As much as it pained me to lose our F1 at least we won't be pressured into taking another mid next year which we will not need
Only way North doesn’t call out a mid with our first pick if it’s been traded away.

Maybe forced abstinence is the only cure for our love affair with midfield first rounders.

I understand what your saying Koshari, but what I'm saying is we did what we had to do to get the players on our list, now obviously we wanted Harry Armstrong but couldn't get him even at pick #23, but we got the boys that we wanted, of course we didn't spend the minimal amount but that's the secret right there, "it doesn't matter what we spent, the job is done".
Well it does matter what we spent because we dont have a 1st rounder next year. Or using the tractor analogy we cant buy a bailer with the 5k we saved next season.

And its ever worse that the disadvantage became our opposition richmonds advantage.

Its poor management. And poor management puts you to a disadvantage against your opposition.

The final results are in for the "2024 AFL NATIONAL DRAFT SUPPORTERS DUMMY SPITS AWARDS"
🏆 ST KILDA :
No elite midfielders, picked up two good players for the backline and drafted two speculative midfielders.
🥈 NORTH MELBOURNE : Trading in a future first for pick #27 and the Tigers future second rounder.
🥉 ESSENDON :
Trading out pick #9 for pick #13 and Melbourne's first rounder. Lindsay, Hotton, Reid and Berry?
I actually think all those clubs above did pretty well. Wish we had Tauru and Gerryn

The recruitment approach this year to deliberately target experienced leadership targets throws up some interesting facts. For those who love our clubs history, here goes.

The inclusion of ParDarDan (Parker/Darling/Daniel) brings the following combined experience into the club.
  • 3 Flags
  • 5 AA’s
  • 4 B&Fs
  • 783 Games
Back in the early 1970’s we were serial cellar dwellers. The recruitment of Ron Barrassi as coach, the new 10 year rule for players to move to other clubs and a salary cap back then was not even spoken about. In any case these 4 players came into the club with their collective experience.

John Randall (Sth Melbourne)
Barry Davis (Essendon)
Doug Wade (Geelong)
Brent Croswell (Carlton)
  • 5 Flags
  • 4 B&Fs
  • 3 Coleman’s
  • 3 Team of the Century's
  • AA’s back then a little iffy with state carnivals, but easily multiple jackets from this quartet
  • Drumroll now on the total games played………..784 games!!
Inside 4 years it netted the 2 flags for 1975 and 1977. Well may this be a good omen for our club.

Ralphy and any other media hacks looking for an article over the summer. You are welcome 😎. Go Kangas for 2025.

Huge time for the club. Croswell came in 75, I don't think as part of the ten year rule (might be wrong). I remember losing the 74 GF and thinking that was it - all over. We had our one chance. Tough times to be a NMFC member during the 60s and early 70s. We were garbage - actually, a bit like now tbh. When the good times came I saw people crying who probably never cried in their life, So much emotion at the 75 GF. Magic moment in my footy life.

Correct, not part of the 10 year rule. Played 5 games over 74-75 at Carlton, so they may have thought he was cooked.

Good players missed those flags due to injury too, Melrose & Michalczyk.

Ha ha ha, good one, no ones more disappointed we didn't get Kayle than me, but you have to expect this will happen more so when you attach yourself to a player that you want and we don't pick him up, I always tell people don't get to attached to a player because the chance we select that player is very very low percentage but then I do it, guess I'm a sucker for hidden talent.
Same here, was a big fan.
Nevertheless very happy with the players we drafted.
Cost a bit, but have 2 F2's which will be very handy next year.

I wouldn't mind giving Darcy MacPherson a crack if a spot opens up.
I'm not sure Darcy Macpherson is the type of person we want at our club. I'm also pretty sure in 2021 or 2022 we offered him a spot on our list in a trade swap {salary dump} with Gold Coast with one of their first rounders {pick #8} and he said he didn't want to play for US, think he wanted more years than we offered.

Zero Hanger's "Frank Seal" has reported he has been training with us {when your out of a job and the club you love dumps you I guess some people change their tune pretty quickly} but AFL CLUBS don't hold grudges like supporters do so that would be the reason him and a couple of others had been training with us, I'm happy he is not on our list, he had his chance but turned his nose up at us, over estimated his ability, very average player indeed.

We have our list of players we think can get the job done, we aren't that worried about next years draft, IF we really like a certain player next year we can trade two years of picks in if required so again everything's fine and as for the tractor, well you know that's a funny thing cause we are putting the tractor in the garage for a long long time and we have this new vehicle.

Now this new vehicle is quite an update, some people are going to have to get use to this new vehicle cause we haven't had something like this for a long time, this new vehicle is a Lamborghini Countach and we are taking it out for a spin next year, we're pretty excited but as always with new vehicles the first half of the year we'll be going for short drives and then at that halfway point when we know what we've got, we're gonna "cut loose" and there's not many vehicles out there that are going to keep up with us! ;)

Hartley said 10 & 11 were never really on the table, that’s not a tentative agreement it’s the opposite in fact. Hartley didn’t elude to a team either so not sure why you assume it was us.
Yep sorry you are correct. I was just speculating on what may have been the discussions before the night.
He mentioned "they were able to get a line of sight" from talking with Brady going into the night and it "shifted from F1 flat to their F2 being involved". So based on that it must have been a deal involving 18/20/23/24. Bloody hell indeed.

Sorry Chubbs, I didn’t mean to come across as terse in response to your post, the Brady pile on is infuriating me. I should know better. Might be best for me to stay out of the Draft and Brady threads for a bit. I’ll be over in the Will Phillips thread where things are a lot calmer. Apologies.
