The history channel will run docos in 50 years time on how the hell Mahoney got on an AFL list.
Scene: The lush green oval of Arden Street. Players hustle and bustle, honing their skills under the watchful eye of Alastair Clarkson. The camera zooms in on a young man, Jack Mahoney, standing nervously on the sidelines

Narrator (Sir David Attenborough):
"In the ever-evolving ecosystem of AFL, there exists a moment of profound significance for a select few. A moment when a player is welcomed into the fold, bestowed with the honour of donning the Royal Blue & White stripes of the North Melbourne Football Club. Today, on the hallowed grounds of Arden Street, we witness such a moment."

Jack Mahoney is shown, his eyes wide with anticipation and his hair receding, as he listens intently to Clarko.

Narrator: "Meet Jack Mahoney, whose journey to this point has been fraught with determination and dedication. His lack of skill, his passion and unwavering commitment to being a list clogger has earned him a coveted rookie spot on North Melbourne's AFL list."

The camera captures Mahoney's expression, a mix of excitement and apprehension, as he prepares to take his place among seasoned AFL players with actual skills and fitness.

Narrator: "In the vast tapestry of AFL, Jack Mahoney's story is but a single thread. Yet, it is a story infused with hope and possibility, a testament to the enduring spirit of the human endeavour that anyone, yes anyone, can play AFL"

I actually read that as if SDA was narrating it. Nice work.

I'm going to read it again with Morgan Freeman narrating it and see if I can get Goosebumps..

How does compensation picks work? If CZ does leave at the end of the year will we definitely get one? Whether it's band 1/2/3 whatever.

Restricted FA. We match, force trade if the compo isn’t in the first round compo bracket. But, we should be keeping him. Doing whatever it takes to secure his and LdU signatures.

It depends. Zurhaar is a restricted free agent, meaning North have the right to match any bid, and if he still wishes to leave (hope not), he needs to either seek a trade or go in the Draft.

Any club suffering a 'net loss' of free agents is then entitled to compensation in terms of draft picks, depending on the length and $ value of the contract they are leaving on. To take last year's example, McKay as an unrestricted free agent could go where he liked, and North were compensated (very well) because of the size and length of his contract - on the other hand, had we recruited a free agent (like Hambling) to replace him, the compensation would have been diluted, hence the club looked to delisted free agents like Pink and Nyuon that did not affect the compensation

Gee, imagine he did us dirty and went into the PSD if wet toast have number 1 pick

No more AFL fringe players please. Bring in kids, overagers, reserves players from the King Island league, anyone but burnt out AFL players who we give 5 years based on "potential" and former draft position.

If any guns are dumb enough to take the money and join us. Great. If there's a Hugh Greenwood or Liam Shiels who have glowing reputations for the culture and standards they bring to their club sure, we'll need more like that. But no more Fishers, Tuckers, Stephenses, Stephensons, Corrs etc that'll cruise on big money until we delist them in the 2040s.

Listen to Charlie Comben's postgame. He cares. Sheezel cares. Wardlaw cares. McKercher cares. Josh Goater ( :( ) cares. Big X cares. There is a strong delineation between this group of drafted players in a similar age bracket and the mercenary role players we've brought in to put around them. I don't care what your 2k is, if you hold width or play key defence. If you don't actually want to help this club succeed through shedding blood, sweat and tears please kindly stay away.
