You are all wasting your time with this back and forth discussion about rookie categories.

Can we please address the elephant in the room by finally getting to the bottom of whether or not Tom Scully is the illegitimate son of a former Carlton player or not??

Besides David Glascott's monkey, it's the best Carlton rumour I've heard!

Orazio is not a high pressure forward type, skills decent, I really don't see his x factor and he has barely played a game in last 2 years Is there something i am missing that makes him a good get???
I dont think we will be hearing BT calling his name much if at all....

You see; you use words like "outrageous" but back it up with nothing. What's outrageous about it? You say my posts are "a load of crap", but you don't rebut in any way. Haven't you already been warned about this and to do better when posting? Be careful, only a select few can get away with that... and I don't think you're one of them.

I'm here for any debate or to hear points you or anyone else would have about Austin's record as our list manager. If you were to say perhaps I'm being harsh, because the outcomes will become clearer with time... I could understand. Because he's only been here since the start of 2020. But you're just shitposting.

I'm worried about him in that role. I haven't hit the full blown panic button, but I think he is soft when push comes to shove, specifically in the trading realm. I don't take great heart from his (limited) press conferences either, where he looks like he always has tears in his eyes, he is so nervous. I also don't like our approach to PR, I think we are too honest with the media in this space and people know our intentions and hence, we have no room to bluff or play hard ball.

I think the trades he has done so far, he breaks about even. Maybe. Some gems have fallen into his lap, he made a good deal with Collingwood last year for picks, he's probably overpaid once or twice and he's made some erorrs when trading our players out; being the one to bend as I've posted about here and on the D&T board.

I'd be happy to go over it, but don't just give me what you have been. Otherwise piss off and stop quoting me. Is that fair enough?
We've assembled a top 4 list and took a punt on an injury prone yet talented DFA in a position of need. Not sure if thats really the hill to die on re Austin being good at his job or not.

Did you care to read my post or just want to go along with your own narrative? Who is dying on any hill? I'm expressing my opinion on our list manager. Why does every reply have to be so hyperbolic?

Who is it that built that list? Sure as hell wasn't Austin... he inherited most of it.

Absolutely all opinions are allow, my opinion is that some of the opinions are bizarre, especially that it was a DFA that didn't cost us a valuable and or highend pick

Just saying ... bizarre is a slightly better word than 'crap'.

Is that you SOS?

You say you are worried about him in the role, but it was a fairly outlandish claim about how he might have conducted a trade involving Fantasia if the roles were reversed. There is absolutely nothing to back that up. It does look like criticism for the sake of criticism.

You say Austin is soft when it comes to trading but then say you reckon he has broken even so far. That sounds like a pass mark to me. Trading is so subjective anyway, especially when it comes to fringe players.

You say he has inherited most of the list but that's to be expected when you've only been in the position for 3 years.

He has added Cerra, Saad, Hewett, Motlop, Hollands x 2, Cowan, Binns, Boyd, Acres, Cincotta to the side. You can't say he hasn't value added to the side.

Acres was a steal just quietly. E Hollands projects the same.

I don't see what you see in his demeanour. He has piercing eyes and doesn't look like he's nervous and about to cry to me. It's a really strange observation.

While I am promoting healthy discussion and don't want posters dismissing opinions out of hand, I'm even more strong when it comes to posting that starts to look like a negative agenda repeating itself.

Perhaps, like me, you were a fan of SOS in the role and it's hard to get past the manner of his departure? You can be a fan and still objectively praise and critique both SOS and Austin in equal measure.

You can express concerns, but the hyperbole is always going to draw extra attention.

Maybe, I could possibly overlook it if he wasn't a nervous wreck in general every time I see him.

This is from after the most recent trade period; 4 years into the job. He's gripping the table for dear life, constantly gulping and how's that nervous cough/laugh when there is silence? These aren't the traits of a confident man. I'd hate to see what how he bahaves in the throws of a tense trade situation.... I doubt it's beneficial for us.

I would love to play poker against him for piles of money.

Dustin Martin and Charlie Curnow are both renowned for being a bit camera shy and disliking the limelight.

Reckon both do just fine on the footy field despite being borderline useless in post game interviews.

You can't even see his hands. What height is the podium at? He looks relaxed as hell, almost leaning on it, turning his elbows in.

He is speaking clearly, no hint of nervousness, confident in what he's saying. You are reaching big time.

Great strawman.

Are they list managers or athletes who run around and chase a ball? Fairly different set of skills I would have thought?!

"Warren Buffett is great with money and very rich, but doesn't like Broccoli. Everyone that doesn't like Broccoli must be a billionaire".

???

Stop. It's not constructive in any way.

Keep going! Comedy gold right there

Not traits, but in regards to outcomes, you have just described every single list manager, negotiator and recruiter

No one, comes close to having an error free career

Just look at a clubs drafting success rate, lucky to hit 2 in every 3 picks, and all of them have had busts

Watching his highlights, he gets to the right places often enough to impact the scoreboard and he also has great speed in getting boot to ball which is a terrific trait for a forward. Is it an X factor? I don’t know, but not a lot of players do it regularly.

He also instinctively knows where the goals are like Charlie and Mots, so when he puts the ball to boot in the blink of an eye it is on target!

As others have said, his footy talent is there it’s all about his durability!
