well

Yes. 4 to 6 main list spots, allowing us to take 6 picks to the ND. Allowing for re-drafting Keeffe/Fahey/Wehr in the rookie draft, we take 4 ND + 2 extra rookie picks, 5 ND + 1 extra rookie, or 6 ND and no extra rookies.
