Theres some about Adelaide….I’m not sure why but I hate this club. Maybe it’s because I got momentarily lost in a Adelaide shopping mall as a kid in the early 80’s and with the Beaumont kids disappearance still in their memories my parents proceeded to drag me around Adelaide by my ear for the rest of the holiday. Or that the last time I watched a game at the hallowed Princes Park Carlton lost to a winless Adelaide in 2001. Or maybe that for reasons too complicated to explain I have seen both Adelaide grand final wins but have not seen my beloved Blues win on the last day of September. There’s something about Adelaide…and I just hate them!

Now for the game analysis. They aren’t exactly travelling great but it would be folly to think Adelaide will be a walk in the park for the Blues with another loss almost certainly resigning them to another season without finals. Also whilst we are undefeated which is great the Freo game showed we can look decidedly ordinary when we are beaten in the clearances and the opposition bring real pressure. As Fremantle did, Adelaide will prioritise winning the clearances to gain territory, tactics they used to great success against us in the two most recent encounters we have had with them, both comfortable wins to the Crows. In those losses we were also cut up by their half backs with Smith, Hinge, Milera etc all among the best players. This would be a big worry given our small forwards are still very inconsistent from week to week although my concerns are slightly tempered by the absence of Milera due to injury and Hinge and Smith being well down on their best form. It wouldn’t surprise me if they pushed Laird back to half back, a role he has played very well against us in the past, to give Rachele and Rankine more time in the midfield to provide a point of difference they have been lacking this season with their usual midfield line ups of Crouch, Dawson, Laird and Berry, all of whom are very similar types.

In terms of personnel changes their ruckman O’Brien has historically given us problems, and given how benign our forward line looks when Harry has to ruck, there’s a real case to bring in Pittonet (or even Young ) this week to play second ruck and leave Harry forward permanently. This will also stretch their backline when TDK rest forward where they are weakened by the injury to Murray, a key defender I rate very highly. It’s not ideal but aside from handing Moir a debut he may not be ready for we don’t have many other options due to the injuries to Silvagni, Martin and now Elijah. Hopefully we get Sam Walsh back to as his gut busting running has been missed more as each week passes, especially with Cripps and Kennedy being asked to pinch hit as mobile third forwards and also providing around the ground ruck duties. Unlike some others I didn’t like Kemp’s game against the Dockers as he again made too many mistakes and the thought of him on Fogarty (someone who routinely plays well against us) gives me chills, so if Marchbank is available I think he comes in. There are a few others down on form such as Ollie and Durdin but they probably get a reprieve due to the forced changes of Elijah out injured and Fogarty likely suspended, and the likes of Martin and Motlop still weeks away from existing injuries. So in summary I think the changes should be Pittonet, Marchbank and Walsh in for Elijah, Kemp and Fogarty, meaning we line us as follows:

Saad, Weitering, Marchbank
Williams, McGovern, Newman
Acres, Cripps, Ollie
Owies, Harry, Fantasia
Tdk, Charlie, Durdin
Pittonet, Cerra, Walsh
Boyd, Hewett, Kennedy, Cottrell Carroll (sub)

In conclusion I think we will win as I can see our clearance game eventually getting on top of theirs as their pressure falls and with it enough scoring opportunities should come for us to win.

Forced outs I guess

Out Elijah Fog
In Walsh Moir

You could also make a strong case for Pitto and Cincotta, but would need to shuffle magnets
Fog injured? He ain’t getting game/s for that attack.

Fantasia out.
Kennedy too there for a while, redeemed in the 2nd half. Needs to get cleaner and more marks up forward.

I don't think TDK was beaten today. Our mids got their hands to the ball, we just couldn't for some reason hand it off or control it so it would spill and they got the clearance.
TDK was awesome. Would have had him BOG or close to it, but statistically we just win more clearances with Pitto. Forget the exact stat but last year Pitto was the best ruck to have in terms of the team winning clearances when he was in there... Despite often not doing a lot himself.

TDK has turned tapping it to the opposition into an art form.

He needs to stop hitting it to the outside. It’s low percentage crap that is completely killing our clearance game.

Tap it down on the inside and let our bulls go to work.

Or get out of the way and let Pittonet do it.

Kennedy should have been in the centre getting the ball out. He is not a half back or a half forward flanker.

I’m going to this one can’t wait!
First game live for the year.

I think it will be another tough game.

Walsh in for e.hollands.
I think I’d leave the backline for now. Let marchy come back through the twos.
Wouldn’t mind cinc coming in and playing in the midfield, as he may give us that more burst point of difference I feel we need.
Still not sure about playing Kennedy forward either
