Got to be realistic, unless we tighten our losing margins to the 20s and manage to snag 7-10 wins we aint attracting a B+ player, whom wants more game time, from another club irrespective if we have a heaps of space on the cap, so all we'll attract are C grade talent whom might be a 50/50 chance of improving or being another whipping boy...l would have thought Polec, Pittard, Corr's contract or the picks we gave for CCJ, should be a cautionary tale.

I'd rather prize out Dylan Grimes or players of this ilk and age for the short term gain of shoring up the defence and the long term gain of teaching defence and positioning.
We need to bring in actual leaders. Shiels was a start but he can’t be everywhere (especially when he is barely playing in the ones). If we are blooding 60% of the list at the same time, then we need probably 3 experienced veterans from successful clubs to provide leadership to the three zones.

Agree with you but going after the likes of Josh Battle isn't going to provide us veteran leadership at 25yo and just a tick over 100 games!!
Who are the actual leaders at a other football clubs that are gettable?

Whilst the young core develops the main recruiting strategy would be to get as much premiership experience (specifically players that have a few years left before they are cooked).

They don't cost much, but they are invaluable to the culture and standards.

Our current senior crop just don't get the job done which is a disgrace but it is what it is.

If we can trade in Logue, we can trade in other decent players too.
Indeed. We need to find capable players who are being blocked from their preferred position. Like Logue.

Opportunity is our main selling point.

Really that age should be perfect.

Enough experience to be able to provide leadership and young enough to contribute strongly on field.

Vlastuin or Hardwick for the backline, Libba or Parker for the mids. We desperately need proper leaders in these parts of the ground to keep players accountable.

Give Larkey a chance to be the leader up forward, but for the love of God get Sellers or Maley in to help him out.

Yes but at that point, Persia, Syria, and Egypt had all bottomed out and were in the very early stages of their rebuild.
True, but the Macedonians still did an impressive job of catching their defenders off-guard, especially when they could've just rested on their laurels.

lol I thought you said Libba there for a moment.

Contracted until 2027 and he is already 29, turning 30 in August and I assume he is on big coin.

I am assuming it's a salary dump for the doggies and we pick up a draft pick of theirs as compensation?

Should be able to get him relatively cheaply you would think, salary dump as you suggest.

29 turning 30 is not a problem. We need a seasoned body like his in our mids for a few years.

I can't imagine he would be all that happy right now with a coach that considers him barely best 22.

He would walk into our clubs as a first mid rotation.

McRae is a passive, occasionally soft, low hurt ball pig with zero plain to see leadership traits on massive coin and nearly 30.

He doesn't help AT ALL. He probably makes it worse.
Agree, think Caleb Daniel would be a better acquisition from the dogs. Elite decision making & kicking which we sorely lack.

I'd be getting in the ear of that Phoenix Gothard that GWS drafted - homesick blah blah blah.

Surely we can prise a half decent small forward out of someone.

Sam Wicks should be gettable too.

This x 69 billion, all he'd do is takes games off guys we need to get to 50 asap.

We already have a number of defensively suspect half back users with good skills.

No.

This is (I think) the full list of players we have brought in from other clubs since 2017.

Aidan Corr
Hugh Greenwood
Zac Fisher
Aaron Hall
Billy Hartung
Daniel Howe
Nathan Hrovat
Griffin Logue
Connor Menadue
Alex Morgan
Bigoa Nyuon
Jasper Pittard
Jared Polec
Liam Shiels
Dylan Stephens
Jaidyn Stephenson
Darcy Tucker
Dom Tyson
Josh Walker
Marley Williams
Lachie Young

Not counting this year (because it's too soon, obviously), but they played an average of 11 games per year for us. (Obviously injury played a part in that for some guys, but there's a bunch who played a lot of games in the reserves, too.)

This is what it looks like when you target serviceable role players, or fringe players from good sides, or get the guy who is "stuck behind x, y and z", or "we have to spend the cap somewhere", or someone to be placeholder while the kids develop. Sure, there are a couple of winners in there, but that's a lot of time spent on cycling through players for no real benefit.

Yes but his acquisition would free up Sheez & Mckercher to play in their natural positions. He has an AA jumper playing off half back, doubt our backline would look more shaky with him in it.
