Not a Markov fan but it's not pointless having him on the list. He's an AFL capable player. While we might have enough half back cover there's not too much with pace. We also have players who are flexible, so Markov could also cover for an Injured mid with another half back moving to the middle.
That all sounds nice but he can't really do all of that. He might have pace but he can't use it to any effect. His kicking and decision making is really poor. What you described is a break glass in case of emergency. I would rather we play guys like TJ and DeMattia if we have to. There's also Parker, who's going to play before Markov

I prefer him as depth to the trio of Long, Sullivan and Macrae, simply because he plays an easier less important role. He'll need to get back to 2023 standards though.

We'll have blokes who can play inside mid rotating on flanks in the AFL - if either a flanker or a mid needs replacing we can bring in Markov to replace them - shifitng someone else from a flank to inside mid if it's a mid that needs replacing.

Those 3 guys don't play defence though. You also have Ryan, DeMattia, TJ, Parker and now reef all vying for one HB role.

True, but of those guys Parker is the only one who has shown anything at AFL level. If we need to bring a bloke in for a final, it'd be Markov - hopefully that changes before the year is out though - but I wouldn't bet on it.

If we do pick up a couple of KPFs this year, we'll still need an AFL standard depth KPF on the list next year - same with all the positions.

The earlier all the FS and Academy prospects go, the further up the draft board our picks in the 50s go.

Agree, it looks like the picks in the 30's will push out as a result of the matched picks and the picks in the 50's will come in - makes the difference between a pick in the mid 30's only around 10 picks better than a pick in the 50's, hard to justify using our picks in the 50's to trade up the draft order.

If Dekka has a smokie up his sleeve for the last pick (which he will), I I think they'll try to add a couple of picks together to move up a couple of places in the draft.

Due to picks used in matching, it could be that Pick 38 will be the equivalent of Pick 43 - even then, it may only move up our Pick 52 four places. Still way too early to confidently forecast what will happen on the night, my thinking is that with the evenness of this draft, it's more likely that we'll trade up for a slider than we will for a smokie as the smokie that's outside the top 40 is more likely to stay there.

I meant if he has a smokie that no one else is likely to draft, the third pick is worthless, as he can get him with a later one.

What number they are now is a bit irrelavant, but think we'll be making offers to trade up a few spots when it's getting close to our pick - there probably won't be any takers.

I think anyone who becomes a decent AFL player at our pick is a success story. I think Joe Richards will become a success story and don't think he'll be the last Country league draftee who does.

If he becomes a solid AFL player at 26 - great. Not advocating for him, as I know nothing about him, but I do think Joe Richards was a good draft pick, thus I don't see it as an avenue that I'd cross off.

I'd be happy if we draft a country player - as tbh I think on the rare occasion we do, it'll give us a bigger hit rate than we usually get.
I think Richards will be a handy 200 game player
