Cant really do that come proper season with Dixon, Marshall, Finlayson in the side so 1 will have to play 2s I think. Sweet is probably the 1 they want rucking. Don't want Dixon or Finlayson Rucking more than they should.
Agreed. If all those guys are fit, there's zero chance they play 2 ruckman.
I actually think Finlayson does a reasonable job around the ground. Seems to benefit his confidence to get involved and his forward play improves as a result.
Why bother going for Soldo then? I expect Soldo to be given first crack if fit.
Looking at it from a financial/list build point of view, they're still probably paying less than most clubs are on their ruck division as a whole. So why not bring in two guys and hope one of them steps up and makes the job his own. Two bites at the cherry rather than one.
I think 'Why bother going for Soldo?' is more a question for Soldo than it is for Port

Gawn and Witts love this.
Maybe not

Ruck contest frees against in 2023: 19 - Tim English 15 - Bailey Williams 14 - Reeves, Goldstein, Hickey, O'Brien, Pittonet
Ruck contest frees for in 2023:27 - Todd Goldstein 23 - Rowan Marshall 21 - Bailey Williams, Jarrod Witts 19 - Kieren Briggs

Does this mean the stronger rucks can now stiff arm the minnows and get a free run at HTAs?
The Ruck interpretation is going to suit Gawn to a tee

Whatever it means we will get a look at it .
whenever there is a rule change or interpretation the umps will school the clubs first then over officiate the implementation of the rule like hell during preseason . STAND , STAND, STAND.

The big boys like Witts, Hodor , Briggs , Gawn I guess will stiff arm and the lighter guys will have to jump at cba.
Around the ground might be a bit harder.

Im not convinced he cant be SC relevant still. He scores superfast and as well as anyone when he is on a run. Timing is everything though, when to get on and when to get off. I love and hate the big fella at the same time, its a rollercoaster.

I think he can still go 110+ pretty easy even with Jackson so definitely supercoach relevant. There's just more risks (role & injury) with him then other guys who are priced and will score similarly to bother with.

Weirdly, we chased Soldo for the Lobb role so maybe the plan is for Soldo to play that forward/ruck role as relief for their other forwards?

Stupidly tempted by Will Green from the swans as R3. Some track watchers think he might be their forward/ruck option based on their pre-season training reports.

It prob depends a bit on Sweet, as you know he's terrible fwd so if he plays he would have to be first ruck you would think

If you're going for a cheap R3 it's got to be Maley from North. DPP and a chance at games this season.

You don't like Grundy?
Nothing against Grundy .....with Rucks, chose points over value .....and (C) options

I can (C) English and Gawn with confidence ....I can't with Grundy

I will though have to seek a lot of value in other picks to compensate

I have Marshall & Grundy so no real captain options with them but have another 5 players who are captain options.
Do you have Bont as well?

I suspect Bont had an "out of the box" season ....at 28 YO, seems a bit late to hit a new season ceiling average
I expect him to drop 10 points on his season average .....whereas English is in a Contract year :whitecheck: and just coming into his prime, and capable of holding his ave, maybe a slight drop

I am also tempting going Marshall over Gawn. What is your reasoning?

After the suns loss last year, RTB put the players on blast. Marshall went massive after that game including the final.

If he improves his tap work with a better midfield it would mean a lot more points. I have no doubt he is going for that AA ruck spot.

I worry about Gawn lasting the whole season, but with the rule change coming out. It will allow Gawn to fend off players and stop them slamming into him all season.

I must be the only Coach pairing English with Gawn
I fully expect the dogs to use Darcy and/or Lobb a lot more in the ruck this year. Has Gawn and Witts early, the types that he struggles against. I think English is extremely over priced.
