Wow. That's a name I haven't heard in a whileWardius has for sure.
Don’t forget about Fonti.Draft is over and onto season 2025 and hoping to get career best seasons from several of the senior players (Hogan and Briggs 2024 career best seasons, not sure on others maybe Bedford and Green). Kelly and Coniglio will be hoping for injury free years.
From the draft I think only 2 in Oliver and Hannaford could put hands up for debuts but Thomas this year was a surprise and on top of Leake to debut and Fonti and Rowston hoping to get more game time I can see the club fielding several players under 20 games and under 22 age so to those senior players will need to have injury free years for the club to improve on 2024
I will back the recruiting team as they have all the info but I though Paton would have been picked up for the experience and mature body but maybe the Swans offered a better deal/prospects and he told the club no thanks even though they could have picked him in the rookie draft so interesting to see how he goes
Angus Clarke from SA was the other I though they would pick even with the Oliver pick I could see a spot opening up in 3 years time when they have both developed or sooner if Whitfield or Ash plays up the ground
Plenty of options for the sub spot for the younger players and also the 7th defender spot if Stone does have a big pre-season I think he has the skills and size and being a 5th year player it is this year or he will be traded to Essendon where he can still catch the last of the European summers in September for the rest of his career
Gothard before Muff?Yeah it's now or never for Stone. Spots there to grab....he had a good run at it in the VFL and played it well.
He will only be keeping 1st and 2nd year players out of the team.
Still think there is a wing spot up for grabs. Love a first year player to have a Darcy Wilson year but it's unlikely. On the other hand does Callum Brown have the skills to play out on a wing....he's got the pace and athleticism...
Harvey Thomas did well this year but I'd imagine Gothard will bob up.
Himmelberg Taylor Buckley
Ash Idun Whitfield
Kelly Briggs Green
Callaghan Cogs Bedford
Daniels Greene Gothard
Stringer Hogan Cadman
Jones Ward Stone Leake(?)
Sub
McMullin/XO
Muff first but The goatherder could win that spotGothard before Muff?
Although there are clear standouts in certain positions, it feels like there is more competition for 6-8 spots than we've had for several years. Good motivation to smash the pre-season and we can get a couple of surprises in round 1.Draft is over and onto season 2025 and hoping to get career best seasons from several of the senior players (Hogan and Briggs 2024 career best seasons, not sure on others maybe Bedford and Green). They sort of always look huge now just going back into training as they probably haven’t run quite as much, but they tone down by the time the season starts. That said Jones noticeably bigger….he’s going to be a superstar.Jones and Snooze looked like they've bulked up in that ishowspeed vid.
Interestingly, zerohanger reckons Jack Ough is from NSW ... Wentworth District Football & Netball Club. I suspect he's actually from the Victorian side, but it would be nice if anyone could confirm his actual hometown.
6 or 7 NSW/ACT versus 4 Queensland, albeit Queensland seems to be producing the higher quality draftees.

Very interesting insight into how Caruso thinks.Inside the Draft: Night One Strategy Meeting

I just wonder if he's from a small town just on The Victorian side of the border. Otherwise, why wouldn't he have been in the NSW team for U18 Champs, like Shanahan was? Can't confirm it but he has played all his juniors at Wentworth District. The club plays at Dareton, I was there a few months ago. Pretty much a farming area, a few vineyards, most people probably go there for the golf course. Seemed like a mostly indigenous community. Was at least a 20-30 minute drive from Mildura and I'm pretty sure Gol Gol still have a club so it would seem unusual to drive out there from Mildura to play. Like Jacob Hopper, he moved for a St Pat's scholarship.
I don't know, seems likely unless the whole family moved to Ballarat as well. Brander was originally from Wentworth, then went to Geelong Grammar and played for NSW.I just wonder if he's from a small town just on The Victorian side of the border. Wasn't Brander the one we lost because his parents had a house either side of the border and then the AFL decided the Victorian one was their main residence?I don't know, seems likely unless the whole family moved to Ballarat as well. Hmmm, it does seem a bit explanatory, and "too perfect" doesn't it?Does anybody else suspect these ''before the draft' videos are actually filmed 'after the draft'? Every year you watch, everything appears to just work out perfectly. I've seen other clubs videos like this and been a bit suspicious of them too .
Yes, I think it was something dodgy like that.Wasn't Brander the one we lost because his parents had a house either side of the border and then the AFL decided the Victorian one was their main residence?
Love his potential.Muff could explode next year. He’s the kind of player that really thrives on getting several preseasons under his belt. He’s very powerful and strong in the contest and has slowly built his repeat running… I’ll be keen to see how he looks next year

His aunt Hannah Priest who plays for saints in the aflw is originally from Mildura. So make of that what you will.I just wonder if he's from a small town just on The Victorian side of the border. Otherwise, why wouldn't he have been in the NSW team for U18 Champs, like Shanahan was?
Yes, not unexpected that there would be family members in the same locale. No guarantee that they'd be the same side of the border ... but it's probably more than less likely. His aunt Hannah Priest who plays for saints in the aflw is originally from Mildura. So make of that what you will.
