So what. NM 2025 R1 for Houston & PA 2025 R1.

If ours in 2025 is #2 & PA's is #13 it values Houston at #12

If ours stays at #2 & PA win the flag (#18), it values Houston at #9

If ours stays at #2 & PA miss the finals (#9), it values Houston at #17

Death ride of the century.
Yes was rather boring this year with no death ride - we really need it

WTF, Sid Draper is at 9 now?

Armstrong 12
Trainor 16
Berry 17?
Tauru 18?

Bloody hell, we really need to split that first pick.

Also - Hannaford 27? Would be an absolute steal with our second rounder.

With a split pick and these rankings we could get:
- Armstrong
- and one of Berry, Trainor or Tauru
- and either Hannaford or Gerreyn.

Wonder if there’s a universe where we split 2 and our F1 in this draft, then get three first rounders plus Houston and then either Hannaford / Gerreyn / Faull / Whitlock.

Dunno exactly how it would work, but afl.com.au is reporting that we’re making a play for GC’s pick 12, and I guess Richmond is the other obvious suitor.

Be very surprised if Draper makes it to 9 and reckon trainor might slide to the second. Polar opposites for us, we need a sure thing if we hold on to our top 5 pick.

I've been saying that for quite a while but for lots of reasons. One reason if your going to do this is you must look at next years crop and ascertain, is it worth it? Question two would be, every next years crop have got two or three gun mids and people mistakenly say my god if we bring in our future first that's madness, we could be missing out on ??????. So what? If we believe we have our midfield set, that statement doesn't come into calculations, because we're getting the players we want!

Third question, with Rookie Me Central power rankings and other rankings around you can clearly see in that top 30 players, players are everywhere in rankings so while they give good insight, I'd take where they have players with a grain of salt, sure they might get some right but in reality its a wide berth to predict where players are going to go, this draft is going to come down to intel, confidence in the chosen player still being there {which in itself comes down to intel}, courage/confidence/ planning, meaning if we trade in a future first or split our pick 2 these three words will be the catalyst for such a move.

Question four, watching that questions & answers tells me a few things but as we know on draft night things can change again. these things, unless Taj Hotton, Murphy Reid or Joe Berry last to the second round we probably wont be taking them in the first round. More run from defence and although he mentioned we have some guys that can possibly do that role, he didn't rule out a defender, and if that's the case then two players stand out like the grand canyon, Tobie Travaglia and Alix Tauru, very interesting.

My last point and I could be wrong here but while a fair few of posters want two small forwards and possibly two key forwards, I doubt that happens, if tou listened to Brady and Will, we have a couple of small forwards who are tracking really good and in the key forward department we've got a couple of guys and we're looking to DEVELOP some young key forward talent. Also "FOUR OR FIVE YEARS OF ELITE TALENT, COMING THROUGH TOGETHER". Now while every year three picks must be taken at the national draft, if we do what I've said we should do, that is to trade in a future first {if we get a good pick or split our pick 2, we could do both, trust me this is the year to do it, even Brady & Will both said they were willing to do it because this draft is so deep}.

If we do this, to some peoples disappointment, we wont be worrying about who is doing what in next years draft because not only will we have our talent but our development stage will unofficially be finished, now the club wont say this as we will get three boys in next years draft but if we attack this very draft, we can get the remaining talent right here and now. ;)

The bit I don't understand is how we get proper return of our F1 if we split it.

AFL.com.au was reporting yesterday:
Carlton, Collingwood, North Melbourne and Melbourne are among the clubs with interest in the Suns' second first-round pick for this year, with Greater Western Sydney and Adelaide also among the clubs expected to look at the pick.
The second first round pick they're talking about is pick 12.
Problem is, I suspect, their most valuable first rounder, pick 6, will end up with Richmond for Rioli.
Then their next picks are 20 and 26. And they'll still need one of those for Lombard.
So realistically, not sure how we'd get much more than picks 12 and 20 from GC if they were our trading partner for F1.

Just an aside people seem to conflate power rankings with talent level and will often see a player ranked higher as more valuable. This is not true. Rankings are subjective and can at times become part of group think.
I would suggest in a draft like this an Armstrong will be drafted earlier due to position and upside and don’t expect him to make it out of the top 10.

There is no way M.Reid goes before Draper in my mind. Draper does everything better, and is far quicker and far more physical.

The overinflating of Reid is because Twomey has a hard on for him. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Reid isn't taken in the top 10, he really doesn't like contact and he is a bit one paced imo.

The "quick feet" movement in the AFL is where we have been lacking. Colby is one but Draper can be our other one. The midfield will be nicely rounded.

Take away from this for mine:

1. “Draft has lots of types” - midfielders not a priority

2. “Good draft to have multiple picks” - they will do what they can to have 3-4 top 25 picks.

3. “Picks may not end up where they are now” - Brady is going to have some fun moving things around. Backs up point 2.

4. “We feel we want to play more like how we were at the start of the year” - more attacking, sling-shotting from HB. This area and bringing new players into increase our damage from HB is a priority.

Can’t argue with any of that.

If we were to trade back and get two top 12 picks and Draper was somehow still there, I couldn’t imagine North calling out his name quick enough.

Brady said that picks will pretty much be different come draft day and even draft night picks can change again so at the moment its interesting but don't think other clubs wont want to nab one of the "6", now what they offer is another question because with picks changing quite a bit its impossible to know who will have what, but even though the guys said bringing forward our future first is an option and very likely to happen I doubt we will be just doing it for an average pick so the question is the same, the trade period we will hopefully be bringing in four players, but maybe two or three, so first things first lets see what happens at the trade period, and take it from there.

What’s the knock on Murphy Reid? He’s got the best highlights in my opinion. Clever, clever footballer which we need more of.
I'm probably on my own when it comes to criticism towards him but to me he is a bit one paced, on the smaller side (181cm), questionable defensive intensity and isn't the hardest player in this draft class.

No doubting his footy smarts and skill, but I think the skills won't end up being as efficient at the top levels when he is dealing with the bigger bodies and more physicality.

I think there'd be a few others ahead of him where you would tick the resilient, driven and competitor boxes if that's what we look for as shinboner qualities in who we are drafting. And it may be we look at somebody higher than they appear because of that.

Fagan mentioned the Lions had to draft a bit differently getting McLuggage and Berry types together to form a bond.
Perhaps we might rate a Tauru, Travaglia or Lalor a bit higher than others because of those qualities.
It will be interesting to see how we split them that's for sure.

If we split our pick & take 2 in the first round I'd be incredibly tempted to draft Taj Hotton, ACL be damned. He just looks to me to have clear best-in-draft potential, and fits our list needs perfectly. The risk is obvious, but given what Ashcroft just did I reckon the fear around maintaining athleticism is starting to look a little dated.

(Edit- imagine Harry Sheezel with Shai Bolton's athleticism...)

You want to play more like the side that was one of the worst in AFL history, getting pumped by an average of about 10 goals?

What an absolute bizarre comment from them.

I think after Flynn Perez and Brayden George we've done enough for the teenage rehab cohort

It’s a pretty clear comment I reckon. The principle is fine; the execution was abhorrent.
