Obviously for Blues posters to speculate but I’d be very surprised if WCE agreed to a 3R from any club with two years remaining on his contract. Wouldn’t want to trade him but we also need draft capital that comes in before a Malakai Champion bid.
3 rounder and Carroll

Cerra - Has shown the consistency of an average midfielder, he ain’t no gun (yet)
Williams - has shown SFA at Carlton
Motlop - Has shown no consistency and lacks effort. To the extent most here would trade him. He ain’t no star player.

I agree with your summation on Walsh & Hewett… Ollie showed a bit this year in the last 4-5 weeks when he got released off the wing…
2023
Scores for from stoppage ==> 35.2 points per game (#5 in AFL)
Scores against from stoppage ==> 25.3 points per game (Least in AFL)
Score differential from stoppage ==> +10.0 points per game (#1 in AFL)

2024

Scores for from stoppage ==> 37.0 points per game (#4 in AFL)
Scores against from stoppage ==> 38.0 points per game (3rd most in AFL)
Score differential from stoppage ==> -1.0 points per game (#12 in AFL)

You can see we saw a massive drop off in our ability to defend stoppages. Considering all but two of our H+A losses were by less than 15 points this deficiency was significant in a lot of our results. The major difference between our 2023 and 2024 midfield set up was a fit Adam Cerra. People speak about his elite ball use which is a massive point of difference to our midfield but what makes him a gun to me is his defensive craft. Specifically, this relates to his ability to spread from a stoppage contest extremely effectively which is a major reason we were so good at defending stoppage in 23'. The likes of Cripps, Kennedy and Hewett all get attracted to the ball being more inside contested types and aren't able to do what Cerra can when we don't win the ball at the source. It leads to easy stoppage exits for the opposition and clean entries inside 50 which will expose any defence which we saw time and time again in 24'.

In 2023, Cerra was our number #2 clearance player, #3 groundball gets player, #4 for score involvements, #4 for tackles, and #2 for pressure acts. He is our best two way mid when healthy and getting him back to this state is extremely important to the success of our midfield group.

Player for player trades never happen. If anything we would require a pick/s to be sent back the other way for Carroll and for West Coast to cover some $$$ for Ryan existing contracted. Would essential be a salary dump for them.
Yes definitely other machinations as straight player for player swaps rarely happen but heard that would be the bones of it.

It’s definitely not a salary dump. We’re going to struggle hugely to hit the minimum 95% cap spend next year.

JSOS needs to be turned in a backman IMO. Might be too slow, but it's worth a go. I don't think he fits in to our tall forwardline. Think he could end up becoming a really great backman and it could save his career. If Rory Lobb can do it, JSOS can.

I think he can be that more modern mobile KPD. He's as tall as Collins or McCartin. Not 200cm but can play tall and won't give a forward a rest. Defensively would be great and would work well with Weitering

🤔

For what it's worth and should be taken with a grain of salt but told Carroll definitely off to the Eagles and we're interested in Liam Ryan.

Secondary to that was also told other than Carroll and Martin there is likely to be at least one other moved on, they seem to think the club is targetting someone. Source WA based and involved in player management.

Cerra definitely gettable for the right price I'm told.

Take your Carlton glasses off

Have heard Ryan for Jack carroll

Which club would give up this year's 1st in a strong draft?
Richmond, as explained by the others, but it seems Gold Coast might as well.
Currently have 6, 13, 20, (and then 2 x 2nds, 3rd, 4th currently enough points to match a bid for Lombard at #4).

According to a good poster on another board their 3 main objectives for this year are Daniel Rioli, matching Lombard, getting future points.

Will be interesting to see where JSOS fits into plans next year - will he play second ruck to TDK and Pitto misses out / will we play two rucks and JSOS is a permanent forward / will JSOS be trialled down back / will he be VFL depth.
He will Captain VFL most of the season very unlikely he will be offered a contact in 2026 seeing who is coming off contact. We would be in deep shit if we relying on him to fix our issues.
