I keep reading comments like this, and they read like attempts to justify or cope with the corner we have painted overselves into.

The top mids this year aren't amazing and we don't need more top mids anyway. As everyone keeps saying, this draft doesn't have a great top end but runs deep. It is the perfect draft for us to address the obvious holes in our list. We need tall and small forwards, and players that can run all day.

We started with picks 2, 24, 44, and all our future picks. Whilst our F1 should be off limits, shuffling the rest into three good picks whilst trading in a couple of players who weren't in their club's long-term plans should have been a doddle. Yet somehow we look further away from achieving that than where we started.

Im sick of losing, daniel and parker fill a greater need.

He said saints have offered us 7 and f1, and we’ve also been offered some unexplained mega deal where port gets pick 10.

Hence the scenarios I posted above.

Reckon we go for it. 6 and 11 or even just 6 and whatever seems the only play here. Saints forced their hands a bit which is good.

It sucks because other years pick 2 is worth more, but other years pick 2 still wouldn't be traded because it is worth more. Look at Carlton and eagles deal this year.

I think us as North supporters Gotta stop look at other scenarios though, and worrying about what others think and focus just on our own backyard. We want walls, even 10/11/16 would facilitate that

Yeah comparions are unhelpful. Forget precedent. How do we draft the two or three players we want?

Rich Give 10+11+20, Get 2+16
GWS Give 15+16, Get 13+20
Port Give 13 + 29, Get 10
Saints Give 7 + 47, get 11 and 29

North Give 2, Get 7+15+47

North get Tauru and Berry.

Then 47 moves forward about a dozen spots after academy and F/S and we get Gerreyn or Sims (might require bundling with an F3 to get up several more spots, but you get the idea).

Works well for us. I think St Kilda would be the team who does the worst out of that.

We're basically exchanging a talented but non-generational midfielder to fill our three most pressing list needs in one fell swoop.

Biggest problem is the complexity and as you say, the fact that the Saints might need a little more to be persuaded.

Which hand would you prefer we entered this draft with?

1) Pick 2
2) Picks 6 and 18
3) Picks 7 and 15 (with possibility of late steak knives)
4) Pick 7 (and Saint's F1)

I'd be prepared to take that chance.

Melbourne and Richmond need young midfielders.

Even if we missed him, Armstrong + Berry + Gerreyn/Sims would be preferable to just Draper, imo.
