didnt freo want 11 for Bo Allan? as is they'd still be ahead of WC for him and might as well take it to the draft.

Not against it for us but it doesn't seem like we'd get 11 from Freo
Yes, good point. The F1 would be for a potential Chad Warner trade next year, they would have a lot to consider.

And the funny thing there is Robinho thought he was signing for Manchester United.

There's certainly some fun parallels.
haha that's correct

I bet Houston cant wait to wear the Bla-blue and white stripes!

Lol.

I tend to value them because it's the only way we will ever climb the ladder.

We have no pull with FA's, we have no pull at the trade table, even with a legendary coach at the helm which every man and their dog on here was claiming was going to change that narrative.

It's the one function in the entire shit show of a system, where we can't get screwed over.

Players can't refuse to come here and we have just as much right to pick from the biggest talent pool (Victoria) as any other Victorian team.

Everyone wants to trade into the draft position of a 2nd week of the finals side for an immediate dopamine hit.
But if we get Houston in the door then we have managed to attract an AA player to join our club. It doesn't matter if the media spin it as a Bradbury, he'd still be on our list.

Forced! Forced to play for North! Oh the humanity. Won't someone think of Dan, who will surely have to console himself with the $1.5m we will pay him, forcibly, to kick a footy around and keep himself fit for the next five years. Forced!
The media making up garbage, how they have fallen over the years, all for clicks.

I think that would be everyone's preference, mostly because it's not all that realistic and wildly favours us
Thanks Doc, give me 15 minutes and I'll work out the full trade complete with swapping future picks and make sure everything adds up of the draft pick calculator.

Do we get a trophy for that?

Or does it automatically mean there's a waterfall of players coming to the club?

No.

I hope to god, Carlton or Collingwood save some of us from the Houston recruitment.

It would be an utter waste of our only assets to make us a chance to contend for a flag.

Futures are inherently less valuable than current picks. A new player making their mark in a rookie year can be transformative while your future sits there doing nothing for 15 months until the season after next begins.
Exactly - the argument that our future 1st equates to pick 2 (or 3) ignores the fact we would have use of an elite player (or draftee) for 12 months; a future first doesn't start at the club until this time next year, by which time (following John Maynard Keynes), we might all be dead

It hasn’t worked for the past 5 years

We keep going to the draft, waiting for another 3-4 years to maybe get a young player to make an impact at afl level whilst all our players get older

Madness. We are desperate and I understand it. We are already stacked with top picks but they have no support, leadership or finals experience.

I know its not a like for like comparison but remember when Man City landed Robinho after they were bought by Sheikh Mansour.
They landed a talented footballer who then changed the image of the club and all of a sudden more quality players started to show interest.

Even when we landed Dal Santo in 2013 and then got Higgins and Waite the year after.

Landing Houston could be that moment that takes us from basket case to a competitor again.
Just need some luck for once
It's a decent point and i think there are similarities to when Bernie Vince and Chris Dawes went to the Dees?

I recall everyone saying the same regarding Gibcus, which would have cost us Sheezel. "No chance we will be as shit as we were last year" was the justification.

Well, Harry Sheezel would be at Richmond.
Very much this.

The lustre is completely gone.

That’s true. But also there’s a value in the draft that can’t be ignored - Collingwood’s F1 for Shultz last year was worth a lot more than their R1 at the time.

Sorry, I'm trying to keep up.

Are you angry that because we're in the running for Daniel and Houston, or are you angry that we have no pull at the trade table?

Madness.

It's an even draft but that doesn't mean every selection in the first 15 is a top 3 pick.

In fact, a lot of people argue the opposite (including me).

It lacks the absolute superstar talent, but has a larger number of players than normal that would be considered top 10 prospects in most drafts and a much larger number of players that would be considered top 20-25 prospects.
It also explains why we can't split our pick 2 for any two picks in the top 10. Nobody is biting. And that's because the top 3 picks are not normal top 3 picks, ie absolute superstar talent as you put it. For all of the fantasy trades that we keep discussing - Pick 2 for 6 and 10 or Pick 2 for 7 and 8 or Pick 2 for 5 and 9 - it ain't happening. Because every club knows that there's no kid inside the top 3 who is worth two other kids inside the top 10.

On the other hand, West Coast was happy to hand over pick 3 for picks 12 and 14, and even though most people consider that a terrible deal, it makes perfect sense for them given their need to split the pick to secure Liam Baker. And from Carlton's perspective, we finally see where the market value is for top 3 picks in this draft. Any kid inside the top 3 is only just worth two kids ranked from 12 onwards. So that's what we have to bear in mind now for our pick 2.

Our F1 is as valuable as Pick 2. Until we prove otherwise.
I really don't think it is. Our existence is gonna come into question if we finish bottom 2 next year. I'm certain that I'm slightly cuckoo but all the safeguards and barriers for shit teams don't really apply to us anymore. We've already used them all up through all our years of being shit. From the start of 2021 onwards: 'oh yeah, they'll be fine, just need some young talent,' 'well, they're young and inconsistent, but give 'em a few years and it'll be fine,' 'ah yeah, well they've gotten continuity into plenty of young guns and haven't got jack shit to show for it but if they stay the course there it'll be all good,' 'ok what the **** is going on,' 'see, what did I tell you, there's a good patch of six or seven games,' and finally 'ah shit, they've given up and on the surface haven't moved the needle despite having more ok-gun players on the park than they did in late 2022.'

I think it's make it to at least 14th, or 15th at absolute absolute worst, or run the risk of removal/replacement by Tassie. And somehow I think fortune will favour us there
