Of cats top 10 at the BnF last night four were 32 years plus (one has retired) and 2 others are turning 31 early next season. Plus Tom Atkins came 2nd and Zach Guthrie finished 4th. I think they will drop way back next year.

Geelong to bounce back. Essendon to be in the top 4 for half the year but sh*t the bed on the home straight and miss out altogether. Saints the big improvers to make the prelim. Melbourne another straight sets exit. Brisbane another prelim loss. Collingwood v Carlton Grand final. Pies win by 64 points.

I can see Hawthorn finishing lower than they did this year.

Considering the late season improvement, what's makes you say that?

For context, I can see us finishing anywhere from 9th to 15th, but that higher range relies on more internal improvement from the likes of Ward, MacDonald, McKenzie, Reeves and Butler for example.

Finishing lower than 16th next year would mean something has gone pretty wrong I would have thought.

I honestly think Hawthorn played above themselves this year. Brilliant wins against both grand finalists, which were crackign results, but i just think there needs to be a bit more draft rebuilding to occur.

The names you have mentioned there are a couple of years away from impacting on a weekly basis.

Bookmakers have you bottom 4
.....and I highly doubt it. Some bookies also had GWS bottom 4 this year and all had Geelong flag favorite.

Pretty hard to make any proper judgements when your coach quits mid-season and replaced him with a carbon copy caretaker. I expect a decent bounce with a new coach and system and with games no longer gifted to some of the old firm. We shall see....

What makes the lions drop off so much? Not having a go. Just curious.

As the poster i replied to - who pointed out their is allways a surprise downwards - and this time last last year - everyone had Geel as a lock for top 4 - yet they finished 12th

The other one i left out - Carlton - ive seen champion Blues teams - but their current team is nothing to write home about - they could win 15-16 games - or they might win 10-11 - not sold on them at all - the Swans had them on the rack in the last qtr of that 1st final - and then the Demons should have won by 5-6 goals bar atrocious kicknig for goal

As they say - you cant tip them all - you have to settle on 8

You’re about to lose your only key defender, all the high picks in the world aren’t going to make you improve drastically next year. And west coasts list is a steaming pile of turd that’s a couple of years off becoming decent. If we finish below you two I’d be extremely worried

With all these people having Richmond in the bottom 4, I'm just checking if we have any draft picks next year?

We still have a bit of talent whether we go up or down depends on how our youth react to the new coach, I'm still hopeful for one more dead cat bounce

New coach no longer gifting games to the old firm can mean starting on a mini rebuild - if the kids are handed the keys then yes it is possible bottom 4.

Trying to have the likes of Sonsie, Young, Miller, Ryan, Trezise, Dow, Gibcus, Bauer, Maurice & Banks all getting regular games only has 1 inevitable outcome (in the short term).

Playing the old firm and having older players hang on by fingernails to their positions is going to lessen the short term pain and is a better chance of a finals hope.

If I’m Richmond though I’m seeing the likes of Grimes (should have gone this year), Pickett, McIntosh & Graham out as they’ve all dropped off their flag form, but they are still all senior role players who make less team mistakes than kids.

There's always a team that makes top 4 from outside the 8.

The kids in line for a game aren't 18 or 19 year olds though. They're 21 plus and ready to impact.

Agree about Grimes, he was a liability at times this year. McIntosh and Pickett should be depth, Graham borderline. On their 2023 form we have upgrades for them ready to go.

You say this as though you expect Stewart and Cameron to steeply decline next season. Hawkins and Dangerfield near the bottom of the top 10 could decline a little. Smith was burnt out. Blicavs was a later starter and we get Guthrie back. Plenty in the 11-18 zone are fairly young and could be expected to bounce back to something near 2022 form.

5. 30
6. 32
7. 25
8. 33
9. 35
10. 34

8, 9 and 10 were old but the 7 above them were a pretty solid mix. Players don't all just fall off a cliff at 30 anymore.
