Shame we are going to miss out on matt whitlock, but i guess it was the price we had to pay to get perryman
Yeah, one of the whitlocks was the hope when we still had our 2nd round pick. A shame :/ Even Jonty Faull would have been great
Well, at least there will be other talls on the board, we have to cross our fingers.

They were probably out of range anyway. Most of the swallowed matching picks will be inbetween 36 and 52. They'll probably end up only 6-8 picks apart.

Mentions:
  • Charlie Nicholls
  • Thomas Sims
  • Clancy Dennis
  • Nathaniel Sulzberger

Whereas I change my mind a bit on key forward options, I keep coming back to Clancy Dennis as the defender we need.

Reckon the Cats will be looking for talls too, so Dennis and Nicholls for me with our first two and then someone like Kennedy or the best slider.

If I am not mistaken, ollie Murphy a 200cm defender was expected to go in the early 20's in last years draft. He ended up sliding all the way to pick 41. Hopefully we get the same luck , and have someone from the early 30's slide to our spot.
Luck? What exactly has Murphy done in his zero games to date to suggest Fremantle were lucky he was available?

It was merely an example of a player who had a considerable slide. Now it has only been 1 season, so lets not pass judgement and write him of this quickly.
I was addressing the luck component of your post and you specifically suggested that “hopefully we get the same luck” so again what was lucky about Murphy’s draft position? A bunch of “draft experts” overrating his draft prospects is a pure is what it is outcome.

This draft to me screams best available and I genuinely hope we don’t take the needs path. Admittedly a lot of that is because of the angst towards our draft record with talls and I’d rather watch the world burn on here than a circle jerk over a kid because the top of his bonce measures 195-200cm.

Well said. Best available is always the way.
It has always worked for us.

I'm hoping that after matched picks, our 52 and 55 are back to back and there's just the one selection between our current Pick 55 and Pick 58. If that's the case, we may need to be a little strategic with 52, 55 to ensure that we get the player we're after at 58.

Players who can play the kpf spot - Checkers, mcstay, membrey, cox, AJ( if we rookie him again), reef

Kpd - Frampton, moore, dean

With limited list spots, think we will prioritize kpd in this year's draft and leave kpf for next year's draft.
Think we need to draft 2, Frampton and dean aren't good options to rely on if Moore gets injured.

St Kilda has also put in a nomination for Elwood Peckett, a midfielder or half-forward from the Dandenong Stingrays who also made a VFL debut for Sandringham this year.

Elwood is the son of Justin Peckett, who played 252 AFL games for the Saints from 1992 to 2006.

Collingwood, who has three picks in the 50s, and Port Adelaide are among the clubs to show interest in Peckett.

Geez did Justin Peckitt relocate to Arizona post footy?

They won't draft for year 1 needs.

Most of our picks next year will go to Tommy
Drafting KPP isn’t for the now it’s for the long term
Which most if not all of those players will be gone

can we agree that our KPD stocks is the most vulnerable position group in the entire side ? Injuries to that group can adversely affect our premiership aspirations next year.

Think needs will factor considerably in this years draft considering our objectives for next season.
I understand the bpa philosophy, and if we had first and second round picks , yes would definitely agree with that. Since our picks are in 50's , we can afford to go needs based first.

Also one of our few weaknesses is that we have the tendency to let opposition key fwds get off the chain and score in bunches against us. Injuries to frampton, dean or moore will make it that much harder for us to compete for next years premiership.

If we're drafting talls for needs, it won't be the coming season needs. It'll be future needs.

Realistically, we'll be drafting with the hope of getting a senior player who contributes 2027 onwards, and that's an early date. What are our needs then? If we draft someone who makes it, they're unlikely to play much good footy with much of our current team.

Any kpd kid we pick up in this year's draft won't be any help if Moore, Frampton or Dean get injured in 2025 anyway.

At least we would have bodies to throw at the big key fwds and not have to play someone like howe or maynard on them.

Not expecting the kpd to contribute immediately, but they would help address the lack of depth for next season.

They wouldn't be throwing some raw 18 year old kid who needs development & confidence into a situation like that.

You would be more trusting frampton/dean for depth rather than an 18 skinny kpp

There is a reason we didn't throw oscar to the wolves when we had no rucks. You can't do that when they arent ready

Seriously? You'd prefer us to play an 18 year old picked at 50 on a quality forward than play Howe or Maynard on them?
