He was soft as butter and I reckon 70% of his goals came from soft frees when he was at the top of the square. or in junk time.

He also had the luck of Pav getting double teamed and he still couldn't stand up. there'd be literally no one better or a better situation to do your apprenticeship in and he just... never took the chance.

One of the most disappointing Freo Dockers of all time. I'd say he's one of the worst 100 gamers ever.

Ridiculous take. He was a rookie longshot to make it, and worked his backside off to make the most of his limited ability. His injuries are stress related due to overworking his body to give himself a chance. One of the hardest working players we have ever had. The opposite of soft. And he is not disappointing at all, considering he had no right to even play a single AFL game considering his limitations. He far exceeded expectations.

The game passed Taberner by in 2016.
Crazy how he made the AA squad in 2020 then huh.

Guy was going at close to 3 goals a game before getting injured the following year too. It’s fine to say he’s washed now but there’s really no need to rewrite history and pretend he was never a player for us.

Crazy. Just thinking about how Taberner ****ed around in our forward line for years is giving me PTSD.

It's difficult to define what constitutes a bad AFL player, but much like Justice Stewart in Jacobellis v. Ohio (1964), "I know it when I see it."

From the Herald Sun trade news from Jay Clark, Ralphy, McFarlane:

Freo’s Warner plan

Fremantle could move into the box seat for a crack at Sydney Swans superstar Chad Warner by trading one of its three first-round picks for an early pick in the 2025 draft.

The Dockers are eyeing off Warner, but will need two first-round picks in next year’s draft to pull-off what is likely to be one of the biggest trade moves of next year’s exchange period.

Justin Longmuir’s men are in a strong position to make a play for him as they have their own first-round pick in this year’s draft, plus Collingwood and Port Adelaide’s.

The long-term plan means rather than use all three top-20 selections in this year’s draft, the Dockers could move one of the top picks into next year’s draft to ensure it has at least two first-round picks in 2025 to eye-off the Swans’ jet ball-winner.

Warner, 23, has become one of the best midfielders in the game and could help catapult the Dockers into flag contention for 2026. Fremantle already has one of the best midfields in the game and will attempt to re-sign 2025 free agent Andrew Brayshaw over summer.

Warner, who is from Western Australia, would command a seven or eight-year salary in the vicinity of $1.5 million a season to head home at the end 2025.

It means Fremantle will assess likely trading partners in the lead-up to this year’s draft to see which clubs would be interested in off-loading a top pick in next year’s draft for one in 2024. Rival clubs are aware of the Dockers’ situation and will ramp-up talks at season’s end.

Essentially the same as what they speculated on their show a couple of weeks ago. But the part about "Rival clubs are aware of the Dockers’ situation and will ramp-up talks at season’s end" is a bit of new information. Seems we are likely to trade a pick back to 2025 which is good

That's all well and good but how can you guarantee who will have a top pick in 2025? The team you trade it to might spike and end up with a 10-20 pick.

To be honest it doesn't really matter imo. Out of contract is the key. Worst case scenario is you have two picks between 12-18 and then you can even throw in a future 1st on top with maybe getting a 2nd back if you really need to. If Chad nominated Freo, all of Sydney's leverage is gone when OOC and we easily have the trade currency to put together a 'fair' deal. Even 2 future years of picks trading will be opened up soon

Yeah, I did a raised eyebrow listening to that on the way in then read that from Ralph. We seem to have moved to saying it's an interesting back story to "this is happening this year or next" very quickly

Classic Silent Alarm, just wants attention, however he can get it
It has nothing to do with attention.

Freo fans have this love in with the bloke but jesus christ he was a disappointment. people rag on Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch being pussies but far out, timid Tabs wasn't far behind.

Our fan base just has little favourites and I think it's based on 'he looks like a nice guy' or 'I can recognise him cos he wear long sleeve and have headband' or... I won't say the last one but reckon it's easy to work out.

100%. Would Sydney rather get two top 10 picks for The Chad then likely three in the teens? Sure, but tough t***ies if out of contract, it's still paying a lot and not so unreasonable they can turn it down once he requests a trade

Tabs averaged 2 goals a game between 2020 to 2022.
Injuries cut him down just when he was making it. Unfortunately they look to have turned him into the player Silent Alarm thinks he was his entire career not just ruined his availability.

As a supporter of Freo I'm thankful for his efforts even if it's quite clear he'll never never get to his best again.
