For sure what NRL are doing to risky but it's has a huge payout have to admire them for taking on such a challenge. Setting up academies there can a be smart play tons of athletes there who won't make NFL nba mlb can be new area to scout.

It means a game or two in Perth each year, none in Adelaide, and still no women's team in Australia's biggest market.
NRL consistently outrates AFL matches. This is something the NRL has always been strong with.

The League that already has a full 18 team women's competition is not "stretching itself"

It's a Domestic competition would have been a better way of putting it, and that's where it's future lies, not on the international scene.

Its huge investment in AFLW and the four northern clubs is inline with that strategy

Problem is, Rugby Union is already established in America and although I prefer League I’m not sure what League can offer that comes anywhere close to what Union does

The only place the NRL is slightly ahead of the AFL are the TV ratings that are inflated for the NRL by the ARL SOO matches on all the other KPIs the AFL is almost double that of the NRL tha is long way back in second place but hey don't let the FACTS get in the way of a good beat up!.

The game will only become national when we have teams in Tassie, NT and Canberra, and that's why I'm a strong advocate of Canberra and Tassie having their own teams and have been for a long time. Hardly a sign of a troll.

What does this even mean? "truly national until x"? Newcastle is a bigger city than Darwin, why is it national if there's a team there but not Newcastle?
What about Alice Springs or the Kimberley? And surely it can't be truly national unless we get a team on Christmas Island

Checked the stat's nrl had more viewers not including State Of the Origin even AFL had 3 more games. Don't NSW and Queensland have more then 50% of the population so not that surprising.

Agree. And I’m at this point confident that the AFL would be happy seeing their focus and excitement centred across the other side of the world. This, whilst the AFL spends $1B in growing participation and taking over schools, sporting ovals etc in significant parts of NSW / QLD. By comparison, the NRL are being blindsided and only a few ‘grumpy’ state NRL officials in recent weeks can see their emerging problem.

… and don’t forget the overlapping games played at the same time that splits the AFL TV audience in many games.
The nearest apples v apples ratings comparisons is in the finals (although, of course, the AFL games are still 50% longer). This years, apart from the GF, in all the finals the AFL went head to head against the NRL - and won the ratings in every single final (even with the extra hour) easily. This happens every single year and the explanation is very simple - far more people have an interest in and/or follow Australian Football in Australia than NRL football - and it ain’t close.
It a was just more BS from V'Landy's pushed as usual as a fact by the Sydney Murdoch DT gutter rag who seem to be in awe of the bogan media tart and the only reason that RL gets more TV viewers overall than the AFL is the 3 x ARL SSO matches!
On EVERY other KPI the AFL is miles ahead and they OWN Marvel Stadium which has just had a $250 million Victorian Govt sponsored makeover and with sellout concerts like the recent Pink and the Matilda's match last night plus 4 x Cold Play concerts and 2 x Pearl Jam Concerts after the AFL season finishes the AFL has a steady income stream and would make a handy profit from those the events at the Stadium so they don't just have to rely on the AFL Matches.
The only growth area the NRL is pushing hard is more gambling income.
