I haven't read this but I am willing to bet it's a journalist or pundit suggesting that we should trade Max King after trolling the peanut galleries on various SM, like this one.

It will probably also be written in order for the average HS reader to infer that the club are actually considering it, whereas in reality, it probably got thrown up once in a "Say Any Shit Maybe We'll Stumble Upon A Winner #blueskying" brainstorm sesh among the list management team along with other brainfarts like "What if we offered to pay Alistair Clarksons court fees in exchange for the Number One 2024DP?" and "How about we sell Owens, Windy and Nas to West Coast in exchange for Harley Reid?"

More hoo ha over not much the biggest suggestion was to trade Max King - I wonder if the club would ever entertain that?
Well it would be easy enough as there'd by 17 clubs lining up to take him.

Can you imagine him playing for the Pies or Swans? It would be genuinely depressing.

Also he's 23 so why you'd trade a key forward at that age is absolutely beyond me.

The media analysis of us is a joke at times. It's hilarious that people actually get paid to write that garbage.

When you run a club down all anyone can imagine you exist for is as an incubator for the good clubs. Trading out young high potential players for picks is peak idiot. If Lyon starts doing that we need to get him out as soon as we can before he ruins the list.

I guess the logic is that if we trade King, then we would need someone tall to stand and look stupid in the goal square.

I see Kane Cornes thinks we should trade King (only read the headline, not the article).

Can't imagine that article will make any conventional sense. If we think we're at ground zero of a rebuild, and if we think the future midfield is Windy, Mitch, Pou and potentially some other youngins then you'd think the midfield is a ~4 year fix (since midfielders come on a lot quicker than KPF).

In that scenario the midfield comes good as Max is in his absolute prime, with Hammer probably being a ~125 gamer 24 year old as Max's foil at the same time (I know the jury is out a bit on Hammer but I think he'll make it, I reckon he's tracking very well for a 20 year old who has been in the AFL system for ~14 months).

Kane Cornes always suggesting players to flip and flop, unless of course it’s at his club, Port not too bad but not too good Adelaide

Cornes is not coming at it from a "what's good for Stkilda" perpective. His argument is that playing for Stkilda is ruining Max as a footballer and he needs to go somewhere to realise his true talents.

Hard to argue with.

Hard to argue? This is the first real lean patch king has had for the club. Player have lean patches. It’s part of the game. Kanes a dill

He’s a 23 year old KPF who has kicked 152 goals from 79 games at Saints, including 28 from 11 last season, 52 from 22 season before.

If we’re going to suggest that young KPFs switch clubs as soon as they reach a 5 game lean patch of form just because they play for St Kilda, we are giving ourselves no hope of success whatsoever.

I'm not arguing Cornes is correct. But if you take an outsiders perspective, he can certainly make a case. Max has played 80 games of a possible 130, that would seem to support Cornes argument he is getting battered having balls dropped on his head every game. He is going at under 2 goals a game which would support his view that he is behind players he should not be behind. He is getting woeful delivery in a team that is scoring about 8 - 10 goals a game on average. He is in a team that looks to be one of the worst lists in the AFL with no real light on the horizon.

I can see how outsiders might look at that. I can see how Max might look at it.

I argued at the time that Josh Bruce should have been kept to phase him in. It worked for Naughton who looks a more confident player even though his kicking is worse.

Get a load of this garbage

I wonder if Cornes thought West Coast should've offloaded Waterman (currently 26yrs old) the last 2 years when they were absolute shite and he was averaging less than a goal a game?

Lets have a look back at some of the best forwards of the last 20 years and see at what ages they had their best seasons (goalkicking)

Average age of Best Goalkicking year = 25.6 years old
Average age of Second Best Goalkicking year = 27.8 years old
Average age of Third Best Goalkicking year = 26.3 years old

I think that fairly conclusively backs up the argument that most of the best goalkickers hit their prime in their mid-late 20's.

Max is still 23 years old and has kicked over 152 goals from 79 games in his career. Just wait to see what he's kicking between 26-29 years of age.

It Absolutely makes zero sense whatsoever to trade him at probably his lowest value point in regards to return.

You really are completely missing the point. He's not arguing St Kilda should trade him because he is not doing well. He is not arguing that St Kilda should trade him at all.

He is arguing that Max should leave because playing for StKilda is holding him back and it is unlikely to get better.

Firstly, how do you know it's unlikely to get better? I know were pretty ordinary at this point in the season but i'm pretty confident its going to get better, because it can't get much worse.

I'm not missing the point at all. I get what he's arguing, but Max has also played in 3 finals games by the age of 23. And we haven't been massively ordinary like North, Hawthorn & West Coast in that time. Yes we've had a poor run of 5 games now, but he also just played in an elimination final 9 months ago. That's nothing in comparison to what those other teams have been going through.

For comparison Nick Larkey is 26 next month and has played in about 15 wins in his entire career for ****s sake. Where's the constant criticism of him or articles telling him he must leave North?

Reckon Jack Riewoldt should've left the tigers in 2016 when he turned 28? He had played in 202 games by that point.

in 2016 Richmond had just won 8 games for the year (finished 13th) and jack kicked his lowest yearly goal tally since he was 21 years old.

over the next 4 years he won 3 flags

Its sensationalist crap.

If we were as bad as North the last 5 years i'd personally be telling Max to leave myself.

To add onto what you are saying - our game style had him averaging the 2nd most goals in the comp per game last season. So it's not like Ross Lyon's game plan is incompatible with Max scoring.

Kane's point about Ross 'wasting' Max's career because of a 4 game stretch is extremely sensationalist and ridiculous.
