Not a lock for the team then why does every member of the AA Committee meantion Zorko by name what do you want him to do to make the team I think Neale should be Captain actually but if you think Zorko isn’t a lock who out of the HBF are?
Id have him pretty much level with Clark, Dale, Holmes, Whitfield, Houston and Blakey. Zorko better offensively than most of them but imo not as good defensively, probably on par with Whitfield.

Personally I'd go Clark, Holmes, Dale but it would be a bit of a coin flip of who makes the team of that group imo.

Even still, there would be an outrage if he was named Captain over a few of the others who have had far better years.

dayne zorko is :

  • the eldest player in the team
  • a previous captain with a 60% win rate
  • consulted weekly by current captain harris andrews because of how highly rated his leadership is
  • a visible on field leader in a backline thats flourished since he moved there

i cant think of many with better credentials than dayne zorko to be all australian captain
Cripps has to be in.
I was going to say there's actually a player he's left out of his team with better credentials to be captain.

Then you also have The Bont.

They are captain and vice-captain.

Neale next in line.

I reckon Clarke and Zorko are probably the top 2, with maybe Blakely in the pocket

He’s job isn’t to be defensive Lions have players like Lester Starcevich and Wilmot to do that

Which is why it's a discussion to be had. Whitfield and Zorko are nearly entirely offensive weapons for their teams by design, their teams don't want them on the last line of defense in a contest because they know that's not their strength.

Clarke, Holmes, Dale, Blakey and Houston do more on the other side of the ball but are slightly worse offensively than those two imo.

It comes down to what the selectors value more? Personally I'd go for the more rounded players but I completely understand that some will favour the more offensive player when deciding.

I actually have to pinch myself in what Treacy is doing this year. A very real case to be made he's been the third best KPF for the year and they generally pick 3 KPFs... Would be stoked for him to be in the squad though.

I agree on Warner possibly missing out, particularly if Sydney dont change their form. Off coaches votes, these names are locks particularly once you add this weeks votes in (most would have polled). Gets tougher after where others have been inconsistent

You can present an argument that when Darcy has been out he's the second ruck too.

Treacy and Amiss will be unbelievable in years to come

So many years of Tab and Lobb and out of nowhere the problem has been solved

Serong is hitting scary form right now

I think you sell Lachie and Zork short …. Both defensive beasts in comparison to Dale (as much as I love Dale)

Once again, where is the data to support he was impacting games at an AA level at half back? Aaron Hall was the king of seagulls back in the day for u guys, pumped out massive super coach scores week after week, but nobody really mentioned him as an AA player because he really wasn't impacting games a whole lot.

Coaches votes is a pretty fantastic measure of a players impact on games, Sheezels not in the top 20 as it stands right now. That's because in the first half of the year he was having a truckload of disposals, but not having a large impact on games.

As I said, I wouldn't be shocked if he missed... Certainly wouldn't be up in arms about it if he made the team either. He's a gun and will be in plenty of AA teams in the future.

Coaches votes are a horrifically bad way to measure players.

It’s entirely dictated by team performance. Performances in wins will always be valued over losses.

Show me some examples of players in sub 5 win teams who have defied that bias?

His sample size is a hell of a lot longer than 6 weeks.

He’s probably the only player in the comp who has qualified with the minutes required spent in each 3 parts of the field this season to qualify for a back, midfield or forward AA jersey. Somehow that’s viewed as a negative 😂

Regardless he’s been a top 5 player in the comp since going midfield.

It’s hilarious that statistically the best teenager to play AFL football won’t be named AA in your eyes, with the others that have come before him over the years 😂

Over the course of the season who has he been better than out of Heeney, Cripps, Bontempelli, Daicos, Neale, Merrett, Warner and Gulden?

Clark Weitering Blakey
Zorko Andrews Whitfield

Gawn Neale(C) Daicos
Gulden Bont(VC) Merrett

Moore Curnow Heeney
Daniher Hogan Stengle

Sheezel Serong Butters Treloar

Zorko took on King at one point and got the better of him.

Would Luke Ryan be a chance? Been a bit quieter past few weeks, but before that had some big games

No effing way. watched him plenty, was the biggest stat padder I'd ever seen. for context, he averaged 130 supercoach pre bye which has never been done before for a defender. after the coach told his team to stop looking at their stats, his output has dropped 30%.

Not saying he is a bad player, but he took part in a ridiculous amount of unnessesary kicks and is always slow to move the ball.

Serong came 8th last year in a btm 6 team
Your right though favours winning teams but judging off last year coaches votes seam to have a lot of bearing on AA team whether its crap or not.

I know this one has been done to death already but if we make finals it just seems weird Sicily isn't in the AA conversation. He is our 1 genuine superstar.
Hawks are a very even club just like the Lions majority of the reason Lions have never had multiple players in the AA team I can see the Hawks being the same I love the season Moore is having

You got any arguments for no Cripps? 😂 would love to hear the sound analysis behind Neale being in the team ahead of him despite trailing in nearly every important statistic for an inside mid.
neale is just a better player

anyone with a pair of eyes could tell you this
