Why would Harry leave …. He has to agree to a trade , probably took unders .. I would say find another way if they asked me and I was Harry and what’s the reason trac want to leave … leaving a sinking ship type or scenario ??

That's hilarious....I actually don't mind Gary, but love the way he goes all gibberish when the conversation focusses on the Demons.
Interesting situation though. There's definitely smoke, and I have zero doubt a lot of it is coming straight out of Princes Park. It all boils down to how pissed off he is with the club, particularly in the wake of the aftermath with the way they handled the injuries both on game day and the weeks following. If you believe the reports, it was a massive slap to the face to both him and his family.
If he requests a trade - which seems a fait accompli right now - then Melbourne are well within their rights to deny it - or alternatively play hardball to the extreme that no club would go near it.
If he leaves the club and states he has no intention of returning, that's a different matter.

Stone isn’t a tall forward or a third tall, he’s a half forward who can work up the ground, Kemp playing forward or back shouldn’t change much here.

I’d happily part with Cerra and our first to get Petracca but I doubt there is any chance Melbourne would agree to it.
If we give up any of TDK, Charlie or Harry to get him it’ll be a club killer and we’ll be back in the dark ages once again.

According to Sam McClure, they want either Curnow or McKay. Curnow already said no, and if McKay says no, the deal falls flat.
I find it hard to believe we would put it to either player.

Cerra , one of Hewett/Acres, Carltons 1st pick for next year for Petracca & Dees 2nd rounder (Pick 25), Dees 2nd rounder for next year.
Dees midfield looked cooked for large parts of 2024. Cerra is the type of player that would thrive playing as the main mid in a team. If Oliver and Petracca go in one hit- Carlton has a bounty of decent mids eg Acres, Hewetts, Cerra, Matt Kennedys to throw up. Cerra is the decent lot of that bunch. And from all reports Im hearing if Petracca goes, the domino effect is Oliver may go as well.
Would the Blues fans sign up for that? It feels like Carltons window will be still open for the next 4-5 years with Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, H McKay, SDK, Weitering around, so why not expend a top draft pick and curtail a few of mids who arent getting the bulk time in midfield for one of the top players in the comp? Yep Trac at 29 may only have a good 4-5 year window left in my book.

According to reports, Melbourne won’t do that.
Footy Classified mentioning they want either Curnow or McKay. According to McClure, Curnow said no and the deal is dead if McKay says no. So it all falls on McKay’s decisions at this point.
They are not after picks. They are after a top player for him. Nothing stopping them going to another major Melbourne club either.

I believe in market value and Petracca is a top 10 player in the comp-when fit. McKay more a top 30 player in the comp.
Cripps can play as a tall forward in the forward line such his strong aerial ability....and Carlton would be a heck of a side in the contested ball if you had : Walsh, Cripps and Petracca in the same side. Cripps and Petracca also happen to be 29 years of age both as well. So it would be Carlton throwing all their eggs in one basket for a proper tilt at a premiership before possibly going on a few years on the decline once one or both go.

Who do you think will win the GF this year? On that team, how much $$$$ do you think is tied up in their two key forwards? I’m not sure if Sydney will win but their to key forwards would be on less than one of ours. Port the same, just looking at Brisbane, after they extended Danniher for a Further two years, he’s only on $600,000 per year.
I look back at the premiers for as long as I remember and I don’t see many having so much cap space tied up on two key forwards, that’s not to say it can’t work, but if we have huge amounts tied up on two forwards, we are thinner somewhere else.
So what’s more important, a second key forward worth $1M per season or a $1M rated mid
Geelong and Richmond did, that accounts for 3 of the last 5 flags.
A gun CHF is absolutely more important than a gun mid, given we already have 2 gun mids.
Our problem is not a lack of million dollar players.

When played as a deep forward in 2021, McKay won the Coleman medal.
When Curnow returned in 2022, McKay got pushed up the ground and into a different role (initially because Curnow was still proppy on his knee and couldn't cover the ground). Big H ended up playing a lot further from goal, running a lot more, and getting lower quality opportunities as the second forward. Had to deal with a public wringing over his goal-kicking 'yips'. Is now also having to play as a backup ruck, which you don't do to your primary forward.
If he goes to Melbourne, he gets paid to be 'the man'. Gets to play out of the goal-square, run less, get more shots, probably win another Coleman at some point.
I have no doubt he's happy at Carlton, got plenty of mates, playing finals footy and he seems a pretty easy-going bloke... but there's something here that he must think about from time to time, right?
There's more to it as well, from a Carlton perspective:
- This core group has been together 9 years, and hasn't managed a top 4 regular season finish in that time. Haven't even cracked 14 wins in a season. With Cripps now aged 29... at some point you have to say that maybe this core isn't it, and it's worth shaking it up a bit
- Curnow and McKay are both in the same draft class, as is Weitering, which means that all three of Carlton's key position players are the same age... they've peaked together, but will also all get old together... maybe not ideal to have your entire spine so close in age
It seems worth at least a thought on all sides. Given Petracca wants out, and the speed that H was thrown up right across the media... it wouldn't surprise me if multiple parties (the club, H's management, Petracca's management) are dropping this out there across a bye week to gauge how it plays. I mean, a trade this big can't just come out of the blue - you have to at least sow the seeds for fans of all teams.
All parties can always walk it back from here. Melbourne can just refuse to deal. We can laugh it off. Harry can refuse to go. If we go on another finals run, we've got a clear 'out' to walk it back with the current group. If the deal is too difficult, Petracca has 5 million reasons to stick with Melbourne. If this just ends up leverage for Melbourne to get a better deal elsewhere ("Hey Essendon... Carlton are offering a Coleman medal winning forward. We're starting this conversation with Caddy and 3 first-rounders on the table, and going from there") then it's worked out for the Demons, and maybe gives them options to start talks on something else with us (Cerra?).
Would I do it if I was the club? Hmmm... I'd at least have the conversation. I imagine Melbourne want more than just Harry straight up, and if so, that's too much for me. But we have to at least talk it through with Vossy and run some medicals on Petracca before we hang up the phone...

A gun CHF is more important than a gun mid, if you don’t already have a gun full forward.
Richmond won three premierships and their two key forwards kicked 12 goals between them across the three games, my point here is that to me it seems like most games and most finals are won by the team who wins the battle in midfield.
My point isn’t specific to million $$$$$ players, it’s that we have so much of the cap tied to two key forwards, when other teams seem to have a more even spread.

Red flags for me, I’d love him at the club but he could rip the group and culture apart if those reasons are true.

Other teams have a more even spread because they haven’t been able to find 2 gun key forwards.
Geelong and Richmond (after already winning a flag) spent huge to bring in a second gun KPF.
The Filth overpaid to bring in a very average KPF because they couldn’t find another better one.
Grand Final day is obviously hugely important to winning a flag. But we shouldn’t ignore that to even get there you generally have to make top 4. We shouldn’t underestimate how important key forwards are to that part of winning a flag.
