Yep. We talked about how that set him back last year. If he can become an integral piece of the midfield we want then oh my.

Oh and everyone is a Mitch Owens fanboi. It's almost embarrassing to have been the first on board with my Aisle 29 friends Yeah Yeah Nat Fyfe, Yeah Yeah Paddy Cripps. Shut up Aisle 29 claimed Mitchito from the start!

Pfff you lot just heard us making noise about Mitchito from L2 A30!

Interesting watching the match sim highlights and seeing some of the stoppage players. Windy getting a bit of it, Pou with the mids, even saw Henry in there for a centre bounce.

It's clearly the most important area going into the season. I'm not worried about the forward line, King and Owens up there with Membrey back fit is going to cause concerns for opposition teams. The midfield is where we were found out last year and our best 2023 mid Crouch seems to be coming from a fair way back this pre-season so we can't rely on him.

We need Steele back to his best but we're also pretty desperate for some kids to step up. Clark elevating his game would be huge. Hopefully Dow can give us something. If the likes of Pou and Windy can show signs of becoming A grade mids in the future then we're cooking.

Fingers crossed but it might be the area that holds us back from becoming a real threat especially if Jones and Crouch spend large chunks of the season injured. The one that looks most likely to step up is Windy, but it's a big jump to become an A grade AFL midfielder.

Lol a really brave move getting on the Mitch Owens bandwagon.
Really going out on a limb.

He's basically zero risk with the way he goes about it, so long as his body holds up.
Just bloody hope he can become a decent set shot at goal. He's going to earn himself plenty of set shots with that pressure and attack on the ball.

I was thinking the other day, you'd be pretty happy if you'd spent a top ten pick on Mitch, the way he's tracking. Probably just the set shots that make him look less than an elite kid atm. And Windhager's going to die trying to keep up with him career-wise, so that's bloody promising too.

Last bandwagon I jumped on was Darren Bourke. Was a pretty short, lonely ride. Was massive on Lenny from day one though, which I'll brag about til my grave. Actually Lenny was after Darren wasn't he..? F' I'm getting old...

I am actually the most worried about the forward line. We need to kick goals to win games and last years effort was nowhere near good enough.

We got smashed by rebound defenders like Sicily and Andrews.

We were the worst in the comp converting inside 50's to scoring shots.

Just banking on King, Owens, and Membrey being good players and available for selection isn't going to cut it. We need better structures from the forwards, and better strategies for delivery inside 50.

I believe RTB is working on this by improving the delivery into the forwards. The biggest issue were defenders intercepting forward thrusts when our midfield bombed the entry kick. Expect to see more bullets in to leading forwards chests.

Really needs to be a continual focus (as I'm sure it is/will be), because our f50 entries last year really burnt us. Repeatedly bombing it as prime pickings for intercept defenders who would have an absolute field day. Tear the hair out stuff as a supporter.

From watching training last year it was a focus then too, and at training was done well. But that changed in the pressure of a game.

At training the other day RTB was critical of a couple of entry kicks, and also critical of the forwards for not leading at the kicker.

Focusing on King at training he was keeping mobile with the ball still up the ground, which was good to see as I think last year he sometimes would not run and lead to get a better run at the ball (which if he does well he is unstoppable due to his size, athleticism, and pace) and would instead motion for it to be dumped on his head where a defender would often outmuscle him or push him off his line so he couldn't get a run and jump at it. I hope he keeps moving and keeps busy. And I hope as a team they keep training for multiple leading lanes and multiple leading options.

The forwards can do this regardless, but also how effective it is then is reliant on the inside 50 entries. Sinclair is leagues ahead in this respect generally. Pin-points them every time. I hope others can start bridging that gap.

Throw Sharman in with that lot

Yes I think that's the main problem, but it still needs good leading targets and the ability for our Forwards to dominate the space. We had an excuse last year of our injuries, but no excuses this year.

Mowman have you snagged a few pristine Sherrins now that Billings isn't collecting the ones that go over the fence at training anymore?
I tried to grab a few late last year but bloody Leathlean and Gaggs were there and stashing them in their cars

I stole a few out of their boot. Wasn't surprised to see what balls they were using... no wonder our goal kicking struggled..

If Cole is looking the goods ... hide him away .... put him in the gym .... do whatever we can to stop another team poaching him .... if he is that good missing a few games won't matter

Get him to stay at Schoonermaster's place.

I think we've got options there now, Sharman another that people have mentioned who can continue to improve. Maybe the worry is the smalls, Butler is a big loss but hopefully he can get up for round one and Collard could surprise. I'm sure the structure will improve after a season of a lot of chopping and changing last year.

The midfield is where we seem to be lacking talent, in my opinion.
