My word on the street is that kysaiah Pickett to WA is still very real and there is no doubt that is the Pickett’s preferred option.

I would prioritise Pickett over Bolton if they're both available.

Pickett is more of a true small forward and would cause a ruckus in our forward line alongside Treacy. He's two years younger, his contract will be a lot less, and I'm concerned with Bolton's inconsistency. Bolton's form drop off this year has been huge (I don't buy into the theory, he only plays well in a winning team).

I'd hate for us to pay two first rounders in a strong draft and a massive chunk of salary for someone like Bolton who gets 10 possessions in a lot of matches. Pickett hits the scoreboard and has a massive presence in the forward line with his pressure and hardness.

How many matches is a lot?

Literally had 1 game last season under 10 possessions. 1st game of the season. Had 8 touches kicked 3 goals.

If we use a larger number, say 15 touches, he still only had 7 games with 15 touches or less. 4 of those were literally the last 4 games of the season where I’d imagine he had checked out.

Still kicked 11 goals from those 7 lower possession games.

Bolton is just as good a true small forward as the best of them. It's just that he can also genuinely play midfield. Rankine is a similar type. Due to their greater versatility, I would take those two ahead of Pickett, Stengle, Papley, Cameron. But Pickett would be perfect to compliment Bolton.

Also remember that Pickett might not be interested without Bolton first. They are cousins, and a large selling point to get Pickett would be to play with Bolton.

Pickett from 21 matches had 16 games with 15 touches or less.

They’re different players.

Both very valuable in different roles and both hit the scoreboard.

Haha - thanks for doing the research!

Clearly it was a big exaggeration, however my point is I'm concerned with giving away a lot of salary cap and draft capital (in a strong draft) for a low possession and inconsistent player. On Bolton's current contract, he could be our highest paid player which doesn't quite sit right.

I do like Bolton, and think he would be a great addition. But at the right price. We've been burnt so often in the past.

The biggest downside is Freo have been genuinely been caught a little on the back foot as the approach from Pickett’s management just happened out the blue.

The issue being Freo are now obviously been committed to Bolton, despite what is released in the media Freo has been aware of Bolton desire to return home since before the bye.

As for my source i 100% back this person in when it comes to Freo particularly around the indigenous circles.

Hectic. Would be wild to get both.

I'm not sure how being on the back foot would really matter when we have access to four first rounders and an early second.

I feel ya.

I once had a very dodgy chicken roll. Instant vomits. Was a good few years before I ever went a chicken roll again.

The moral is simple.

Never order chicken rolls if 14 year old are preparing your food.

Oh… and Bolton is a chicken roll worth buying. If it induces the vomits… well there’s always the next chicken roll.

Plus on top of that Kozzie is just a much better fit for our list imo

Warner is bloody nice and one hell of a player but hes not exactly a position of need for our list. We are stacked with mids, and Chad is an offensively minded mid who plays downhill

When we were at our best early last season we had Young playing as a defensive mid who would sweep around the back of the contest or push forward once we won the ball.

As Young developed into statistically the most damaging mid in the comp as the season went on of course his role evolved to playing a more attacking role (as it should when you have a weapon like that). Which at times later in the year left us wanting defensively in the middle as we had noone to adequately fill that role (see - Essendon game, Geelong game, Port game etc).

Chad is a great player but doesn't fill that need for us. He just skews us even more offensively oriented out of the middle. And hopefully Erasmus or even Driz can play that role for us instead

Kozzie would be a legit game changer for us. Put him and Bolton at the feet of Treacy, Amiss and Jackson and thats just plain nasty. Costs less in trade capital, and less salary too.

Cost/benefit leans his way as far as im concerned and its not particularly close

Id love both, dont get me wrong. But if its either/or im going Pickett easy
Warner does fill that need for Freo. Have you been watching the finals series? That last quarter against GWS was huge. He is exactly what Freo need and given the chance Freo would be mad not to go all chips in on him.

I'd give every pick we've got for those 2...

Convenient you say that. We can effectively offer a pick near ten and a mid teens first to each club.

If we can get a future second back from Melbourne and a future third back from Richmond it will solve the matching bid points for next year too

I think the same can be said for Kozzy

My intuition is telling me this place is pretty keen for Kozzie...
Kozzie is the elite small forward we need.

Shai is the small forward you swing through stoppage, the Switta upgrade.

Bobby is closer to Liam Ryan, flashes of brilliance but low possession and goal a game.

I was just having a laugh. He's my number 1 as well. Considering the cost and list needs, there is no WA linked player I'd rather have. Without knowing what's happening behind scenes, I don't understand why the response from the club would be anything other than "you apply the pressure, we'll get it done"

Baker all of a sudden becomes the spanner. I’d imagine the minute he selects Eagles the phone will be picked up.
The second Bolton is secured it will ramp up considerably.
