Concern from opposition clubs with us holding pick 2 and selecting FOS… is that if you look at the last 3 years I understand he is the best of the lot and considered to be something pretty special.

Maybe he doesn’t project as well as others and we’re getting him on a down year.

I've had FO'S #1 all year and nothing's changed.

I don't have Whitlock or Armstrong high enough to trade a F1 for them.

In terms of who a F1 could realistically be cashed in for, if we really want a key position type player, I'd do it for Tauru and no other key position player in this draft. I'm big on Hotton, Hannaford and Berry, but I think F1 for them is a stretch, as much as I like all 3.
would you do a f1 for Whitlock an Trainer?

For both of them? No i wouldn't.

Reality is that's probably pick ~15 and ~25, and I wouldn't trade a top 3 pick for that.

I really like Jonty Faull, he's my top key position prospect and I'd have him on the cusp of the top 10, but I still couldn't do a future 1st for him. I'd do it for Tauru because even though I'm not convinced on him as a forward, I really like what he could be as a defender.

Could be a victim of off season optimism here, but...there is a chance it clicks, and with the Parker, Daniel, Darling additions, another top 2 pick, Logue returning, a year into SWMD, and a year of relative stability... there is more chance of growth this year compared to the last two.

Could, hopefully, are looking at a pick outside top 3, hopefully a lot more outside.

I'm with you, but I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic. We've been bad for so long that it's better to border on the assumption that we'll be in the bottom few again.

Have to. I too think the wheel is finally turning, another year into the development and whole department. Darling straightens and provides proper depth at worst, Daniel a ready to go upgrade and Parker helps a lot - but you have to value that F1 at pick 4 or lower at this point.

If a trade was likely then Twomey would be running with it as a possibility - the complete opposite is happening though and the words 'very unlikely' are being repeated. It's easier for one team to keep their lips sealed regarding their plans on who they'd like to take, but for two teams to keep a trade on the down low and then spring it on the night is really not going to happen, especially not at the top end of the draft.

Usually someone will let something slip because that trade would then potentially lead to further trades down the track, and clubs would want to have plans in place for what they could manoeuvre in certain situations.

E.g. If we make a trade with Adelaide (let's say it's 2+F2 for 4 + F1 hypothetically), then Adelaide will want to have contingency plans in place whereby they can trade back in with a side that's willing if the right situation unfolded.

For example, let's say Adelaide are enamoured with Thomas Sims, and would be willing to trade our F2 + their own F2 for him if he's there at pick 22. That's something they'd already want to be talking to Sydney about (and other clubs in that zone). Adelaide only have our F2 and can create that hypothetical if they let Sydney know it's likely to happen - and Twomey would catch wind of that. In the scenario that Adelaide want Sims in the early 20s, they're not just exploring that with Sydney, but probably 3-4 other clubs in that range.

This is how Twomey can get so close, particularly at the top end. Clubs all talk to each other, and while they try as best as possible to keep their cards close to their chests, it's still in their best interest to be prepared for many different scenarios and willing to pivot into one if the opportunity arises. Who clubs pick can be difficult to pinpoint, but trades at the top end would be fairly easy to telegraph at this point.
Dunno about this year Souup? Agree Twomey has many connections and managers leaking purposely to him but this draft with Richmond,, Mellb and Saints being the key players, everyone's been really tightly lipped with their multiple selections.

Ever the optimist, if we turn a corner, and we end up with a pick around that 7-12 bracket, wouldn't look so bad.

what's the talent around that mark next year? I thought their was more superstars in next years draft.

but I still think those later first round are where the bargains are to be had this year.
I think the top 10 seem to be a poison chalice, there's legit question marks over all of them.

I love your posts, but time isn't on our side. Lets bring in 2 talls this year and get developing them asap vs waiting another year for another high pick.

You have to apply the context of how bad for so long we have been and its effect on players, supporters etc.
