I think upcoming games against Adelaide (although we are significantly better than them) and GWS pose greater dangers for us personally.

GWS game especially as Toby seems to turn into prime Ablett and Wayne Carey every time against us.

I felt sure JJ goes to Stewart, but Kane Cornes & co. convinced me on SEN today that he goes to Holmes.

The argument did make a lot of sense.

Who does Stewart? Hayward would be a good choice, could match him in the air and in pace.

Post-bye games can be unpredictable but we should win by 2 or 3 goals. Geelong have a lot of strengths and it's v unusual to see them string together so many losses. Cameron has been rubbish lately, is due for a big one.

Probably Hayward would be the logical one, maybe Wicks.

Yeah think a 15-25 point win is about right and there's weather around the rest of the week (not on sunday)

I’ve said it many times, there’s some incredible stat that in the run-up to the ‘05 flag, in something like the last 12 games of the season, we had just one personnel change. (Sean Dempster in for Luke Vogels, from memory.)

geez, luke vogels ... i remember him, thought he might turn out a good forward ...

I’m confident of a pretty good win here. Something in the 5-7 goal range. I just think Geelong is teetering and their core of old bodies in Hawkins, Dangerfield (if he plays), C.Guthrie (if he plays), Tuohy, Duncan are ripe for our young guys to put metres on them. Add in their ruck is a serious problem whether it’s Conway who is promising but raw or Stanley who is just done. Grundy will have either of them for lunch. If we can sit on Max Holmes (I suspect with Jordon) then I think we’ll win this fairly comfortably. I don’t think we play the type of game that Stewart will dominate that easily anyway, I think we can move the ball around him as long as we have somebody within cooee of him.

very much agree with your summation of this game ... and while weird things happen, we've had enough of that happening in geelong games and i really believe we're primed to dominate this game
and i also believe gws are our biggest threats longer term
but definitely feeling positive about this weekend

From memory he was stiff to be dropped but I guess they locked in a strong 22 and an opening never reappeared.

Got delisted the end of 2007 and no-one picked him up.

Wikipedia tells me he’s 40 now so that’s probably it for Luke Vogels and senior footy 🤪.

I reckon it’s Wicks personally. I doubt the coaches will choose to blunt Hayward’s attacking prowess by sending him to Stewart. I reckon Wicks might be given tape of what Jed McEntee (another small forward pocket who doesn’t have the marking acumen in a vacuum to match with Stewart) did from a few weeks ago and told to do exactly what McEntee did.

Saw on Facebook a clip of some of the HTBs that were paid under the "new interpretation" that wouldn't have been paid under the "old interpretation."

It didn't look like it effected the Warner style of players too much, the ones who kinda use the power in their hips to turn the tackler around to a point where they could dispose of the ball effectively. Nearly every example in this clip was more the JPK style of players, the ones who try to use their upper body strength to wrestle their arms free in the tackle to dispose of the ball.

Might effect Heeney more than Warner.

(I still think there's no point worrying about the ramifications of a rule that we just know is going to be inconsistently and cluelessly paid.)

It’ll benefit:

(a) Daicos - because he’s Daicos; and
(b) the Bravedogs - as throws are now a lesser sin than holding onto it.

Drafted in same rookie draft as Heath Grundy, both started as forwards in the AFL Canberra for our reserves kicking bags of goals against at times very weak opposition. IIRC played the last few games of 2005 but dropped for Paul Bevan as they wanted a smaller forward line for the finals and didn't get back in the team. Not sure what happened after that.

Just occurred to me from your post that Luke Vogels to Paul Bevan in 2005 is Tommy Walsh to Mitch Morton in 2012.

I mean, it’s not a perfect like for like but it’s something!

I’m almost certain he was dropped for Sean Dempster but happy to be corrected.

Pretty sure Bevan was playing a Fox type role whereas Morton was a noted goalkicker (though he had to improve his defence to get a run). Interesting that when Longmire took over he dispensed with the defensive forward role (and Bevan) but has since returned to it.
