I think his challenge is that in the role he plays, he has to hit the scoreboard. But out of those players we have who can link between midfield and forward, he is the least reliable shot for goal. I can think of a set shot in one of the finals. The ball never looked close to going through the big sticks.

My view is pretty similar to your’s, Arr0w. He had a very good second part of the year. It came after I had well and truly written him off. So he came back magnificently from what must have been some pretty significant injury. Well done to him for showing up my lack of faith.

But I would expect he will have more competition for his position from those we have on our list, and at least one of our draft picks (I’d be surprised if we don’t draft at least one player who can run through this sort of position).

If he can start kicking goals plus bring the intensity he brought in the second half of the year, I think he will be tougher to dislodge. But I could definitely foresee a situation where others might overtake him.
I wish all our players were as clean as fog.

Was very 'one touch' in the finals.

I really don’t want to “pick on Fog” he’s handy depth & tries hard. But he’s depth at best, shouldn’t be anywhere near the 22 if we are going well.
Excited that EH comes in & provides more in the middle, speed, goals & can take a grab.
Fogs position IMO is one of the biggest areas for improvement & actually a pretty simple upgrade.

I reckon if we are picking up any mature age player then it’ll be someone who’s already at the club playing reserves
Lieu looked a chance at the end of last year but his form dropped off this year.
Ramshaw played an awesome game against the bombers and looked like a great prospect with great dash from the contest, but then barely got amongst it for the rest of the seas

If we are filling spots just for the sake of it we should have kept LOB. Not a great thing to delist guys with a contract.

Need to find better best 22 forwards in terms of hitting the scoreboard if we want to take the next step imo.

Agree. While I appreciate the role Fog played this year you can't be in the side for your defensive work and nothing else. It's a weak point if we have to play him just for his pressure because nobody else can do that plus hit the scoreboard.

You don't have to kick 35 goals, but you need to do something. Close and McCreery are examples of forwards who get in the side primarily due to their defensive work but pose some offensive threat. Would love to see Durdin take on this role next year.

Fog is probably the best of the forwards at the up the ground stuff, and is the best tackler.

If he can either improve his shot on goal accuracy (currently 40%) or his goal assists he can hold his spot.

Meat and potatoes type, but you need them.

Pretty good at his centre bounces too just quietly

The bloke played 1 game last season and 7 in 2022.

Was a very good winger for 3-4 years before that. Combination of injury and form have kept him off in last couple of years. 32 before next season starts and cooked, what could he possibly do for us?

We are no longer a team struggling with depth or even experience. Posters need to realise we are now in the top echelon. We need to make incremental improvement and plan for the future.

If he could get on the park, is Menegola replacing Acres, Hollands, Docherty, Cottrell or keeping Binns without opportunity in the twos?

We are no longer in the doldrums struggling for any minuscule advance. Real SUSTAINED improvement is critical, wasting picks on aged non-entities does not achieve that.
No - hence I raised his name as the 40th man on the list. We have just lost Fisher, Dow and Curnow. Who is playing on-ball in our VFL midfield rotation? Carroll? I suppose Fogarty could find himself in there again if we are without injuries.

Carroll, maybe one of Hewett or Kennedy, maybe one or both of Cuningham and Fogarty, if Binns isn't playing seniors he might get some rotations on-ball, maybe we draft a midfielder, maybe if someone like Durdin, Owies, Cowan, etc are playing reserves then they get some rotations.

Or alternatively Fog continues to improve? Bloke has been ravaged by injury. Finally gets back and shows that he's a lot better than many think despite having no pre-season. No reason as to why he can't improve with a full pre season and a bit more confidence in his back.

He already has a quite a few attributes that our coaching panel value. I'm pretty confident that he'll fight like he'll to get better.

E.Hollands, Binns, Cuningham and Carroll who all weren’t in the best 22 by the end of last year so they are all strong possibilities.
Kemp, JSOS and Durdin all might get a run too and none played in the prelim. Another option might drop out of the 22 with Williams returning too

Fog will continue to get games until we have someone that can push him out.

Ed and Dow played 27 games between them last year.
So who is going to fill those games first? EHollands and some games from Binns, more games from OHollands?
Who do we have left (in the VFL mid) to push Fog out?
