it is though.
Trades aren't made in October.
They're made in the weekends leading up to the season finishing.
Guarantee North would have an idea of who's got a contract for next year at the club and who's going.
If our guys were any good, they'd have teams already trying to poach them over for season 2025.

And you know we aren't doing this because?

Hence why we win the annual delisting premiership, yep 15 wouldn't be difficult to achieve. But the key is where they were taken, ie rookies ok, top ten picks ie not good.
Losing this crop of 25yr old's is frustrating. For different reasons I'd hoped that Curtis Taylor and Tarryn Thomas could have been important players in our current team and for differing reasons they are both out the door (assuming CT gets the chop).

Throw in Steevo and CCJ who are both in the last year of their respective deals and probably on the way out that's four guys who should be part of the solution.

It's frustrating but we have actually unlocked a few positions this year (Xerri, Comben, Archer, Paul Curtis, Bailey Scott) and I think we do have an exciting crop if 19-21 yr olds.

Lol.

All this time Nostra was ChatGPT.
Dear Chat GPT

Prompt: be as antagonistic and negative as possible about 2-3 players and repost every 30 seconds the same comment over and over again all season

Add a Trump-esque nickname to player prompt, for example Bailey Butcher, Senile Shiels or Pathetic Pink

Edit: exclude Finbar Maley and Will Phillips from player targets

Terrific Taylor

I'd be happy with any small forward that has a bit of speed and can provide some well needed defensive pressure.

Been far too long (The days of Thomas & Campbell) since we've had anyone capable of regular run down tackles across half forward.
What’s the bet they re-draft Mahony

Not defensive enough.
Vs the other options we have?

This board drives me insane sometimes 😂

It would be highly unlikely he would pick us anyway, apparently Collingwood are into him. But we gotta go strong at him.

If we don’t have a 4 year deal in front of Owies right now I give up.

Will kick 35 goals this year, 27 years old, potentially gettable and fills the exact need we have.

He is a fair upgrade on RHJ. We gave 4 to Stephens.
This is gonna sound picky, but he's literally a slightly more well rounded Cooper Harvey. No thanks

Agreed. Jy could do the job.
Maybe. He'd want to get a bit of pace back though, which I think is achievable with some continuity and further elapsed time from his concussions. We'll know soon enough.

At any rate, a genuinely zippy small who roves first and marks second is what we need, and Owies ain't that

North get: Tim Taranto, Pick 17
North give: 2025 first round pick, pick 40

Richmond give: Shai Bolton, Tim Taranto
Richmond get: Pick 9, pick 40, 2025 first round pick (NM)

Fremantle give: Pick 9, Pick 17
Fremantle get: Shai Bolton

its not inconceivable that Richmond end up with Pick 1, 5 (Rioli), 9, plus another first round pick for Baker

Thats 4 picks in the first round this year.

They will finish bottom again next year and i think North finish between 12th and 14th, so another top 5 pick.

They dominate the next two drafts. North get their big bodied mid they need to wear the brunt for LDU and Sheezel.

North is a far more attractive place than Richmond at the moment, and Taranto has been sold a lemon by the Tigers.
Sure, let's give away pick 2 for a player who goes at 44.3% kicking efficiency. Now this was last year so he may have improved in 2024 but even then if we were to give up pick 2 for him and he went at, let's be generous and say, 55% kicking efficiency his thread would have more pages than Will Phillips within in a week.

We have so many players who can't hit a target two of which are our captains, Taranto is the last player we need.

There's got to be a good reason that Carlton haven't offered him a new contract as yet. I'm not saying he's not good or wouldn't improve our team but something says buyer beware for me.

The best teams have dedicated valuable draft capital to drafting specialised small forwards - think Pickett and the Dees, Weightman at the Dogs, Watson at Hawthorn etc.

If we can't do that this year, we should try and pry out one of the recently drafted ones at other clubs who are behind other guns.

I've heard we would have taken Gothard if he'd for through to our picks last year. Konstanty at Sydney remains unsigned past this year too.

Oh god. Taranto is a ball butcher. Get a cheaper big body like Parker if possible or Alex Davies from GC.

As for Richards, a 4 year deal from Port is quite an investment. I haven't seen much of him so can't comment if he's any good, he's only played 8 AFL games from what I read. Is he quick and highly skilled?

Timely reminder we rookied a 45yo Farren Ray for the fantastic return of 1 senior game ahead of speculating on Dan Houston.
At the time I actually tried to convince myself it made sense vs taking a young kid who wasn't going to help us win a flag.
Oh how wrong was I. We really had no foresight about regenerating the list underneath that best 22 did we?

Like the idea of going after Konstanty. We certainly have nothing to lose

100%. GWS trading up to take Phoenix scuttled our plans but like you say the best teams spend valuable draft capital on specialised small forwards.

Turning himself into a defensive forward or a defensive mid is the only way i see him staying in the team once (if) we start to improve.

I disagree with that, but it will allow Phillips to develop more, and continue to give strong midfield minutes to Powell/Sheezel/Wardlaw/Pick 2 alongside LDU
