Owies deficiencies are his ball use and his pressure being a bit less than our other options.

He's the best at contributing scoreboard pressure.

Thoughts on Menegola as DFA - senior body for the VFL and could fill a need with injuries?

27 touches in his last game round 24.
Yes, would love to see it. Experience from a winning club. Should have been a higher priority over the last few years. An afterthought is better than nothing.

The bloke played 1 game last season and 7 in 2022.

Was a very good winger for 3-4 years before that. Combination of injury and form have kept him off in last couple of years. 32 before next season starts and cooked, what could he possibly do for us?

We are no longer a team struggling with depth or even experience. Posters need to realise we are now in the top echelon. We need to make incremental improvement and plan for the future.

If he could get on the park, is Menegola replacing Acres, Hollands, Docherty, Cottrell or keeping Binns without opportunity in the twos?

We are no longer in the doldrums struggling for any minuscule advance. Real SUSTAINED improvement is critical, wasting picks on aged non-entities does not achieve that.

Really depends on the upside and team needs. A strong Geelong side picked up an old Isaac Smith.

Sam Menegola? Turns 32 before next season starts. Couldn't get a game in a team that finished 9 places below us on the ladder and we have about 5 players who play the wing better than him?

Hmmmmmm. Let me think about that for a while and get back to you.

Isaac Smith gave Geelong something that they didn't have and became best 22 right away

Surely you are not equating Sam menegola with Isaac Smith?
No, that's poor interpretation if you think so.

All I said is not to discount an older player. If they have upside and fill a team need then they could be worth a flyer.

Now I don't think wing is a hole for us anymore. But if an older small forward became available I'd seriously consider it.

I think that Austin is more than happy to seek older options if they are the right fit. Acres is a good example and has been a great success and gives Hollands, Binns and soon the campo boys cover for the next couple of years and also shows them what is required to play the position well and in a professional manner.

I'd love for us to look at both Sam Simpson and Patrick Voss as DFA's.

Voss is 194cm, I've watched him play in the VFL in person and he is seriously impressive. He would be a great third tall option good for a goal a game-ish in the AFL and serve as an offensive threat preventing defenders from zoning off of Charlie/Harry.

Simpson is a 183cm creative HFF, he has beautiful goal sense and plays taller than he is. Fogarty and Martin are better than he is, but I'm not sure that Cuningham, Motlop or Durdin are currently.

Apologies if this has already been spoken about.

I agree. But we have no winners on the list. Menagola isn’t either but at least he’s been around winners for a long time. And because winning experience has been neglected by list management at this stage these are the scraps left to try and fill this need.

We already have the talent, loading more and more talent is ok. Talent will get you around the mark. But when it comes to the pointy end the game is played and decided between the ears.

So get a fringe player in we don't need because he's been in a successful team? And somehow this will influence our players between their ears? Ok.

Let me get this straight.

We won 11 of our last 13 games, made a Prelim and finished 3rd for the year yet we have 'no winners on the list'

2019 NRS - Sam Walsh

2022 Brownlow Medallist - Patrick Cripps

Coleman Medallists:-
2021 Harry McKay
2022 Charlie Curnow
2023 Charlie Curnow

2023 Player of the Finals series (Gary Ayres Award) - Sam Walsh

Curious what the plan is for Jack Carroll this year. Rate him but turning 21 and still only played a handful of games.

His VFL form has been ok, but doesn't really standout.

Needs to have a dip this off season and hopefully get a string of AFL games.

He’s now next in line where Dow was, hope he can play like Dow whichever level it’s at

Isaac Smith was a massive upgrade on Menegola, took his spot, won the Normy and significantly helped the Cats to a premiership.

Happy to take a 32 year old, not Menegola though who plays wing position the vast majority of the time and is a position we have good depth in

Sam Simpson is unfort perennially injured but does get good numbers and impact when playing AFL.

How does Voss compare to B.McLaughlin?? - either could be a handy acquisition for our forwardline and additional marking presence. Hope the VFL team is at least looking.

See that Oscar McDonald could be picked up as a DFA by the Dockers. North should have been enquiring their for their KPP issues.

I reckon if we are picking up any mature age player then it’ll be someone who’s already at the club playing reserves

I'd be surprised if we don't upgrade a rookie.
Even if we can list both Irish as Cat B, if we don't make any upgrades we would have to take a 4th player (very late) in the ND, or a DFA or PSD pick.
I think we'd be much more likely to take a rookie or leave an SSP spot open.
Can’t we hold over a spot for the SSP, or even MSD?
Crozier is still uncontracted pending possible DFA.
Still no word on Wicks re-signing either (though in talks).

Highmore is about the only other candidate, or Borlase if we’re looking at defenders.
