Yeah look its a hard one, maybe, maybe not, I'm guessing our pick #2 wasn't as attractive as most drafts and the picks were pretty average but that is a question we all would like to know just as a matter of curiosity.
My view Scout is its not that important what we gave up Its who we have on our list now that is more important, The talent coming in to our team after the trade period and now the draft is high class Add it to the talent we already have then Build into it next year and look out in 20-26 is were it really starts to get exiting in my opinion.

I don't know about that. I get the sense Matt is pretty happy to be forging his own identity.
Their mum says that they are completely different. 1 is more outgoing than the other. From the sounds of things Matt is similar to Harry McKay and Jack is more Ben McKay. Matt is the more athletic one with more endurance..

One of the AFL reporters did say that we wanted to trade for pick #23 and that we were going to get Harry, can't remember who it was.

Just some guesswork I think. Armstrong should never have gone that far but there was a real aversion to some key forwards this draft which was odd considering the raves about them prior.

Mate, I think you better loosen up!
Ha ha ha, good one, no ones more disappointed we didn't get Kayle than me, but you have to expect this will happen more so when you attach yourself to a player that you want and we don't pick him up, I always tell people don't get to attached to a player because the chance we select that player is very very low percentage but then I do it, guess I'm a sucker for hidden talent.

Percentage wise with that comment, is a big 100% spot on!

Let’s hope that’s how they turn out comparatively too.

dont go confusing the product with the process,

personally i dont have a problem with getting danials or whitlock for that matter, but if you are going to tell me we got them by spending the minimal amount of draft capital i say your nieve.

think of the analogy 2 people go into a tractor dealership and buy the same tractor, one pays the RRP and the the other haggles and gets 5k off and they throw in a slasher!

the buyer that got the better deal is better at bargaining regardless that the product they both got is identical re quality/suitability.

Snoz isnt a great bargainer. there is a lot of evidence stacking up to support that. alarmingly most dealing with Richmond!
It’s harsh to say that, I think, when so far he hasn’t gone into trading with a good hand - team stuck down the bottom with relatively limited post-career fame and opportunity to offer, he has had to pay a loading on top of what some other clubs would to get anyone across - which in turn affects how the club drafts. Even when we weren’t crap we struggled to get really good imports, when we have been terrible onfield as well, everything has been even harder and more expensive. We aren’t the customer that salespeople do favours for, in your analogy. Maybe give him credit for coming home with the bloody tractor at all.

Any trade proposal that would have seen us lose out on O’Sullivan probably wouldn’t have cut it.
Yep based on Hartley's interview I'd say the initial tentative agreement between the two teams may have been our F1 for one of 10/11. Sounded like it didn't involve them giving up a F2 until it hit the teens.
Will best player (FOS) locked it and move the F1 for a tall was the strategy.
Whether it's a good one is another thing and the execution is right, we'll have to wait and see if the price was worth it.

I'd speculate that Tigers wanted to make sure they got Hotton at 12 and Faull at 14 before Port, WCE, Freo and Giants.
Then Trainor at 21 because Swans at 22 and took Armstrong at 23.

So our choice was to either take the 27 and a F2 or walk away and get no tall, as most of them were gone before pick 40 (O'Farrell the last one). The only other point other teams traded in was WCE 2025 R3 for Lions 46, GC 2025 R3 for Lions 47, Dogs 2023 R3 for Lions 49 and Saints gave up a 2025 R2 for Bombers 44 and 2025 R4.
Another option might have been to trade 54 and a F2 to move up into that 30's bracket, but no teams wanted out of there until those talls were gone past pick 40.

Hartley said 10 & 11 were never really on the table, that’s not a tentative agreement it’s the opposite in fact. Hartley didn’t elude to a team either so not sure why you assume it was us.

So has everybody managed to take a long, deep breath now……?

Sky has not fallen in. Personally I love what the club’s done here. We can’t just continue to take top 10 picks without investing heavily in the elite kids we already have. I’m really, really bullish about the balance of our list now. Win 8 games next year, get LDU’s signature and watch out 2026!!!!

Is it time to start operation Get Jack Whitlock?
Get the twins together & they will be even better I reckon.

Step 1. start now getting in the ear of Matt, Jack, the parents & plant the seed.

Step 2. Get the dad a Mazda :p
Tell Jack during the year to miss his ice bath sessions, fly home to see Mom mid season and not tell anyone at the club. He can also chip Jordan Sweet about how to play the Ruck position during a match.

The final results are in for the "2024 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT SUPPORTERS DUMMY SPITS AWARDS"
🏆 ST KILDA :
No elite midfielders, picked up two good players for the backline and drafted two speculative midfielders.
🥈 NORTH MELBOURNE : Trading in a future first for pick #27 and the Tigers future second rounder.
🥉 ESSENDON :
Trading out pick #9 for pick #13 and Melbourne's first rounder. Lindsay, Hotton, Reid and Berry?
