Sharman has this knack of lifting late in games. Unsure of him at the top level but he stands up in the big moments, forward and back.

Hopefully Hotton isn’t out for too long. Did Campbell, Jones, Paton and Collard all travel to Perth or are there injury concerns?
Was one of our best in the final last year.

100% agree and give him a 5 game guaranteed block
Sharman best position is the role that Membery plays and Membery 31 next year so this could well be his last year with us - he has been one of our best for many years , but the time comes when you just lose that spring in your step and he is not the only one - surely this will be Sebs last year as well.

Hard agree for me. Steele, Dow, Clark, Windy and Garcia for the midfield

Mattaes stats increased to 26 7 clearances and 13 tackles. Really happy for him in a tight game. He’ll get there no doubt.

Nothing wrong with developing kids in the VFL so that they build confidence and experience before being unleashed. Some players ht the ground running and others need a bit more development. Looking at guys like Flanders who played a heap of VFL hit the AFL like he was already a 100 game player.

I have found it very hard to get information about Sandy, such team selections, this year. Never had a problem in the paST

It's all on the AFL app now so a lot of it has gone on there. It's actually better now and you can watch every game live and on replay.

watched half the replay, focussing on philipou... first half is not great watching, despite leading our disposals (apparently) with 10 or so at half time.

Scrappy wet match, but I barely saw one clean disposal from him.. a long kick comes to mind from a free but that's about it so far. He's been on ball the whole time except for a rest on the bench in the 2nd. Just looks super reactive, the ball needs to be in his lap before he triggers the "I have to get it" instinct. Opposite of a chito or hamill who get agro within 10 metres of it. Additionally when players have the ball around him and are under the pump, he doesn't do much to provide an option, yes he's there maybe calling for it, but he's not running to space or providing much of anything, very flat footed.

Lots of work to do

Hotton however, only a few touches so far playing forward (very scrappy and limited entries) and goes down injured soon, but seems to have a really strong attack on the ball now, looks a total different player to his first few games. Fast and strong, look forward to seeing him develop now he's finally over his back injury.

Yeah great points. I feel like this is because he's still thinking "what am I supposed to do/ where am I supposed to be in this situation" - like he's almost paying too much attention to the coaches' instructions.

Totally agree 'movement' and quickness of action is a midfielders bread and butter and Phillipou just doesnt have it at this time. It doesnt mean we cant learn it, he can but he is not a natural instinctive mid like Garcia.

I feel for Hotton he just cant get any continuity with his body. All the U18 pundits suggested he can play, he just hasnt had a decent chance to show it. Given with what Stavro has suggested I think he might be fighting for a spot at seasons end. Although he is from the same draft year as Van Es and he is in the same boat, so hopefully they both get more time to prove themselves.

Interesting points about Phillipou

Agree that when he gets the ball he always seems to be standing still and never on the move hence why he racks up a lot of handball stats

Given his supposed running prowess he needs to get on his bike a more .... cause when he does receive it on the move he looks good

He could do well watching some Bont videos
I will also question his reading of the ball in flight as he has a big tendency to run underneath the ball and take it behind his head rather than out in front and hence he drops a lot of marks

Great thing he is still very young and very coachable but there is a fair bit of development to go

Re: Max Hall ... we drafted him as a potential mid so why in his first game for Sandy do we play him as a forward .... get him in the guts and let's see what he can do

I understand we had Crouch in there on the weekend but he should be playing as mid in front of any non-Saint Zebra player

Hopefully we will see more of him as a primary mid in the weeks to come

Bachelor mentioned in an interview that they just wanted to ease Hall in last week given the quick turnaround then will work on teaching him the game plan and getting him more involved over the next few weeks.

Pou needs start working on his handball receive game a bit more, running around the pack as an outlet player from time to time and not just being a contest player.

Would be nice to see him get a bit of the "give it to me" vibe he had when he started out.

I suspect repeated games in the VFL might help him develop that confidence again.

I’ve said a few time with Pou.

One getting easier possessions ie simple uncontested marks around the ground. Alah Sincs Naz.

Secondly it’s all about driving the legs for Pou in the contest. I know he works on it a lot. I think it’s a simmilar situation to Windy last year. It’s Definetly possible as both Seb Ross and Windy are top examples of guys who have improved their careers at this.

Just keep at it. He has all the tools

I think pou does find good space as a lead up forward though, and if we keep him long term i think that's where he will carve a niche out
A lead up forward...at the Saints!?
