Careless, medium, high. One week.
Was clearly just going for a spoil, but it got him in the neck. Neck is high. No avoiding this one.

Agree.. but query the impact part.

I know the AFL love bumping up the ratings of any high contact.

But when the person gets straight up, takes their free and doesn't even leave the field, is that not a case for low impact?

Did it get him in the neck though? Or was it the upper sternum area?

Fyfe purposely put it on a bit too, if that was a punch to the throat with anything above low impact he wouldn't have got up and taken his kick and kept playing on.

It's low impact if anything at all...

There needs to be a reportable act to apply those metrics though, so what’s the reportable act?

It’s a marking contest and unlike Wright and Bakers acts, Fog commits to the marking contest and tries to spoil with a fist, collecting Fyfe in the upper chest which then appears to go to his throat.

The still frame shot above shows Fogs fist about 50mm away from the ball and in the chest.

You can’t grade a marking contest as careless, high contact and medium impact, there needs to be a reportable offence and I’m not seeing one here

What’s the reportable offence here?

The big criticisms of Baker and Wright were they chose to turn their bodies at the last moment, collecting their opponents with a bump to the head.

Fog doesn’t turn and brace, he commits to the marking contest with a fist that tracks the ball, which is why the fist is low, his initial contact is with Fyfes chest and only missing the ball by 5cm.

Other than the optics, I’m not seeing the reportable offence here.

My thoughts here too. How many fists do we see accidentally hit the back of a forward's head with a defender attempting to spoil from behind? Happens all the time.

Based on AFL’s own definition it has to be Low Impact, pretty sure Fyfe continued to play unabated and didn’t leave the ground.

Low – Minimal or no impact on the game, and Player continues to play unabated or was able to play, and No ongoing issues.

Medium – Clearly some impact on the Player, and / or the Player left the field for a lengthy period of time, and / or some possible lower level ongoing treatments.

I understand that Fogarty's contest may have been late and high but he appeared to be playing the ball to me. Yes, he appeared to move his eyes to the player for a split second to assess positioning, but I wouldn't have thought that's inconsistent with running at a player for a spoil attempt.

If the formula says a week, then sure, but be consistent. Why do snipers like Tom Lynch do late, head-high clumsy "spoils" every second week that don't even seem to get considered by MRO?

Fair point.
I'm sure they can try to squeeze it in under striking, rough conduct or forceful front on contact.
I initially thought it got him around the collarbone, but replays and other angles made it look like the neck to me.
As for force, I can see how it fits under their guidelines for low, but I initially thought Fog might have broken his wrist and was surprised that he played on.
If they only look at the impact to the player who was struck and not the player who committed it, then he might be alright. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear that Fog has a fractured wrist, or bone bruising in the coming days and misses a game or two anyway. The shock wave through his arm was something else.

Toby Greene 2 weeks please

Carless. Low impact. Body.

They might argue that it slid up to the neck. Which would make it Carless, Low Impact, High.

Fine only.

Fogarty was actually the one worse off after the contest.

If he does get a week the club should pat him on the back and applaud him for attacking the contest like that.

CARLTON forward Lachie Fogarty has been charged with striking by the Match Review Officer.
The charge relates to a contest that occurred in the third quarter of Saturday's win over Fremantle.

The incident was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact, with a one-game suspension offered.
