Apologies, l thought he original poster was asking if we will still have the assistance package of 2 extra rookie spots going into 2025...
We do still have the 2 extra spots next year

We will either go 37-7
Or 38-6

Depending on if we pass on a 4th pick and take a rookie instead/leave a spot for ssp train ons

Just looking at Cal's latest rankings, and watched the footage of quite a few. Now I know there is going to be some meltdowns on this board IF and when we slide back from 2 and trade our futures, and the ongoing debate of what our picks are actually worth.......BUT regardless of what those picks end up being, how would people feel about landing 3 of Tauru or Smillie around 8/9, Lindsay at 16, and Shanahan at 20??? Based on Cals rankings. While the very pointy end of the draft everyone's talking about the mids jagga, fos, lalor, langford, draper etc......gee watching Lindsay's highlights there is a LOT to like, high IQ, lower's the eyes, hits targets by hand and foot, but I really like his defensive nature and tackling as well.

If they turn out good, I'll be thrilled.

3. Alix Tauru (North Melbourne)

Gippsland Power/Vic Country
Tall defender, 193cm, 16/11/2006
Talent League stats (avg): 14.5 disposals, 3.7 intercept marks, 7.3 intercept possessions
The Age’s August top 30: 19 October top 30: 3
Agility test: 8.196 seconds 20m sprint: 3 seconds 2km time trial: 6:36 minutes

This will be the draft-shaping selection. O’Sullivan, Sid Draper or Jagga Smith could go here instead, but Tauru is a wonderful fit for the Roos, who have spoken with other clubs about trading down. There is a perception that selecting the intercept defender would be a considerable reach, but he will almost certainly be snapped up in the top 10 regardless of what North decide. There is risk involved in picking Tauru, particularly this high, given his game sense is still raw, but there is genuine star quality here. He shows great courage in the way he aggressively flies for marks, and is an excellent athlete, including winning the running vertical jump at the combine.

Does anyone here reckon if we didn't trade down we'd still take Tauru?

We might reach for him at 3 after Ashcroft bid if we think he has a very high ceiling in what he can do.
I was reading an article on Smillie and a recruiter said potential is a big thing that recruiters consider.
If you're going for safe bet types then it's probably Smith or Langford, consistent high floor players.
If you're going after potential superstars with high ceilings, then it's probably Lalor, Smillie, Tauru, FOS and Draper.
Who we take if we don't trade down will be fascinating on draft night.

No way we take Tuaru with pick 2, bear in mind that this was written by Marc McGowan who was berating us for not taking Dan Curtin last year (although he's been surprisingly quiet about that of late). It's just him doubling down saying we need to take a defender. It sets him up well for post draft, if we take Tauru he can write his “I told you so” article and we we take a mid he can reuse his “North have too many mids” article form last year.

To be fair to Marc, if we hold pick 2 and use it on an meh mid (everyone in this draft), I will impersonate a cleaner and empty out both Will and Brady's offices myself.

Better be prepared mate. If we don’t trade it we will be picking a mid. We need all the class we can get. 2 10+ goal drubbings for the last 2 rounds showed that. We are a fair way off complete in the midfield. I do hope we end up with a deal we like for 2, but ya never know.

People keep saying this as though the midfield is all important and can only be filled with top 5 picks. We have more of these than any team ever has, we aren't going that well, yet some think we still need more. I don't get it. Geelong and Hawthorn did well this year. Check out who they had in their midfields.

Name me the 6 blokes in Geelong’s 23 who you don’t really trust with the ball by foot.
I’ll wait.
*Ya can’t have Danger, he runs and carries the ball further than 8 of our blokes can kick it.

Not sure the relevance of the question. Geelong have a well balanced team. I'm suggesting that compared to us Geelong, and many top teams, have invested very little in their midfield. They have spread their assets across the field. We seem to have this idea that we must have a perfect midfield before we can invest anywhere else.
