Sorry, I should rephrase. I can't see pick 33 and a F1 moving us too far up the draft board in a highly toughted draft where hawthorn is tipped to do well next year.
Whatever moves we r going to make would already be discussed with the other parties. If we pull the trigger the deal is most likely sorted

If pick buying and trading picks two years ahead are definitely locked in for next year... That really changes the landscape for moving up.
I wonder whether inflation will play a part.

Buyers will be seen as having more 'cash', so sellers will set higher prices.

How many teams are going to get themselves into cap trouble like the suns and have to sell a pick for $$.

I can’t see teams giving up good picks for cap space. Especially when there will be a number of teams willing to trade for a pick.

It won’t be like the Bowes’ scenario where the suns had to deal with Geelong.

I was told late last night that it's "highly unlikely" we'll be doing a pick swap. This by the same guy who told me about Barrass and Battle so I reckon he knows his stuff being at the club.

He reckons we've put out feelers but unless we get an extraordinary deal we'll be keeping our picks and going with 33.
Take it as you will, a few days will tell.

This feels right to me. The apparent cost to trade up just doesnt match the talent gap from 33 to ~pick 20 in an even draft.

This. Exactly why it never made sense how easily many were getting trapped into thinking that teams need to add a F1 to 30's pick to get to picks 18-24 ( they will be 21- 28)

F1 by themselves for those picks make sense but makes no sense when you are adding 33 which would get you a similar player, just less options. F2+33 is more sensible, sure the sellers will demand more and we ask them to take a hike.

I am in the keep F1 camp but also we have simple ways to move to 27 or 28 if we(list management team) put in the work, won't cost much but many here seem to think pick 33 is > than Pick 27/28 as well.

Its a sellers market in the mid teens to pick 30ish.

Hopefully this is how it pans out as I am looking forward to death riding the Baggers all season

Hope we're working hard behind the scenes to sneak up the board to Lions #27 or Dons #28/31.. these would cost us very little (#33 and steak knives) and could become nice assets early on night 2 if there's some good players left over from the 1st round!

A pick trade is probably unlikely unless someone we really value is still available after a while on draft night e.g Weddle

It's the 'steak knives' bit that concerns me. Why give up anything to jump from 33 to 27? Unless there's a player we desperately want - and I don't think there's a Weddle this year - then why even consider it?
Stick with 33. If we get a Godfather deal for the mid-teens fine but otherwise stick with 33.

Edit: Just on what I said about a player we desperately want, I know there's at least two players were pretty keen on, but desperate to get them, no.

It would be 'steak knives' because the picks will be traded by Lions/Dons before the bids come for Ashcroft and Kako.. But the difference between what someone might offer us whilst on the clock on night 2 at #27 vs. #33 could be significant.. given we expect Richmond will get offered future 1sts for #24..

Essentially i'm saying we should bundle #33 and F4/ later pick to get #27, then try to turn that into a late F1/ early F2 or just take a player we really really like..

Hope this makes sense
